As always, very informative unboxing, assembly and first use video. For those looking to master a Kamado Joe, James videos and channel is the place to get started to gain great confidence in using your KJ.
Well said! Thanks Scott
Smoking Dad BBQ You are welcome!
Thanks so much! Just got my Kamado Joe III. I cant imagine going through this put together with just the simple instructions they include. Thank you for the in depth informative video's !
Your videos are lifesaving!!! We just purchased the Joe Classic III and I was feeling overwhelmed 😅 Thank you for all of your videos 😊
If I ever get a Kamado I'll have to come back to this video! Nice job James!
Glad you enjoyed it. Take care
I thought I found a good assembly video and then I found this one and it blew the other one away. Speaking specifically about putting the fire ring on. The toilet paper trick is a game changer!! Thank you!!! Broke my classic III in tonight with its first burn. Grilling tomorrow!!!
Just want to give some big thanks to you for all of the help and advice your channel has provided.
I only received my long awaited Classic III today and I followed your guide from start to finish. Every thing went fine and I'm now sitting out the initial burn. My coals only lasted about 4 hours though, as I was using the Weber Premium Lumpwood Charcoal and not the Kamdo XL (which wasn't delivered with my bundle!). I wasn't really sure where the bottom air intake should've been set, but it was nice to watch the temps climb and hold steady.
Thanks for creating such an informative and super clear guide for the Kamado!
Congrats Henry on the new Joe
This is a great video (as are all of them on this channel). I just got my first Kamado Joe yesterday (Classic III) and I followed this video step-by-step to set it up. Now I'm doing my first burn and can't wait to get started cooking. Thank you so much for putting all these videos together. If nothing else it's nice to watch something on CZcams that's not baby shark or cocomelon for my toddler ;)
I just put together my first Kamado Joe and I can't think how much time and frustration I saved by watching this video and learning the toilet paper trick! Thanks!
hahaha amen right? Glad it helped!
I just assembled my first Kamado Joe with the step-by-step instructions in this video. The break-in burn is underway right now! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
My Classic III was delivered a couple of weeks ago. I have watched so many videos, I didn't have any issues setting it up, but when I saw this video posted I wanted to watch it to see if there was anything I missed. Lots of good information, and great tips for cooking with the a KJ. If you're thinking of buying one but are still on the fence, let me say that Kamado Joe is definitely the ceramic grill you want. Great quality, and lots of great videos here for ideas on using it and using it correctly.
Thanks for sharing! congratulations on the new grill Cody
Just built mine after seeing a lot of your videos that motivated to buy one. This video is much more helpful than the manual - which isn't that bad but your videos are just better! 🎉
Thanks James - it may just be a barbeque but your advice and step by step guidance for sure enables the novice with a Kamado to get it assembled right the first time - looking forward to using the Joe now and checking out your other videos. Greetings from the south of France !
Greetings, glad the video was helpful!
Thanks James for the informative setup video. Just bought a Kamado Joe classic 3 from a great bbq store Masons place in Keswick and found this very handy for helping the setup go very smoothly. Cant wait to fire it up!
James, I don't see anything wrong with the content or style of your videos. They are really helpful for those of us who own KJs. Keep up the good work!
Glad you like them! Trolls be trolls lol 😂
Great teacher, can’t wait to learn all that he teaches. Love your style.
Thanks so much!
Nice video; Your tip using the paper to prop the baffle was a life saver!!
Glad it helped
Congrats James on finally getting your grill! Im still waiting for my Big Joe III. Thanks for continuing to post such great videos!
Thanks for watching!
Great walk through James! Always so well explained! Looking forward to seeing your first cook! I always like to get a tomahawk for the official break in! Cheers!
Thanks 👍. and completely agree on the best break in cook
Good job 👏
I don’t know why so many grumpy rude people commented 🤦♂️
Woke up on the wrong side of the bed today it seems lol
Yay! Mine finally arrived today and I’m performing the burn-in after watching your vid. Can’t wait for its first assignment tomorrow, a rib eye! 😊. Thanks for all the great info. Keep it up!!
Fantastic!
