This is a brilliant analysis. I completely agree, and this is *exactly* what I would hope someone takes away from this episode. Part of the inspiration for this docuseries was the fact that most of the CZcams channels covering Dolton politics are intensely focused on Tiffany's current scandals and most outrageous dialogue, leaving most people to speculate as to how she was elected - even on this video, you will find a comment to which I wrote a lengthy reply in the hopes that they would see the bigger picture beyond race. If you see the unedited board meeting that this is taken from, there are already a handful of people in the audience (from 2019) who have joined her cult of personality. I'm sure you could find several examples of local politicians who incite the residents in a similar way. It is just a marvelous coincidence that Tiffany's demagoguery was captured in high definition, and is so unsophisticated that anyone can see right through it (e.g. "wouldn't *you* want a tax break on your house, residents?"). It is blatantly obvious that she has no intention to participate in the debate - there are many politicians out there who are more subtle. I completely agree with you that Tiffany has always been like this, and there is certainly a high level of mental instability. While I do try my best to provide an impartial view, it's hard to not feel tremendous sympathy for Riley Rogers and what he had to endure - I'm sure it would have affected the health of anyone in that position. The end goal with this docuseries is to illustrate all the nuances of dangerous personalities for public service - it was a marvelous coincidence that Dolton has some of the most entertaining characters, and the best quality footage of government meetings going back many years. Tiffany is an extreme example of demagoguery in local government, but hardly a unique one - you can hear people cheering for her in this meeting as she feeds them misinformation. There are politicians at all levels of government that do this to obstruct progress - it is a problem that transcends political party, race, and gender. Hopefully the people watching this will become more involved in their own local government and watch their elected leaders more closely for these personality traits, wherever they may be. What I've been doing right now is throwing in short "glimpses into the future" - in this episode, it was how Duane Muhammad's personal differences with the mayor led him to endorse Tiffany. Duane Muhammad actually ran for mayor in 2017 and got around 350 votes - Tiffany won by less than a hundred votes in 2021. Obviously it's more complex than just blaming Muhammad - the woman standing front and center in that endorsement video is standing in the background of the next scene and is one of Tiffany's most vocal critics. I also did an episode on the gas giveaways (S1E7) - at the end of the day, it was the combined pressure of all these things that led to the present situation.

Indeed he did! Apparently she turned on him right away. There is plenty of footage from 2013-2015 of Tiffany's early antics, but the audio/video quality is not that great. Originally she was a very vocal critic of the corruption in Riley's predecessor's administration (Ronnie Lewis).
Awesome video. Tiffany understands nothing about how property taxes are calculated. Maybe you could do a video that describes how the annual tax levy divided by the assessed value creates the district tax rate. Then how having a new or expanded business increases the district EAV thereby lowering the tax rate. There is no tax revenue gained or lost by having new businesses. It's all about the tax levy.

I grew up in San Jose back in the early 2000's, and I've seen the city make great progress. A lot of the blighted houses and empty storefronts that I saw when I was younger are now filled with thriving businesses and beautiful communities. One of the driving forces behind this has been the tech industry - the budget of San Jose is now around $3 billion dollars, compared to Dolton's budget (which was around $20 million in 2019 - Tiffany's mismanagement has reduced it to around $8 million in 2024). There's a lot of great data to make the comparison, but the best one I think is this - if you look at how much money is available to spend on each resident, it's around $3000 per San Jose resident, as compared to around $1000 per Dolton resident (in 2019 - now it is much less). Dolton is also ~90% African American, and it is hardly unique in any elected government for a majority ethnicity to have majority representation. Dolton was also facing a budget crisis at this time, exacerbated by situations that are specific to Illinois (privatization of the water supply, loss of steel manufacturing jobs, etc). San Jose is facing a similar budget crisis right now with a $50 million shortfall for this year - so these are problems that are quite unrelated to race, and more closely related to financial literacy. Hopefully this episode has emphasized the comparison of Tiffany (who is incapable of understanding the information presented to her) and the more informed trustees like Jason House, Tammy Brown, and Edward Steave. Hopefully the citizens of other localities can recognize this dangerous flaw in their own leaders - not by how they look, but by how they speak and how they listen.

Apparently corruption runs very deep in Dalton. And the people you think are the good people could be a lot of them not all of them very bad people. And one of the worst is Teflon Tiffany. But apparently you didn't want to screw up whatever nefarious things you were doing so you thought if you voted her in maybe she would keep her mouth shut. And that's like trying to take a snapping turtle and tie a small shut and thinking it's not going to get it open. She doesn't even take a breath between sentences. And then when she does speak you can't understand half of what she says because she doesn't use the English language she uses some language from another planet. Awesome video. Tiffany understands nothing about how property taxes are calculated. Maybe you could do a video that describes how the annual tax levy divided by the assessed value creates the district tax rate. Then how having a new or expanded business increases the district EAV thereby lowering the tax rate. There is no tax revenue gained or lost by having new businesses. It's all about the tax levy.

I grew up in San Jose back in the early 2000's, and I've seen the city make great progress. A lot of the blighted houses and empty storefronts that I saw when I was younger are now filled with thriving businesses and beautiful communities. One of the driving forces behind this has been the tech industry - the budget of San Jose is now around $3 billion dollars, compared to Dolton's budget (which was around $20 million in 2019 - Tiffany's mismanagement has reduced it to around $8 million in 2024). There's a lot of great data to make the comparison, but the best one I think is this - if you look at how much money is available to spend on each resident, it's around $3000 per San Jose resident, as compared to around $1000 per Dolton resident (in 2019 - now it is much less).
Dolton is also ~90% African American, and it is hardly unique in any elected government for a majority ethnicity to have majority representation. Dolton was also facing a budget crisis at this time, exacerbated by situations that are specific to Illinois (privatization of the water supply, loss of steel manufacturing jobs, etc). San Jose is facing a similar budget crisis right now with a $50 million shortfall for this year - so these are problems that are quite unrelated to race, and more closely related to financial literacy. Hopefully this episode has emphasized the comparison of Tiffany (who is incapable of understanding the information presented to her) and the more informed trustees like Jason House, Tammy Brown, and Edward Steave. Hopefully the citizens of other localities can recognize this dangerous flaw in their own leaders - not by how they look, but by how they speak and how they listen.

Apparently corruption runs very deep in Dalton. And the people you think are the good people could be a lot of them not all of them very bad people. And one of the worst is Teflon Tiffany. But apparently you didn't want to screw up whatever nefarious things you were doing so you thought if you voted her in maybe she would keep her mouth shut. And that's like trying to take a snapping turtle and tie a small shut and thinking it's not going to get it open. She doesn't even take a breath between sentences. And then when she does speak you can't understand half of what she says because she doesn't use the English language she uses some language from another planet. So something is very shady from the start this was before she was a mayor. There's a lot of things that are hidden here that we the people are not seeing.
