    If Dan Gurney were British, he would be Sir Dan for his contributions to motorsports. Thank You Mr. Gurney!

      He still could have gotten that. Colin Powell received an honorary knighthood.

    Being from Santa Ana we had a lot of pride in Mr. Gurney. I still remember the great loss of Swede at Indy, he was our guy.
    Dan was a true original, drove so many types of cars, excelled at everything without losing that everyman quality about him. We need more people like Dan Gurney, rest in peace sir.

      I grew up in Santa Ana, and as a youth I used to ride my bike right by the unassuming, even bland exterior of All-American Racers, pondering the wonders going on behind those walls. Once in a while I'd hear them fire up an engine, feeling the vibrations in my gut. What a time.

    Well, I just learned today of the passing of this longtime hero of mine.
    I'm Canadian but I feel the same grief as any American should, young or older. This Man was so impressive in whatever challenge he did overtake. Such a huge imagination, creativity, determination and fairness is awesome and rare to any human being. Farewell Dan Gurney, I will always remember you as a prime road model...

    It's so good to learn about this amazing man he's gone now but it's so good to see that he had a wonderful career which no one can take away from them at this point and he will leave a legacy of success innovation something that all men should have in very few do. I love the way interfere interface With A J foyt when they discuss the Le Mans victory and he definitely was not for building himself up at the expense of anybody else he gave AJ foyt all the accolades he needed both were amazing man and they made me proud when they won the Le Mans

    That BLAT Eagle in the background was probably his coolest machine - won at Milwaukee and just needed a little more engine refinement to start kicking tail (and was banned for that reason - would likely have forced all the teams to buy cars from AAR or build their own BLAT-style cars).

    • @caribman10
      @caribman10 Před 6 lety +2

      Wish I could agree, but the animus against Dan had started a long time before BLAT...he was the primary force regarding stock-block equivalency in Indy Cars, and his were consistently the fastest - which led to that concept being banned. Then BLAT came along, and it was a different sort of ground effect technology than the Europeans had concocted....and that meant Gurney was again an outlier. The argument that the other teams sunk costs would have been zeroed because of BLAT doesn't work if you look at the annual changes Indy cars had (and have) anyway. What SOME people didn't want was to let Dan yet again dominate the grids with 2/3 of the field being Eagles. Just sayin' here that an American was set to dominate an American racing series and the powers-that-be didn't want that because their investment was in Europe, and that includes Penske, whose cars designed and built in England.

      @@caribman10 and yet in the 1970's...I don't remember what year... Fred Gerhardt from right up the road in Fresno, California had something like 29 of the 33 starters at the Indy 500 using Gerhardt cars in the race. Go figure
