I always enjoy your vids and daily look to see if you have posted. The Landlord issue one viewer has, reminded me of when I use to rent.
The most important thing to do when praying about situations in which your dealing with being at the mercy of someone else when it comes to a roof over your head, is not just sit and pray, but consider making a list of ways to get out of renting.
What broke me free from renting is my hubby was living on family property before we married and that was out in a rural area, which I LOVE. The biggest mistake we made at first was NOT getting a piece broke off faster because of living near a rather difficult sibling he has. BUT, we were able, by Gods merciful love and grace FINALLY got a piece cut off and BUILT our home, over time. Was the BEST decision we made. It is ours. But, it still gets a bit rough on hard repairs now we are much older, but, you are the owner, we planned hard on our finances even at below poverty level, and God, because we asked Him for wisdom, and He gave it, have never looked back on being imprisoned with renting.
Prayer is important, but, sometimes, God wants to see fruit from us on writing down ideas to get out of the situation by possibly using family and other resources to get out of these situations. Asking for wisdom, and lead us to possibly the person who may have an empty home to sell on land contract, which them means, you can grow food.
Pray, talk to folks who have land you could invest in, build on, (never ever build until you have a deed in your hand, don't ask me why I know this, LOL). Don't ever sit and let the situation eat away at you. Plan to GET OUT, save up money, ask brethren if you have a church for info on a possible place to buy in which the payments would match your monthly rent. Ask God to send you folks who know how to inspect and look for bad issues before you buy.
I have sat in that persons shoes, and it gets gut wrenching, especially repairs the landlord won't fix. and then, trying to find another place to be able to afford.
Use all the resources around you, and have a notebook to also write down thoughts on this matter, ideas etc. A prayer journal for the situation is great to look back on. Once you trade the stress of the situation into, being fired up in various ways and options to get out, you will see how God taught you great wisdom through the whole process, and you will be able to help the next person in the situation. This is why I spoke up, :)
Prayer is indeed important, but also, make sure you go and investigate your options that especially family close by will be willing to help with. Someone may have a basement you could temporarily live in, save up money to go beyond what you thought.
Somewhere, God has a place waiting. It will come.

I'm a young Mennonite mom from Ohio and I love your channel so much! I so appreciate how you share from your heart and let your love for Christ shine! Your thoughts on child training are spot on too and I couldn't help but shout yes while I was watching 😉. We've been blessed with a little boy of our own and I know I've missed the mark many times however from the time he was born my husband and I have tried to raise him with this exact principle and I just want to encourage you to keep it up! Consistency is key just like you said and now that he's going to school it's been a blessing to receive notes and calls from teachers and friends about this very thing. It's not easy but now I feel like its paying off. He's not perfect of course but neither are we! A thought that made this click for me before I was even pregnant is this: In today's society people spend so much time and money to train a dog or pet to do all sorts of things on command yet we expect our children (God given gifts who are much more precious) to just "get it" without spending time to train them and then wonder why we have to raise our voices in order to get their attention, much less listen. I'm praying God blesses you and your family in a special way. Keep it up!!

You are blessed that you can still trust the Mennonite private schools enough to send your kids there. Unfortunately, a lot of other Christians are choosing to homeschool because the secular world has had such a negative influence in even the Christian private schools.

I’ve been a subscriber for a couple of years now. Xander was a toddler. Still love your videos. I also just watched a video. I’m not sure how old or new it was but you and hubby was explaining your faith. I love your values. I grew up Baptist although I’ve fallen away from the church. I especially love the little blessings I receive from your videos. I have prayed more in the last couple of weeks since I have kinda been going through some older videos. Some I’ve already seen, some not. I had missed them. I kinda thought that maybe you had stopped making them. I don’t know how but I wasn’t getting them like I once did. Anyway, I know this is a long one but I just wanted you to know how blessed I feel just watching your videos. Thank you and congratulations on your pregnancy. Especially since you know it’s a girl. Hugs to Xander!

My mum always said "use your words" and waited - we were often removed from the situation for "time out" which I still think should be viewed a positive - till we'd calmed down enough to talk about what was wrong. My parents were a little inconsistent with discipline so I totally agree with the warning and then a punishment. ❤❤❤ completely agree with respecting our little humans - I was also never called a child (to my face), it was always small human or little person - and that you still need to use age appropriate language and guide them through life.

I love your passion in the continuum of life processes and Xander will excel because of it. Because you have taken the time to look after you, and work towards optimal health we have seen you blossom into fulfilling each of your roles. You can walk with your head up, back straight and shoulders back in grace and dignity as a leader to those who follow, encourager to those alongside of you with respect to those who lead. In the fullness of time good things come to those who wait and trust in the Lord. Be blessed and know God sees the desire of our hearts and witnesses the purity of our spirit. Most of the music we listen to comes from my daughters. They don't tend to like pop, to which I'm grateful! Lol. We'll check out "Music Bed".
Raising kids is difficult, and every child is different, you are absolutely correct. I'm in my fifties and I still don't have the answers, either. One of my daughters is very intelligent and logical, so she has a need to have things reasoned and explained. On the other hand, another of my daughters is all emotions and needs to feel things. Discipline is always a challenge.
We are constantly looking for family friendly, Christian content. I think we need to be careful with labels like "false Christians". We can disagree with doctrine, but still respect the person!

I agree 100% with your answer to the tantrums, but Ido have one slight addition. (As was recently suggested by Becky over at A Place To Nest) you can be your child's friend AS LONG AS you are their parent FIRST. It might be said that you can be friend-like with your child(ren.) For instance, they have friends that they go play child-like things with. We can do silly things with them and, more importantly, we need to keep the lines of communication open. I think this happens when everyone gets older. I don't mean to say that you will pal around with them as a friend would, but that you can have times that will be like a friend. If that makes sense.🙄
I like these styles of videos a lot. I always get excited to see your video up😊.
Some place warm? Not here in Michigan where it's snowing as I type. 😐 I love Michigan. It's not my home state (Illinois is) but I am getting older (not too old) [44] but each year winter hits it gets worse and worse. I have an autoimmune disease that the Dr is still trying to help pinpoint, and winter is no longer my friend. I used to love winter! So, some place warm sounds fantastic. I am super glad that you and Nolan get to go- and you will have (had) no worries.😊 How does Xander do without you?

Sorry so late in replying. Just got back from vacation with a suntan to prove it was warm! (: And yes, I agree with you completely. I want to be my son's friend in a way that we have fun together, he loves playing with me, we can be goofy if we want, but always parent first. I completely agree with you. The respect has to stay there and if they know that they must obey, that is where the parent side comes in, IMO.

If only more parents had your philosophy on child rearing!
I raised my son with rules, expectations and consequences.
He grew up to be a responsible, confident and very loving man, who is now 41, by the way!
A lot of children and teens today are hard to even be around because they are unruly, rude and disrespectful. Not all, mind you, but a large part.
    God Bless🙏

    • @theMennoniteMom
      @theMennoniteMom  Před 4 lety

Yes, I agree with you. It seems so many children/teens have bad teaching and were just left to their own. I'm sure your son is a pleasure to be around! (:

Yes and Amen to not being a childs friend. My husband and I were adamant about that. Now our son is 29 with his own 4 children and we often hear him say, "I am not your friend, I am your father". Oh the satisfaction!

no it isn't although, if a family struggles financially, they aren't required to pay... so I guess maybe in a sense it could be free.