Thank you for this... Helped a lot!! Am shocked that some people gave this a thumbs down! 🤔?... It's clear, well expressed and very informative. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Trolls be trolls lol
Thanks so much for this video. It was immensely helpful as I set up my first Kamado Joe Classic III. I knew exactly what to do and in what order. My only hiccup was thinking that because you and your wife put it on the stand that perhaps my wife and I could heft the shell around back of the house from our driveway where it was delivered. One quasi lift from her and we knew that wasn't happening. But I was able to quickly find a moving company that would do it quickly and pretty cheaply. I got it up to 350 and held it there for a bit after watching your technique in this and other videos. All that's left now is to go buy a chicken to spatchcock and dry brine for our first cook tomorrow. Thanks again
These instructions are outstanding. I just set my Joe up and it’s coming up to temp! Keep making videos, this is my favorite BBQ channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome video. Thank you. I got my Joe Classic 3 right before Xmas and the weather is finally perfect for me to start my adventure cooking with this beast
Glad it helped! Congrats on your new joe
Very informative unboxing. I just got my kamado today and I felt really confident with the steps with your help. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Our Classic Joe 3 arrives next week, this video has been invaluable, thank you James
happy to help, and congrats
My Classic 3 arrives in about 11 days. My first Kamado style smoker. This was a great video. Thanks James.
Congrats. Enjoy it
Just got my KJ today! Super stoked and grateful for this channel. Good stuff :)
Rock on!
Some really useful tips in setting up a new KJ, just need to get one now 😀. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
No joke, I got my Classic 3 today. Great timing
Congrats Alan
I have been watching several of your Kamado Joe videos and I have enjoyed them all. You have a passion and enthusiasm for this brand. Having said this, the thing that caught my attention is your shirt. I love it and all it’s color.
hahaha thanks mark
"I've never had one of my rings warp." Very good James. Very very good. :-)
Many thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial. Don’t have a Kamado Joe yet, but this is the model we’re interested in. We’re buildinga new home. When it’s complete, we’llbuy the Joe.
Congrats on the new house, and how awesome to already be thinking about your outdoor kitchen. Counter space is important as is lighting, if I did it again I would prioritize these features even more than the basic rain protection I have
Just watched your video to install my FIRST kamado classic III. Huge fan already thanks a bunch!
Glad I could help!
Just discovered Kamado Joe and found your video very interesting. Thank you from the Czech Republic
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for your detail and methodical approach to these videos!
Glad you like them! Much appreciated Tim
Great video! Much appreciated. Just got my classic 3 yesterday and will be doing this as soon as the rain stops :)
Have fun!
I just picked one up today! Thanks for the video, can’t wait to put it together and get cooking 👊
Congrats. Hope you enjoy it!
I just ordered my Classic Friday 5-14 and will be delivered Monday 5-17. Can't wait.
congratulations
Perfect vid! You saved my butt! Just got my Classic III and the toilet paper suggestion was a life saver!! Ordered the Meater from your site. Thanks of all you do!!
congrats Tim
Someday I’ll get one. Thanks for the video. Always enjoy yours.
Thanks so much. News just dropped about a KJ kettle with the SloRoller built into the shape ... might be a more affordable starting point
I am deciding between a classic 3 or big joe 3. Your videos are invaluable in helping with this decision. Thank you, Brian
Glad to help!
This video is the reason I got the classic III. Thanks James!
thanks and congrats Todd
Thank you so much for that toilet paper trick. I set mine up not knowing how to get them together. Your videos are always so informational.
Happy to help!
Love your vids while waiting for it to arrive.
Got mine last Friday and looks like it had some rough handling. Bottom of shell was cracked about 3" in 3 directions.
Company was great and replacment arriving tomorrow. Cant wait to use it!
Enjoy it! sorry to hear your S&H company set you back, but hopefully back in business quickly
Thank you for this video. I just received my KJC III. This video was a life saver!
Glad it helped and enjoy the new KJ!
It’s like Christmas Day!!! Congrats on finally receiving your long awaited grill, James!!💃🏻🔥
Yes! Thank you!
Yesterday I bought this kamado in Hungary. This video is very helpful, thank You.😉
You are welcome 😊
Great video! My BJ3 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Can’t wait to tear into and get cooking.
Congratulations Scott... the process is the same, just heavier lol ... I used two people for the big joe to help lift and everything else was the same
hey that was a great tutorial especially the tip about the toilet paper to bring the things forward. Thanks from the UK Stuart
Glad it was helpful!
I wish I had watched this before assembling my Joe!!!...Brilliant
thanks
I FINALLY received my Big Joe III today, after ordering in NOVEMBER 2020....SIXTEEN MONTHS AGO! So excited!!
oh wow... i am cooking a brisket for a friend today who ordered the same time as you. he hasn't gotten his yet either
In this video, you talk about checking the bands before the grill gets too hot, and you are going to show a close-up of doing that, but it's not in this video. Is there another video where you do check the bands?
Great video James - have just unpacked my new KJ-C3 can’t wait to fire it up!
