i am a filipino kali arnis teacher and teaching for 30 yrs..i clearly understand what you are saying and i like the way you teach..its simple, direct and realistic...keep it up...
Awesome. Direct, realistic. No playing about with the hands with unrealistic techniques that give students a false sense of confidence that could cost them their lives! These concepts should be applied to any system that you practice.
I'm IMPRESSED! You are doing the exact right thing by deflecting the blade AWAY from the body and going after the person holding the knife! This is much safer, and once you take out the person holding the knife, there will no longer be a threat! Very smart!
FMA practitioner on a random video run, but this has made me really think about the weird idiosyncrasies that crept in on my form after such a long absence. Excellent video, I'll make sure to take it to heart when I'm training.

I think there is a big issue particularly on internet forums and such that everyone thinks that one style or system is superior to another. Everyone seems to be very protective of their style or system and i think the real truth comes down to the way the individual applies his or her knowledge. I can tell you from experience that ALL martial arts have valid principals. I am currently studying Wing Chun and i find it's principals to be very effective and very applicable in live situations.
i was on a seminar from an phillipino grandmaster and i ask him what i could do against a knife attack and he answerd: "if you can, RUN!" when there is an amateur with a knife maybe you can stop him with this stuff but still this is dangerous. And when you see that your opoonent knows how to use a knife you have no chance!
Having spent 5 years at running tiger kenpo, bjj had the chance in mpls to see a demo work shop witht this man.he is the real deal.Awesome work shop and hellva nice guy.Cheers..
@Aikiarts101 ye man i studied Aikido too, back in Glasgow, Scotland for a while. Still remember a lot of the throws and wrist locks. Your chosen style is your choice never let anyone diss you for it. I'm learning and teaching wing chun in China now but I still appreciate other arts. Stick at it cos you will regret it later. I studied karate when I was young but gave up...I regretted it and went back to it when I was 22 along with lau gar kung fu later followed by wing chun.
Wing Tsun and Escrima are effectively a joint organisation (although there are definitely separate escrima organisations) the organisation is called AUWETO (Australian Wing Tsun and Escrima Organisation) If you are in America or whatever sub out Australian for your country. Escrima is taught at the higher student levels i think student level 8+ in Wing tsun, and the quality of the teaching of escrima in my opinion tends to vary in wing tsun depending on the instructor's knowledge of it.
Schmerz ist der beste Lehrer! Der zweitbeste bin ich. E.Boztepe (pain teaches best, after that comes me) It sound arrogant, but he is not only a good practicioner -he is a great tutor as well.
@guitarfan1979 yep - we did a rather eye opening demo using markers as knives. Even with my training I would be dead most of the time from attacks. Run, run for your life. Knifes, guns, technology will trump any martial arts
the noises he is making is simply blowing out air(breathing) something boxers and kickboxers do alot, if u dont do this you would be out of breath in 2 secs, and if u meet more than 1 apponent you dont want to be out of breath after the first one goes down.
lol the the sound effects are awesome, lol redtortise say "pfoooovv***pfooov, but this guy is well rounded form wing chun to street fighting, it is obvious that a person should learn and combine many arts instead of just using one, cause each martial art has its weekness and strength
@trollbl damn right...after watching thousand videos and reading thousand comments I conclude that unless you have a gun the best knife defense is to run and hide
@PuddingblendeR Please note that I see Emin to be one of the best martial artists, but all of us with experience know that there is always something we miss, and more advice is best.
good stuff because he stresses to STAY AWAY FROM THE KNIFE! 1 cut most likely will not kill you instantly but you could veary easily bleed out before help comes. Stay away from the knife at all costs. Run away 1st. Then if you cant run, fight and break his legs, arms, hands whatever. BUT Stay away from the knife
No worries :) The one thing I always tell my students is to never take anyones teaching as a final decision. Take from all, use from all, always be a student. In my practice and teaching combat, we usually go for an immediate grab to the base of the weapon as we strike towards the throat or vital areas, doing that you control the pull of the attacker and you immediately disarm. If you do not disarm, the attacker might get back up and get you from the back. Take care and keep an open mind.
and he will cut you up , you didnt watch closely what Sifu Boztepe was showing in this video , if you try to disarm or grab the weapon , it only takes the attacker to pull the weapon back and change the angle and your are already cut first time , you think that after few cuts you will be alright ha ha funny dude
It works perfectly.. only if you train hard some months/years with a guy who knows how to use a knife. If not forget and run away if you can or buy a gun....
The best protection against a person wielding a knife is an knife or a blunt object to create distance. A gun would be better but you could risk injuring innocent people around you. Most attackers will not attack you like you see in these demonstration videos. You also dont know anything about you attacker(fighting skills, on drugs etc...) the best training tool for knife drills is a marker. Reason being, you can see the the marks that could otherwise be deadly cuts without getting hurt.
It's Wing Tsun just look in the background you will see the yellow shield with the two butterflyknifes on which is written AWTO (Adon't know :) Wing Tsun Oranisation) probably just to clear things up If i'm wrong I'm sorry ;)
@TheThesamuray yeah i do aikido as well and thats what i thought your suppost to get on the outside of the knife/attack thats how to do aikido techniques properly the attacker was able to hit him because he was on the inside im tought to go on the outside away from the other hand.
AS long as that attacker does that slow motion single attack, the other dude can go real fast and non-stop. Not exactly symmetric demonstration. Granted, the big guy's tactics may not change, but in reality, he wouldn't look so good if the other guy was moving at similar speed and intent. But then we wouldn't be in Hollywood.

realistic instructions...EWming also wins with both with the knive and with the stick, meaning that its more important the man behind the weapon than the weapon itself
@JayDeLamar I've used Wing Chun in many live situations and i've gotta say i have found it to be very effective but it's fair to say that not everyone reacts the same way in a live street situation. I think the biggest mistake people make in the martial arts is thinking in terms of 'self defence' too often. I have many years of front line security behind me and so too does my instructor and this certainly helps when understanding how to apply the principals. But yeah ur right he's mean!
An umbrella doesnt have the same mass as a fighting stick, and wouldn't deliver bone breaking power. You would be better off using the pointed end of the umbrella to jab at their face, eyes.
@nightfox2282 I tried other arts as well TKD for about 2 weeks maybe a bit longer left it then i got a six day course in karate and thats where it started ive only been martial arts since 2010 so still pretty new to the martial arts industry.

A lot of what he says makes sense, targeted more for real world, disarming is quite complex and I don't think someone who trains 2-3 days a week for 2 hrs a lesson would be able to do it if we are talking in a stress situation, say at night time when you have had maybe 1 beer or two.
