I actually read that with Christopher Walken's voice. It's the only patch installed in my head for that sentence. I bet you read this with his voice as well... :P
This machine is still as classic as it ever was. Just proves how much care went into some of the 80s gear- Linns, Sequential, Jupiters....over engineered and classic!
Dude, this channel is great! I JUST purchased my very own Linndrum. I suppose the hardest song to program is Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" due to the fact it was a programming mistake by Neil (her hubby and partner in music). He said he had a 8 beat bar pattern that he accidently turned into a 6 beat bar (something like that). I'd love to see you take a shot at that song as well as Don Henley's "Boys of Summer". I have successfully created his "Sunset Grill" but you seem to be a Linndrum Guru and THE guy that could figure out these two songs. Hope to see a video on it soon.
The LinnDrum sounds and Oberheim DMX sounds sometimes mixed with each other are heard in the 1992-2008 ending/funding version of the Sesame Street theme.
I remember that on SAW records sleeves the drums were always credited to "A Linn". There was also a documentary in the United Kingdom last year where they were interviewed and they said they had a sampler, but I can't remember if it was a CMI Fairlight or a Synclavier. They said that it broke down during a crucial all night session though. The programme is called Trailblazers of 80s Pop and it was on Sky Arts.
That's awesome. Whenever i'm messing around with drum machine sims, my patterns always seem like they're way too dense and overly complicated. Then i (re-)hear something like this, and i'm reminded how it still all works within the context of a song. Crazy, how much cowbell is in this. I usually think of it as a ridiculous tone for heavy use, but BOOM-there it is.
I think you can have at max two featured parts to your percussion without making it feel overly busy. For this it's the cowbell and the clap with everything else just being plainly vanilla
Love the custom clap drum that DOA and SAW used a lot in the 80s. It sounded better than your average drum machine clap. I've never been able to find one quite like it on any machine or any sound pack.
Paolo, you should work as a composer for a records label or major companies ! You're a talented musician, you got the best keyboards and machines, and you now exactly what is good music !!! Enjoy the all planet with your future synth hits !!!
I like what you did, you've shown the pattern which is vary handy! you should try popular old school trance and techno songs, but show the patterns. good stuff! ;-)
Very good tutorial. I very much enjoy my LinnDrum and will certainly be programming this pattern, albeit in step mode, which requires the latest (last) firmware for those reading this who don't know. Two things: 1) After programming the bass (4-on-the-floor), and even after the pattern was complete, why didn't you mute the click track? 2) Another request for "Boys of Summer" pattern tutorial!! I have tried to do it, but it's very difficult. I know it changes several times, so I know there would have to be at least two patterns chained together, but it's such a classic LinnDrum pattern I'm sure other fans would love to have you do it if you're up to it! Thanks! I enjoy all of your videos!
I read somewhere that this song was the very first to be completely electronic and sequenced but without any computer software or interface of any kind. Only stacks of hardware hooked up and keys and buttons pressed.
Can you reproduce Love is a battlefield? I heard it was done on the linn drum and originally an 8 bar phrase until it accidentally got changed to a 6 bar. Great video Mate!
Great video thx. So I take it there was no step sequencer on Linn Drum? Or can it auto-quantize instead to a preset interval length? I am ignorant to this I know, or maybe these features were on later devices I dunno...
The LinnDrum never gets old, sounds just as great today as it did over 30 years ago.
Awesome video!! Such good memories!!! R.I.P. Pete Burns!!
he's dead?
Yeah, he died in a terrible house fire.
why would you say something like that? he died of cardiac arrest.
Trying to make a "modernist topical" joke, its a fail and in really bad taste. Pete was a good one
WorksopGimpwell his last name shouldn't have been Burns
Hopefully your kids can appreciate the gear you've accumulated.
I wish you were my dad, haha.
go to bed!
I got a fever, and the only prescription is *more cowbell*
Explore the space! EXPLORE THE SPACE!
0prahTV Came here to say this.

