Lyrics: Secrets of The American Gods
    Great Lord, your love's divine
    I spread your grace
    I share your light
Four shores of Hell were burning
    In purgatory's smell
When a preacher with a crucifix
    Brought mayhem and despair
So, here comes a new god, be brave
A gospel illusion, the breeding of sin, I carry light
I share this grace, I share our pain
Somehow we're not one yet somehow we're the same
    Now strong in blue
It shall begin, soon forgotten with thе ring
    Hail, nice to meet you
    Another human stranger
I'm so glad you havе made it
    Somehow you've made it
    Welcome to the promised land
There are no sights, there are no miracles
    (Shall spare no names)
You should not reveal (For the American Gods)
The secrets of the American Gods
Just hold to infinity (No one cares for names)
You can't escape, better hide now
The secrets of the American Gods
    So when I look upon
    These fields of misery
Who would not sacrifice a son?
    My son is now gone
We share our tricks, we share our oaths
    Discarded plebs, distorted use
    It's ripping blood beats
    It's what this land needs
Life's creeping back at you, back at you
    Sadly to say, but
Hope there is no guiding spot
    So bright, you're blazing starlight
And we are watching you, watching you
Stranger in a new born land
Of formless Gods and warlock miracles
    (All these fields of crows)
You should not reveal (From the American Gods)
The secrets of the American Gods
Just hold to infinity (No one cares for names)
You better bow down, praise the new lords
The secrets of the American Gods
    Take a look at yourself
    All behold, here's another trick
But now a line of [?] vain glory
It is time to close your eyes, I shall live
All sticks of the stem shall
    Resurrect these moments gone
    Contemplate desire
    An eternal flame's burning down
Don't be scared, follow the plan
All lives can stream like birds singing
    Behold your Father of violence
    The one-eyed god is sad
    I thought you'd know that
The greatest liar is telling you the total truth
    I thought you'd know that
    I'm your master
    Stranger in an unknown land
Of roaring silence dead and miracles
    (Lie in fields, bloody roots)
I will now reveal (For the American Gods)
The secrets of the American Gods
Just hold to infinity (No one cares for names)
The moment is right, you should cry out
The secrets of the American Gods
    The American Gods
    Yes, we travel all alone
A new play, a new scene
    Ripping blood seals the deal
When we enter a new world
    Stranded we're wandering
    Time, time means nothing
    To the American Gods
No more sorrows, praise the American Gods
You are burning, yes, you are burning
Or you must conquer your fear
    You better save yourself
But now obey the American Gods
    You better save yourself

I’ve listened to this song at least 60xs no joke. No matter how many times I hear this I get chills at the last chorus around 5:20 of the song

I haven't read the lyrics of the song, but I believe that the song refers to the book American Gods by Neil Gaiman. If you love reading, you should check that out. It is an exceptional book.

Blind Guardian has always stood above many bands and his voice i agree is one of the best ever...i personally dont mind the synth thing going but i always prefer guitar heavy and drum heavy metal with just an epic power metal voice!

Epitome of what power metal is all about and why it can be great!...Blind Guardian! Hansi is the definite Bard of power metal! his vocals sets standards that only he meets with each release.
and let's not overlook the amazing talent of the rest of the band.... J.R.R Tolkien would have totally been a fan of these guys.

Hansi vocals are like a vintage Porto wine, the older it is the better it tastes. And that solo by André... fantastic.
I agree what you say about Power Metal, most bands followers, Blind Guardian always followed their own path.
As for the amrican gods... well, I guess that by American Gods they mean gods from the american continent and not from USA, gods of the Incas, Mayans, Aztecs, among others.

I'm totally with you with regards to what you said about the development of Power Metal. Like a lot of these bands, but even with those I like it kinda starts to sound stale after a while because they are all moving in the same direction. But to me there's also another aspect to it. Because I have been listening to that genre for so long, I basically know all the classics and instinctively, I measure new outputs by old and new bands alike against those old classics. And, no offense to any of those bands, but not even the big ones like Sabaton or Powerwolf have ever written anything that measures up favorabily against Keeper II or Somewhere Far Beyond. I kinda have the same problem with Thrash Metal, while with other genres that I couldn't get into (especially Death and Black Metal) back then, I basically don't know the classics so I have no points of comparison, so I can enjoy new albums on their own merit. So maybe we (or at least I) are just a little bit too biased by our experience

