  • Caught some uncommon and interesting power at Brighton Park Crossing in Chicago the other day, in a gap of sunny days between snowstorms we've had. Older, former Burlington Northern geeps, a CSX grainer, and a CN train with one of the ex-IC/LMS/Conrail units all showed up in a period of just over an hour!
    Train descriptions below:
    Train 1:
The tail end of an unremarkable Norfolk Southern stack train- destined for UP's Global I near downtown- clears the CN/IC diamonds.
    Train 2:
In a 1990s-esque scene, two "whiteface" Burlington Northern geeps pass a stopped CSX grain train and head north through Brighton Park, destined for the former Santa Fe Corwith Yard with a very (very!) short intermodal transfer from CSX's 59th Street Yard- just three well cars, only one of which is double-stacked. A flag hangs on the rear car. The lead unit, BNSF 3112, is a GP50, built new for BN, and the second unit, #2920, is a rebuilt variant of the already-rare GP39-2, termed by BNSF a GP39-3R.
    Train 3:
CN 2458, a former Illinois Central C40-8W (ex-LMS, née Conrail) and quite dirty CN SD70M-2 #8894 lead a manifest from Glenn Yard east over the Joliet Sub.
    Train 4:
A Midway-bound Orange Line 'L' train passes over the crossing on the CTA flyover.
    Train 5:
A few photos (my video camera ran out of battery) of the CSX grainer that had been waiting to head north on the B&OCT (for interchange with UP at Proviso Yard). CSXT 452 (AC4400) and 4852 (SD70ACe) are the power. Sorry that these shots are fuzzy; converting/compressing the video file reduces their quality...
    ~Thanks for watching!~
