  • Many people struggle to remove their Polaris ATV front differential, especially on the earlier version XP models, 550 and 850 with EPS. Service manual requires fuel tan removal.
    BUT, there is a better way!! This also applies to the Polaris Highlifter 1000 XP as well.

    Hey there, you might be able to answer my question. Does the lower steering post with the bearing have to be put back on a certain way to be aligned? Cause I took mine off and put it back on and now my rod is making a bunch of noise and didn’t before

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Před rokem

      it only fits on one way. It may have been damaged when you removed it as it can get stuck in there good. Or noise could be you EPS unit or the upper steering bushing

    have a 2021 hl xp 1000 there's a hose on front of front diff that's hanging down I've been told it could be a breather hose but if not we're would it hook up too

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Před 2 lety

      Yes its a vent hose which allows the differential to breathe. There are several on the machine. The end of it is left open on purpose. You should have 3 or 4 of them...

    What is the easiest way to change out the lower steering stem/post. The bearing on my 2013 850XP has upward play and im going to be replacing the lower steering post with the new pinch bolt version. Is it possible to unbolt the power steering unit , the inner tie rods and bull the handle bars upward and make enough room to slide out the lower steering stem?

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Před 2 lety

      You cannot access all the EPS nuts and bolts without removing fuel tank. Plus the steering post is 2 pieces. You will likely need to basically do everything in the diff removal process, pop the lower steering assembly and slide differential ahead to remove the part.

  • @tvr12speed3
    @tvr12speed3 Před 2 lety

    Did you loosen the collar around the steering colum right above the bearing? I can't get the diff to lift up at all. The bracket is lifted up off the diff but bearing won't come out, it's loose but won't lift high enough to come out

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Před 2 lety

      No you can't reach all those bolts or nuts. That's why manual call to remove fuel tank. If you have bearing loose and will move but not quite clear, you have to push the diff forward and then up and it will clear. You removed winch, right?

    • @tvr12speed3
      @tvr12speed3 Před 2 lety

      @@ADVENTURESThisWay I move the winch so it's out of the way. My problem is when I try lift the diff it pushes the bearing/steering shaft up just barely and it stops. I can see it pushing the power steering . I'm wondering if the bracket that the tie rods are attached to is supposed to be able to slide up and down the steering shaft a little. Mine doesn't at all. It may be due to mud build up. I tried lube on the shaft but no luck yet. I can't get the dif to lift even a 1/4 inch and everything is unbolted from the diff

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  Před 2 lety

      @@tvr12speed3 yes its likely jammed with crud. Keep spraying it down with lube. You don't actually need to remove the inner tie rod ends but it may give you more room to work. Do you have the 2 bolts removed that attach the lower steering stem to the diff?
      And yes there should be some play, it's just stuck. Of course you could go to the proper method and remove the fuel tank and the un bolt every thing...

    • @tvr12speed3
      @tvr12speed3 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ADVENTURESThisWay the tie rids are hung up or off the way. I took the bolts out of the top of the diff. It must just be stuck with crude. Hopefully letting the lube soak down there for a day will loosen up the steering shaft and will let it move enough to pop that bag boy out. Thank you for all your help! This video saved me a ton of headaches!