I can't disagree about the Power Metal scenario right now. I, for example, love Death Metal, and never forgot Power Metal, I still listen to the old stuff from this sub-genre, 1st 3 albums from Edguy and Hammerfall, Manowar, and Better than Raw from Helloween. And I totally agree with you when it comes to the impact that Blind Guardian releases have these days, I can't find something that I really enjoy like any classic from Power Metal. This song is something else, which is what Blind Guardian always is.
Now about the concert from Blind Guardian, man, I've been in Metallica's, Iron Maiden's, Helloween's, Manowar, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy and many more, and I can say like, they were able to find me the best 2 concerts that I've been in my life, these guys are made differently for live shows, they are something when in Live. I can't see myself not getting back to them as a show of them whenever I have the chance again.

Love this song - love this band. I know they are considered Power Metal, but to me they actually defy categorization in a genre (unless you want to say they are their own genre). What other metal group would put out an orchestral album with absolutely no metal instruments (except Hansi's vocals)?
Also - American Gods? Why not? After all, we already claimed the name of the entire hemisphere as being ours alone! (LOL)

Although I think we don't have to speak of Power Metal when talking about Blind Guardian. They don't consider themselves that (although I know where you're coming from).
American Gods is a book by Neil Gaiman. There's also a TV series. I haven't read or watched, but that's what the song is about at any rate...

I like the new track, but I wish the guitars were a bit more forward. The past few albums have had kind of limp-sounding guitars. I love that heavy melodious sound they had during their Twilight Hall through Opera run.

Damn right about the current condition of power metal. That's precisely how I feel about most modern power metal bands. The music often doesn't make me feel anything but annoyed by yet another keyboard line or synthesized orchestral hit. Good ideas, good intentions, good musicians but no spirit.

The correct word you are looking is stagnated. Power metal estagnated. And I'm like you, I grew up with heavy/power metal, now I only listen to death and black. The new generation of black metal is so creative that I basically don't have the time or desire to listen to anything else. Exception made to Rage and Grave Digger. :) And if you can listen to Saxon's new album, they still kicking asses. :)

To be honest sabaton's latest album could easily be the best album of many other power metal bands but because it is sabaton you expect much more than that.

    • @GlobalTossPot
      @GlobalTossPot Před 2 lety

I disagree. Sabaton is probably one of the most repetitive bands out there and it’s the only reason why people go crazy for them. The last 3 albums are incredibly boring with recycled riffs and choruses. From a musicians viewpoint; majority of the songs are structured exactly the same way which just gets old after the second song. The latest album was just terrible. Sabaton is a sell out. I mean they put their name on just about anything that can make them money. It’s not surprise as they are signed with Nuclear Blast; the label that’s known for Influencing sell outs. I’d rather listen to someone clack rocks together than the majority of their albums

    • @xarisvoit9809
      @xarisvoit9809 Před 2 lety

@@GlobalTossPot the fact they are repetitive doesnt make them worse but less exciting. The songs have the same quality but lack inovation. And thats exactly why i said that this record is still any other bands top work. But speaking about sabaton the critisism shouldnt be to make better music. The music is already good. They just need to bring new elements into it

  • @carlosluismendez7392
    @carlosluismendez7392 Před 2 lety

I have to disagree. I think there are bands doing much better stuff than them right now. There's not energy in the music and that's a sin if you are doing power metal.
Hansi still has a lot of power in that voice but he has lost the aggression and ferocity. He can't carry a fast tune like he used to. This kind of metal needs energy, melodies, heavy riffs and good hooks to be good power metal. The performance on the drums in the three tunes is very bland. The three tunes are forgettable.

  • @GlobalTossPot
    @GlobalTossPot Před 2 lety

The good ole Power metal is dead. The problem is power metal bands are beyond repetitive so you have bands that sound like one another or don’t venture into something different and creative. People can hate me but Sabaton is probably the worst of the genre. They’re beyond repetitive; recycled riffs and choruses in every album. Majority of songs are structured in the exact same way. Sabaton are just sell outs. They stick with their boring formula because commercially it sells just like all the garbage merch they put out.

    • @Simpaiii
      @Simpaiii Před 2 lety

"People can hate me but Sabaton is probably the worst of the genre." wait, is that a hot take on the internet? Because IRL, no matter what festival, bar or whatever I visit, Sabaton is the biggest laughing stock.
