I am proud to say that as an American Chinese who can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English fluently, and have studied Latin, French and Japanese, my infatuation with ACCURATE pronunciations with any language I study has prevented me from these funny linguistic jokes and embarrassments. I was in a mall in Los Angeles, and I pronounced L’Oreal correctly (Royal Gold literally), and the salesman, himself a French, asked me if I have studied French before because he thought my French pronunciations perfect. My high school French teacher already told me to tutor first year students French pronunciations when I was a second year student. So yes, learn the phonics and get the diphthongs and digraphs and all the rules right. 🥰

Too bad people think that’s being pretentious or by the book. My parents and wife think that it’s ok to mispronounce words or have a heavy accent, yet if my tone is off a bit in manadarin, I’m asked to never speak it again. What the heck?

AM is pronounced in French as the “ong” sound, as in “thong”. H is silent in French, just like in Spanish. So dropping the H and pronouncing AM wrong in the French way, and he sounds like saying “omelette”. Then he adds H to “Othello” making it Hot Hello. He should have pronounced Hamlet the English way, not the French way. It’s funny to see the adjective “cheesy” being used with its double entendres.

My Chinese husband is an endless supply of grammatical error jokes. We were in Las Vegas and he called Treasure Island “Trash Island”. The long and short vowel sounds are often confused just like your “Big Cock” video 🤣. Then he can’t pronounce “th” properly and “think” becomes “sink” and “thing” becomes “sing”. He scolds my kids for eating too much junk food, but instead call it “garage food” because he doesn’t know it’s not called “garbage food” but “junk food”, and confuses “garbage” with “garage”. Just like the French folks in your skits, my husband has an endless supply of grammatical and pronunciation mistakes. You might consider these for future topics in your skits. 🤣