0prahTV The LinnDrum cowbell was heard in Maniac (1983).
I actually read that with Christopher Walken's voice. It's the only patch installed in my head for that sentence. I bet you read this with his voice as well... :P
"You spin me right round, baby
Right round like a record, baby
Right round round round....." ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ;)
Kudos.
that Linndrum is in great shape dude usually they look pretty beat up.Always loved the sound of the Linn :D
That machine sounds so good. The snare and bass are the best.
How I adore that oldskul drummachine hits! Thank you Paolo-)
O.K. thanks, I will listen-)
Thanks Synthmania ! I used to use my Linndrum synced to my korg poly 61 to recreate many 80's classics !!
This machine is still as classic as it ever was. Just proves how much care went into some of the 80s gear- Linns, Sequential, Jupiters....over engineered and classic!
That snare sounds so glued into the mix, always supernice
The “You Spin Me Round” LinnDrum pattern was heard in “Venus” (1986-1987).
Venus came out in 1986
And any other SAW track. Or HiNRG.
it's a completely different pattern?
The LinnDrum cowbell was heard in Maniac (1983).
Thanks a lot! there are not so many videos on Linndrum programming. Apreciated!
Amazing video, thanx for uploading! I have a special place in my heart for the LinnDrum because Prince used it to perfection.
Hi! You rock my friend!!! I didn't know at first what a LinnDrum was. Fantastic video... Learn a lot
Great video!!! You are a very talented musician and teacher!
Love your channel and to answer your final question; yes! this is helpful.
Cool, gonna steal this beat for my TR-626 (poor mans LinnDrum), add some gritty synth bass and, voila, it's a nice house track. :)
The snare and kick sound really close.
Am I mistaken in guessing that the Roland, Sequential Circuits, Oberheim and E-Mu guys used the same EPROM chips for all their early drum machines?
ShreadTheWeapon I'm curious about this, too. Even if they did, I don't think the samples would be the same.
I'm quite sure that the samples are different.
please don't
such an amazing machine
beautifully done!
The snare bass and hi-hat at the slower tempo by itself sounds pretty good
Lovely machine.
Love this guy
awesome & thanks for sharing your precious knowledge
Thank *you for watching!
I love this!!!
In the song "The Message" (1982), the LinnDrum sounds and the Yamaha GS1 patch “Brass” as the synth octave brass/brasses were heard.
Hey, you're amazing . Thank you and well done !
Awesome video!!
Incredible. Cheers
Thanks a lot for the tutorial, really appreciated ! Just have to try it now !
"Can you reproduce new order blue monday the original ?" yes, i wish the same...

In the 'You spin me' there are Linndrums and Fairlights.
@@Iluhafirs Actually I believe it was a PPG system, they'd just finished programming it and it crashed.

LinnDrum was heard in “I Like Trucks” on Kidsongs: Cars, Boats, Trains and Planes (1986).
This is awesome, thank you !
Glad you like it!
Badass!
Well done!
Freaking awesome!

Awesome video, was looking forward to the double bass in the chours
There seems to be rapid bass drum and snare fills on and off in the song too, especially in the chorus.
its a kind of magic!!! thanks! ))
Thank *you for watching!
Well done.
Cool video!
great sound dead or alive
Oooooh, this video is awesome 😲
Well done! 👍🏻
Thanks!
TY 😀
Groovy!
I got no idea what this is but I'm loving it! Ta da da da dda ta :D
Man i want a linndrum!!!
I need one of these

The LinnDrum snare drums sometimes mixed/heard with Roland S-50 snare drums are head in Danger Zone (1986-1987).
Cool
In this song, the Oberheim DMX claps were heard.
Wow sounds like the real song.
Cheers
Another excellent video tutorial !! Thanks. I would like to see the pattern of "Soul Searchers - Ashley's Roachclip” the classic os 90s…Thanks again.
Behringer needs to get us this beast asap. 😂

Awesome video. Would love to see you program "Boys Of Summer"!
No. We willl only do only classics.
This is just soooo Niiice. Much better than some stupid vst in a DAW or modern drumpad. Simply works :) :)
Can you reproduce new order blue monday the original ? Only poor quality sound on youtube :-)
YES !
You haven't found this one? czcams.com/video/LGRN8nUtf1o/video.html
Thank you synth mania, missed that one. :=)
If you like Blue Monday, have you seen this: watch?v=6gWoGCQJDeI
woooooo...btw, Youthquake is a solid album
It is!! From Spin me to Been a long time, Solid like you said. Love the intro of My heart goes Bang Youthquake's version better than the remixes.
ahhhhhh, i need the bass drop!!!
I read somewhere that this song was the very first to be completely electronic and sequenced but without any computer software or interface of any kind. Only stacks of hardware hooked up and keys and buttons pressed.
By 1985, I doubt it
thanks for all the great vids! Anyone knnow what drum machine was the original done on?
For me, this is the best pop record of the 80's. Please can you do a synth vid?
I wish I could use some of those old school beats in new songs.
you could add the synthie background patterns programming too which were programmed also with the linn 9000
Is the cheat sheet available for download? Apologies is this was asked before... Thx
Fantastic! Can you make the LinnDrum pattern of the song "You Think You're a Man" by Divine?
When you slow it down to 16 bpm, it sounds like it would make a good beat for a reggae pop song.
I just spent 5 mins spell bound by this!
the snare is clearly a different sample in the real song, does anyone know which rom they used? i've heard that snare used quite a bit
They used a Linn 9000 since it doubled as their sequencer. Stock sounds but heavily processed.
Would you ever try to get a Linn LM-1?
Cool vid! Let's see that 9000 sometime! 👽👍
Can you reproduce Love is a battlefield? I heard it was done on the linn drum and originally an 8 bar phrase until it accidentally got changed to a 6 bar. Great video Mate!
I have an MPC 5000 which I think is a part of the linn drum Leniage
Wow, a fl studio but fisical XD, awesome video pal.
I love the meatspin song
Wooow Nice! Can use some sounds on pc like some virtual drum or something? :) Tnx from Buenos Aires :)
Great video thx. So I take it there was no step sequencer on Linn Drum? Or can it auto-quantize instead to a preset interval length? I am ignorant to this I know, or maybe these features were on later devices I dunno...
Linn Linn, where you binn!
Hi!! great classic pattern!!
Pls program "Lee Marrow - Sayonara" in linndrum
