【VY1V4】"Lilium" (Elfen Lied)【Test Vocaloid Cover】

For those who don't know it, this song is the opening theme of the anime Elfen Lied, and was made to match a classical style of music, being sung in Latin and originally performed by professional opera singer Kumiko Noma. I was a fan of this anime by the time I was discovering Vocaloid around 2016, and I always thought it would somehow match VY1. It was a popular song amongst the early Vocaloid community, so you can find lots of other covers, and almost none of them use an operatic style like the original does.
So this is just a fun test to please that old wish I had years ago. Of course it's not made to match the original at all, I might play with VY1V4 to sound more or less dramatic, but the truth is she was not designed to sing opera, nor in Latin. The original version is unique in it's own way and totally worth listening to. Kumiko Noma's voice has a charm that no Vocaloid can replicate, it's so soothing that it sounds like it's directly calming your anxiety xD On the other hand, this is neither my best nor my most serious/ambitious work, I'm literally forcing a japanese voicebank to sing in Latin and in a genre it's not even supposed to be singing: Again, it's just a fun experiment. That's why I didn't upload it to Soundcloud.
And no, this isn't the first time I cover a non-vocaloid song. Also, have in mind that I don't like doing anime openings or songs from series, since this channel is oriented only to music and I find that show/anime preferences are somehing much more personal and specific that not all of you share. But this was an exception because, weather you like or not this anime, Lilium is such a good piece that it deserves to be recognized as a work of art appart from it's context of origin in Elfen Lied.
PS: It's still my favourite anime series though, but I have to say my favourite thing from the whole show is this song xD

1:37… that downturn was majestic. Absolutely transcendent. I was listening to this with my eyes closed on my bed and reveling in the sheer power of VY1’s voice (I really, absolutely thought a powerful voice bank would just be terrible with something like this, but you managed to make it a *strength*), and that moment got me to pause so I could type this comment. And I haven’t even listened fully through yet.
The timing is impeccable as well. So many covers of this miss the mark on timing, but you managed to make it so natural. I’m kind of questioning how you did it, actually-I tried making a soft Miku cover of this and thought I did… okay (I don’t upload my stuff), but that’s in comparison to basically every other Vocaloid cover of this song on CZcams. It makes me happy to know there’s such a dedicated fan base of vocal synths that churn out stuff like this on the regular, even when the hype died down in the 2010s, and you can rely on someone always putting out quality content even if there’s a dearth of content overall. I’m going to go look at your other covers now.

I’ve listened to vocaloid for 8 years and this is one of the best tunings I’ve ever heard, maybe the best tuning. Certainly one of the best uses of vocaloid I’ve ever seen. 15/10 for quality.

Thank you!!! Although "test" doesn't necessarily mean there will be a more complete version. It just means I did this cover as an experiment to test VY1's capabilities without taking the result as seriously as other covers...

If it's okay to request a cover, 8.32 by *Luna. I really really love that song! Thank you for this cover! Brings back my memories when watching Elfen Lied but this song is the most iconic one for me in the series. Did not know Japanese VB can sing other Language with this clarity. 🤗
I don't take requests anymore, but I'll sure check that song out! And thank you!!! ^u^ Japanese VB are not actually meant to sing other languages, but with the right phonemes and some tricks you can make them sound like they're doing so!

@@mckatherine another thing to add is that his covers of vocaloid usually it's instrumentals / STEMs are available for download, usually you will se in his Vid Description the link to the dropbox. It might be a good opportunity to play with his stems because I do that a lot to experiment with the mixing. That's all see'ya 'till next time. 😊
