Agreed. Now we have messes like Netrebko singing Turandot at La Scala (they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing that crap). This is exciting- and it’s lacking in opera these days, with very few exceptions.
Two great singers. I just wished a little more warmth between the two. But I'm proud of Marton, our Hungarian diva. Giacomini had an enormous voice. No more such voices!
I first heard this duet in college in a live concert with Domingo and Scotto in Houston and was completely blown away...I cried like a baby. I bought their full recording of the opera the next day. Thank God Marton and Giacomini sang the last part of the duet in the original key without transposition down! For me, the duet never catches fire unless it's in the original key!
@@morisilweindal2848 Corelli usually sang it in the original key. Whenever he sang it transposed, it was for the soprano. But yes, MDM always sang it transposed, except in studio.
As usual you are totally 100% correct. The thrill and excitement you get from voices like this is why opera was more popular at this time. Not the hotness, not the staging, not the silly contemporary diretion. Powerhouse voices that tingled your spine and raised the hair on your arms. Awesome.
Fantastic. I had forgotten how great a singer Marton was at this stage of her career. And Giacomoni, his incredibly brilliant, powerful and inexhaustible top register astounds here.
How truly magnificent-both of them. I only discovered this today. This is the top-the ultimate pinnacle of italian verismo. I feel shaken to the depths of my soul Stefan Korrinz
Grazie
I heard an interview with Marilyn Horne on Clyde Martin's opera program on KCSC in Oklahoma City several years ago. Ms Horne expressed her opinion that Giacomini had one of the most beautiful tenor voices in her experience. I heard Giacomini in a Forza in St. Petersburg Russia in 2001 and he could sing the tenor role and excite the audience.
I was there that fantastic night!!as Everyone can see now thanks to CZcams!!. They were fantastic!! Two greats dramatics voices!! Glorious voices!!where are those Voices now?
Marton is an immense artist and singer..but just after that I heard this duet with Ghena Dimitrova and the same Giacomoni..and I just realized what Dimitrova was..a flame impossible to capture and still totally underrated..this is a great rendition but the best were Mario del Monaco with Renata Tebaldi and Ghena Dimitrova with Giuseppe Giacomini at least for me ..Thank you!!
That is SOOOO thrilling ! Two magnificent singers, perfect for this particular duet, singing their heart out ! Giacomini possessed a beautiful, very baritonal voice. Perhaps not ideal for the rest of the opera, which pictures Andrea as a youthful, sensitive man : think of Carreras, who sang (and recorded) the role at the very limit of his vocal power, but so moving and attractive, and of course of Corelli, the epitome of vocal sex-appeal. As for Eva Marton, she is here at her very best, and that is saying a lot.
I think someone here is not a fan Of. Giuseppe. Giacomini, well, too Bad for you!!. I saw him so many Times at the. Met in. New. York City, which is a much bigger theater Than the. S. For opera,I went to S. For and is not half of the big Met. Let me tell you Mr. Giacomini Sounds really big!!and always he Delivered!!a powerful dramatic Tenor with a great timber!!
well maybe it missed some overtone for a clean-cut B-natural but at least he gave it a try in the original key... which you do not find on youtube that easily... the voice was apparently too big to be drowned -for better or for worse- cuz then we wouldn't hear it, would we? Petty to pick on that isn't it? After such a generous live performance...
Both of these artists sing VERY well in this clip. Marton is hardly wobbling here! Her vibrato was always a little thick, but in her prime in the opera house it was stunning. Giacomini was so underrated (because of the big three). You know, at this moment you would not hear anything close to this at the MET. It's just the truth. Jonas Kauffman is the closest we have and I love hearing him, but most of the tenors now are either "buzz-saw" tenors or hoarse pushers. Sad!

Giacomini, un grande tenore !
Magnificent Giuseppe Giacomini!! Heaven will be more pefect with him in it...RIP Maestro.
To think the critics at the NY Times panned the entire Richard Tucker Gala saying that everyone sang too loudly. I'll take this over anything now.
Totally agree with you. No one sings like this now.
What do critics know? They’re just frustrated singer want a be’s.
seriously? OMG nowadays so many rely on hidden microphones.
Agreed. Now we have messes like Netrebko singing Turandot at La Scala (they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing that crap).

I was fortunate to see Eva Marton as Elextra at Covent Garden about 1990 and she was stunning right to the last bars!!
I LOVE EVA!!!!! She is my favourite soprano- amazing power and beauty.
Splendido Giaccomini!
both artists at their best.

