I associate the original version of this song with my high school prom. All the chances I had with the girl I liked and I squandered every single one of them. I ended up being the wallflower, sitting by myself and watching everyone else have fun, and watch the girl I liked for six years dancing with someone else. 9 years have passed and hearing this version of the song makes me feel like adult me is back in that room, seeing 18-year old me so full of conflicted feelings, not realizing that life as he knew it would be over in one short month. I’d give anything to go back and change everything. I’d do anything to go back and change so much about my life back then and have a second chance; not just with the girl I liked, but at being able to be happy in that moment. This version is so fitting; it’s melancholic. It’s giving me the ability to look back into the past and see myself in that moment, but also feel how I truly felt.
