Watching this takes me way back to the early 70s when I skated in quads! We had 3 skating rinks in Miami back then. Tropical North, Tropical West, and Tropical South skating centers. I believe they were all owned and operated by the same family. Well, the years went by and the one I went to most, Tropical West closed and turned into a church. Tropical North closed next. Eventually only Tropical South was left. The family I believe sold off this last one and it became Hot Wheels Skating Center for a few years. It was at that time that I actually returned to quad skating after several years of ice skating (my parents moved and I was near an ice skating rink in northwest Miami called Polar Palace, so I had to change my past time for some time). I even started giving kids and parents skating lessons at one point. Well, then a skate shop owner asked me to try out inline skates because he said that this was the new thing coming into the spotlight. So, I tried some inline skates and noticed they were better suited for outdoors because little rocks and pebbles didn't trip you up due to the narrow inline wheels. Later on Hot Wheels became Super Wheels Skating. I had sold my last quads several years ago. But, lately I'm thinking to get back on a new pair! Seeing Candace and her friends skating in quads to all this great music really is pushing me to buy a pair soon. Anyway, I started skating back in Brooklyn, NYC in 1973-74 if I recall correctly. I was 8-9 years old. I borrowed someone's metal key skates. Then we moved to Miami and skating was the thing alongside skateboarding. I also skateboarded during that time. These days I am back on skateboards, inline skates, and most likely will be getting a pair of quads once again!!! I'm 55 now but I can still get down on skates! Have a great day! Keep on skating!

Hi Candice! Its so amazing to see that all these years later you are still skating! I still have a VHS tape of you winning primary girls singles in Lincoln NE, 1994! You had a white ballerina style dress, and Chopin was your program music. You were such a big skating inspiration to me and you were always one of my favorites. Every year at Nationals I would look for you and couldn't wait to see your performance!

I remember watching that gold-hooped mama in the bomber jacket with the bomb quad muscles rising from the darkness of the double-yellow lines and being absolutely mesmerized by her strength, grace, and fluidity. Watching you skate is pure joy. Every one of my best guerilla shoots is like this BTS, complete with iced coffee and tortilla chips. Please, never stop.

Candice, some questions: my artistic roller classes are so incredibly stressful (I'm sure you know how it goes sometimes), I actually quit because I had a burnout with shows and competitions, plus a bad injury I just recovered from after a whole year.- I had lost all the joy that brought me into skating (on ice at the time) as a little girl!!! - quads for me are a lot more difficult, but I love them way more than ice. Do you think I can actually practice on my own? I just want the joy of it but also want to learn. Thanks! You're lovely. Hugs from Brazil :)