Such a powerful pair of dramatic-spinto voices! Fabulous!
His voice is simply marvelous!
Fantastic. I had forgotten how great a singer Marton was at this stage of her career. And Giacomoni, his incredibly brilliant, powerful and inexhaustible top register astounds here.
You are absolutely right. The passion in their acting enhances the power of their voices. That last note should live eternal in opera.
How truly magnificent-both of them. I only discovered this today. This is the top-the ultimate pinnacle of italian verismo. I feel shaken to the depths of my soul
Stefan Korrinz
Bravo grandissimo maestro!!!!
BRAVI!!!!!!
meravigliosi stupendi!
Magnificent! They deserved a recording of Chenier.....

would love to hear voices like this in person. maybe someday.
Unlikely these days.
what a duet
EXTRAORDINARIO DÚO, EVA MARTON YGIUSEPPE GIACOMINI.
Wow! Prolly my favorite ending to any opera, what a way to go out! Bravi!
Both were stars! I saw them in Barcelona many times !❤
DIVINE!!!

I heard Giacomini in a Forza in St. Petersburg Russia in 2001 and he could sing the tenor role and excite the audience.
He did have a wonderful voice but lost it. In his prime, his ping was a hairsbreadth from Pavarotti's, only lighter and fresher.
Dueto fantástico. Fantastic opera duet.
Tre grandi artisti.
I was there that fantastic night!!as
Everyone can see now thanks to
CZcams!!. They were fantastic!!
Two greats dramatics voices!!
Glorious voices!!where are those
Voices now?
Fabulous pair...they ace it!
Giacomini when on form was legendary
❤😂 both missed sooo much😢❤
Gosh, that was terrific real verismo singing. Loved it.
"The best" is always difficult to define, but Corelli and Tebaldi certainly qualify...
Two great voices!!!
Just Fabulous!!!

Immensi ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yet another glorious addition great opera duets on utube. Many thanks
Outstanding!!
Both are! Bravi!!!
Giacomini's voice so strong.
BRAVO!!! MERCI.
Great voices .....
wow!
i heard Giacomini back in the 70s at the Met; Tosca I believe. He was a revelation. Ping very close to Pavarotti.
A magnificent blend of two heavy duty, diesel-powered voices!
Stupendi!!!
Perfetto!
Giacomini was right up there with the best and Martin excellent. They are both not spring chickens here, but they sound gorgeous!!!
They were only in their 40s. Marton was born in 1943 and Giacomini in 1940. This is 1988.
giacomini arguably peaked vocally later in his years
grande Giacomini, Marton strepitosa, grande direzione di Guadagno
ÉVA MARTON! THE BEST!!
GÖTTLICH!!! Unglaublich!!! Ich liebe es!!!!
Sublime!!
Martons 83 Boston Turandots shockingly great.
Bravooooooooo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He has some voice.. I would agree.
Super
Bravo Giacomini; brava Marton. That is all I have to say.
💥💥💥COOL
Giacomini at his very best. Marton loud.
Thanks for posting this one. I have been searching this for many years.
Marton is fine voice here - sung in the correct key! Gaudagno is always so comical to watch - tiny little man with his arms flying around wildly!
Nothing wrong with the final notes. Take into account the accoustics etc.
Very expressive and dramatic,,,,,,as should be.....JRT
Bendita sea su memoria
MARTON is GREAT !!!!!!!
Bravo Giacomini! Brava Marton!
Uno dei giganti del novecento
Bellissimo
❤❤

Wow! That conductor was on fire! Watch him at the final bars...he's possesed!
Very much unlikely Levine, the sonnambulist, conducting, half asleep.
Levine was dreaming of prepubescent boys
❤😂Top Loud in NY😮😅
so beautiful, even with Giacomini a little flat on the 3 high notes of the duet.
I love Marton, but she was never warm. Giacomini was a revelation back in the day. He still has a lot of stuff here.
Marton - La Prima Donna Assoluta Del Mondo Nel Universo!!!!
BRAVO GIACOMINI
Exellent !!! what year was this recorded please?
Both of these artists sing VERY well in this clip. Marton is hardly wobbling here! Her vibrato was always a little thick, but in her prime in the opera house it was stunning. When I heard Kaufmann singing this opera, he could hardly be heard at all. Only last C was OK from all that performance... Very disappointing
Great singing and interpretation. A pity Mr Giacomini did not completely reach his last high notes but this is of minor importance ....
Eccellente Giacomini.. La signora Marton buona