Hope you enjoy it! Congrats
Oh... nothing better than a classic! The cart on that is really nice! Take care James.
thanks Johnny
When I unboxed mine, the quality of the cart stood out immediately. Kamado Joe grills are worth every penny, IMO.
That shirt is a classic 🤣 but seriously love the unboxing my man and how you break down the process. Cannot wait to see what you cook on that bad boy!
Appreciate it!! Thanks Matt
This was a super helpful video . Thank you so much.
cheers
Good timing with everything, after almost a 3 month wait my classic 3 finally arrived last week. Hopefully I can get a first cook in this weekend. I did end up with a cracked heat deflector though...
Hope you enjoy it! Bummer on the plate
Just got a Joe. Your video was excellent. 💥💥💥
congratulations and Awesome! Thank you!
Have fun with your nice new grill 🍀😊
Thank you, I will. Cheers 🍻
Thank you for this video it was very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Just took delivery of my Big Joe III, the paper towel trick really did it! Now going to rewatch your videos again...for the third time?
haha congrats
Great job..just put mine together, thanks so much.
Glad it helped
Great video.
Love the matching crocks 😂
hahaha Thanks! 😁
I just received my Joe Classic 3 I was forced to purchase thanks to you.
hahaha you’ll thank me later
Thanks James, enjoyed your video. I'm getting my Classic III in about 3 weeks. Questions about your break in burn:
1. How long did you leave it on? At what temperature?
2. How did you turn it "off"? Just close the vents?
3. Why do you leave it closed for at least 24 hours after turning it off?
Thanks Man, I can't wait to try some of your recipes!
congratulations on your new grill. an hour at 350-400 is plenty. I leave it sealed up for 24 hours as that helps the glue on the gaskets cure to reduce the risk of them falling off after some use. yes just close the bottom vent and then the top vent
Thanks for asking these questions as I just received mine today and went back to watch this particular video. Thanks for the answer, SD!
Great video! I am waiting to get mine and I will definitely come back to this video to follow your tips. Don't listen to all those negative comments. The people that wrote them are too dumb to tie their own shoes, so they are taking it out on you.
Thanks Chris... figured I woke a sleeping internet troll who has nothing better to do with their time
Please read the title before giving negative comments, well presented video did what the title said !!
Finally some common sense lol 😂, thanks
You are the reason I got the Big Joe 3
Great video. Getting my Kamado Joe Classic III next week. Christmas in April!
Good choice! congratulations
@@SmokingDadBBQ Thanks. I'm looking forward to my first feast. I'm a Weber Smokey Mtn guy, so this is a new experience for me.
I went to get some Jealous Devil lump coal hoping my Joe Jr would get here soon and ended up with a classic 3. I can't pick it up till next week but I'm excited. Thanks for the videos.
Right on. thanks for watching
I just went in store today to pay for my Kamado Joe classic 3! If all goes as planned I'll have it delivered this Satuday!
I have a vacuumed sealed rack of ribs I'll try out the 321 method with.
amazing. I personally love the 2-1 method I used in this video but you can’t go wrong - czcams.com/video/k3hLMNQCnE8/video.html
Ribs were the first thing I cooked on my new Classic III. The sloRoller did a great job. Best ribs I've every cooked, and it was just my first attempt.
Great video, used it to set up my joe
Glad it helped
Getting my grill in twenty minutes. Driver already called letting me know he’s on the way. Great video. Can’t wait to cook using some of your techniques.
fantastic. Hope you enjoy
Thanks for the tips!!!
Happy to help! cheers
That lighting video would be super useful too James - had to use lighter fluid in a grill when on vacation over the weekend and it just makes the meat smell. The most natural way to light must be the best.
Absolutely, will make it happen
Thanks for keeping the volume level on the music low. Great video!
thanks!
Great video!
Thanks!
Made assembly simple. Thnxs man
glad to help
Great Unboxing. 👍👍

Fantastic Sharing.. 👍👍👍
Thank you 🤗
Great video and lots of good tips. I'm deciding between the KJ3 Classic or BigJoe. I only have to cook for a few most of the time but when I'm entertaining my concern is not having the real estate needed. Maybe do a video on what each can handle in terms of quantity of food (racks of ribs, lbs of pork, etc)? Or showing how to maximize space on the Classic 3?
The big Joe is my favourite if you can swing it. You won’t ever look back and wonder
Great video. 👍🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
nice video :) ; waiting for my KJ to arrive the next weeks :)
Hope you enjoy it! Its worth the wait
Aren't these parts for adjusting/replacing the hinge? Nice to see you got your classic 3!
