Great job, I think the music goes well with it and the small amount of sounds from the actual train itself is perfect. This is a Epic line and a ride of a lifetime. For anyone who has never been on it, do so. And I agree with the open car, the views are spectacular and the people are amazing. But if your eyes are sensative bring some sort of eye wash you will get soot in your eyes at times.
from an aussie train driver who also is interested in them, your video is mad...pity the technology we have now wasnt available when you filmed it, durango and silverton is on my 'to do' list for if ever i visit the USA
Great video! Specailly liked the pacing shots. Lot of work in editing! I have some videos of the trip too, but are much simpler, taken with a digital camera while I was also using it to shoot stills.
For anyone considering this trip be sure to ride in a open car. In the closed cars passengers(for the most part) tend to stay to themselves. In the open cars folks tend to be more social and tends to add to the experience. And the views far better. Be sure to have bottles of water handy to clean cinders from eyes. it always happens! Still worth it!!
I'm planning on making a full DVD on this railroad and will have about 3 days to do it, hopefully that will be enough to get about a half-hour's worth of material? You think it can be done?
One of my first memories was riding this train on my father's lap--must have been '68 or '69. Thanks for bringing back the memory and the emotion.
Wonderful movie, wonderful landscape, wonderful music, dream train, unfortunatly so far from France...
The most spectacular train ride ever. I will never forget it.
Rode this last summer...prettiest stretch of mountain valley I've ever seen.
Very well captured look at a wonderful railroad. Enya's "Storms in Africa" really completes it!!
great stuff it takes us back to the Rockies big time..

Don't mean to be necro-posting, but this was a very well-organized video and produced video. I love Enya's "Storms in Africa!!"

Awesome video! I went to the railroad in May 2012, and I got to go in the cab of #476 (even though it was stored at the museum).
Yes, and right now it's been restored already!
Very, very nice!!! Thank you. Thumbs up.
I rode this train back when it was still a bid job for the Denver and Rio Grande. (1971 and 73)
Personally, I think the sound track helps make this video so special.
Just rode it last week really cool
I love the 476, she is my personal favorite.
I've ridden this train twice... once in the summer , and once just after the new fallen snow in March... If you have the choice - see it with snow...
Very interesting video.Good Job on the footage.
Recommend a ride any day. in fact put it on your bucket list. Music make's it even better. as I am a fan of both,

The music wasn't necessary
I will say, definitely the most fun you'll have on a steam-driven train in one day!

it's alos hard to imagine that in 1968 that they were still having regular freight movement on this line as well as Chama line
Still one of the Best
that would be great in HD
ive ridden it
i would never that the buss back. The train is y i have been to Durango 5 times
@dajara521 cracked frame long ago, she also needs new wheels and tires, a boiler retube, and smoke box repairs. But I want her back in steam too.

Breaking News: 476 & 493 both returned to steam altogether!

Bring 476 back to life one day!
It's being repaired now and will soon come back.
Train Lover That's what I heard
no way man, lol. If I go there to ride the train, I ride the train. I can ride a bus anywhere.
Over how many days would you say did you film this?

#476 is being rebuilt and plans to return to service this coming February 2018

I don't like the dubbed music
Personally, I think the sound track helps make this video so special.
