  • The Ordnance quick-firing 25-pounder gun/howitzer served with the British Army and Commonwealth forces from 1939 to the 1960s, and was the main British field gun of World War Two. The gun's main ammunition was high explosive, but smoke, anti-tank and star shells were also used. During set up, the 25pdr was pulled onto the circular firing platform, which transmitted most of the gun's recoil to the ground when it was fired. In addition, the crew could rotate the gun on its wheels on the platform easily, allowing the direction of fire to be changed rapidly. This 25pdr was on show at the Tanks, Trucks and Firepower show in 2023.