Yes they are, they lock the dome / airlift hinge so that it can be removed, the gasket can be replaced
great video. thank you ! ! ! ! !
Glad you liked it!
Now I really want a Komodo Joe!
Cheers 🍻
Agreed. I would have never purchased a Kamado Joe without these videos.
Nice one!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for this video, this is great to avoid any mistakes while stetting up a new Kamado Joe.
Due to your videos i was able to make the decision which Kamado to buy. Unfortunately in the Netherlands and Belgium there is no way to get your hands on a KJ classic 3! And nobody seems to know when it will be in stock again. This is so frustrating 🥴.
yes they are sold out most places as they are getting snatched up quick
Giving this video a second watch while I set up my classic 3. What should I cook first on it? Anything that’s good for getting to know your Kamado?
i love chicken as a first cook as its just so surprising in how much more moist it is. SloRoller at 425f for about 45min
Thanks for the welcome!
You bet!
Hey James, love the videos! I'm picking my first Joe up today (Lowe's Canada has a 30% clearance on the Big Joe II). There is a floor model I am considering at 45% off but as the top gasket has come off...have you had to adhere a gasket in the past, and if so, what glue would you recommend?
Wow fantastic... i would push for more off because of that ( but its fine). Then you can ask for warranty as they are a warranty approved retailer but in general you will get a tube of Bison Silicon High Temp (RED) max 300c chemical resistant or something like that and re-seal it and you're good to go
Ty for the info, my grill dome has a cracked lid after 10 years, so its time for a joe
can you get a warranty replacement
@@SmokingDadBBQ yea I have been fighting them for months, they want $190 to ship, I have yoder coming in it cost $222 & it weighs 500 pounds, so I'm done with grill dome
Congrats James! So does this qualify you as an unofficial Kamado Joe showroom? On lid removal, I removed my lid to get the kamado on the cart, I did not have much help. I did use the older method -tie wrapping the hinge in the closed position instead of using the "do hickey". I know thoroughly read instructions before starting, wheres the adventure in that?. So this does mean I finally got a Classic II. Thanks for the video guidance, it was great reassurance and info for my first cooks and set up.
congratulations on your new Joe
Hi James. I watched this video specifically to get tips on how to put those pesky ceramic plates back in my Kamado Joe Big Joe Series 2. Mission accomplished after help with the toilet paper trick. My son bought me a charcoal basket for Father’s Day which was supposed to fit the Big Joe 2. However once I installed it, the basket sits higher on the ceramic plate walls than yours did in this video. It sits a good 3” above where the grate would normally sit. Is this too high in your opinion? The base of the charcoal basket is about 16.75” across. The diameter of the Joe at grate level is about 12.5”. Pls help!
Edgar Smith
After a couple of months of use of my Kamado Joe Classic 3, I have to agree with James and not install the stainless steel whatchamacallit thingy in the bottom of the fire pit. As he notes, it just collects ash that can't be removed unless you take apart the entire assembly or use a shop vac (as I did) to suck the stuff out.
If I have any gripe about the KMJ Classic 3, it's this superfluous bit of kit. Take James' advice and leave it out.
cheers
Great vid thanks mate , will use it again next week during my set up!! But how hot did u get it for its burn in and how long for ???
congratulations, i did about an hour at 400f and then shut it down for 24 hours
Great video as always! Love your channel...
Have a challenge/video request for you: Can you smoke/cook a turkey breast on the Joe Jr and keep it moist/tender? We only have the Joe jr and LOVE it, but wondered about how successful a turkey breast would be for the upcoming holidays ... can you show us how it's done?!
Oh I love this idea, will see if I can fit it in... content calendar is filling up for the fall but this would be perfect
Great video. Just got my grill assembled - the toilet paper trick is brilliant! Question: did I miss the part about the bands? I watched it twice and I still don’t know where the bands are or how to check them.
I was hoping your chapter on tightening bands had a little more detail perhaps you can do a quick video on that sometime because I think that would be extremely helpful. Otherwise, despite other people’s whining comments I think you did great and following exactly what your title says ... Unboxing, assembly, and first use. Ignore the overly negative folks with zero constructive feedback.
Houston Mccain again you are another example of another whiny online commenter and offer ZERO constructive feedback on even what supposedly was bad.
Great suggestion! There is a great deal of adjustability in the bands so lots to cover
Just discovered Kamado Joe and took delivery of a classic III today. Question, did I hear you say on a recent video that a burn-in is no longer required? Thanks! Excited to start cooking. Your videos give me a lot of confidence.
