I 1st heard this song when I was a teenager in the 1960's. I joined the Ann Carmichael Memorial Presbyterian Church choir located in Bensalem PA, just over the border of far northeast Philadelphia. One lady with a fantastic smooth voice in the choir did it as a solo. It left an impression! Unfortunately, that church later moved from Bible preaching to a social/ liberation theology and finally closed in 1988. Thankfully the Presbytery (owns all the buildings) sold the building at a discount to a Bible preaching Assemblies of God church called the Philadelphia Christian Center that a few years later built a new sanctuary in the front that is double the size of the original one. It's not my church so I sometimes listen to their sermons on-line and do visit when they have special hymn sing evening services.
My favorite Christmas song and we too, dang it at Catholic school Christmas choir, but you never hear it anymore!
It is a wonderful day
We are singing this at church on Sunday in Mauriceville, TX. I've never heard of this song until a couple weeks ago.
there are many "records" for this great tune...Gordon MacRae, Steve Green, Steve Amerson, pianist DINO (fantastic), choirs, orchestras. I love this since decades....I even recorded it, piano, back in 2014.
"I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely." -Jeremiah 23:5
This seems to be an almost forgotten Christmas song. The first time I even heard of it I sung it in a school play.

One of my favorite Christmas songs. My brother sang it every year at our family Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve.

Nice, updated arrangement! I wish I could just buy the lead / sheet music without a membership.
May I have your permission to use this song during a Christmas concert? I will be taking the voices out and using the background track.
I really like it!
