wait im confused. you said the study said holding weights in the opposite hand targetted the gluted more, but when you demonstrated you were holding the weight in the same hand as your leg - do you mind clarifying?
He demonstrates both. Holding the weight in the opposite hand targets the glutes more. And holding the weight in the same hand targets the hamstrings more. He expresses that both ways are good. And he demonstrates both. 😀
True but I didn’t even know holding the weight in different hands was a thing as the instructor video I watched I didn’t even notice the weight was in the opposite hand 😅definitely my error but if you are trying something new it’s easy to miss things even though you think you got it down.
Yes! 🙏🙏 I struggle with balance using the bsame side and have always done it on opposite side (and I need to target my glutes more than the hammies...so 😊)
I always found the same side easier for balance but if both are the same for the hamstrings but opposite hand is better for the glutes, than let's go to the last version, the contralateral one.
I wonder how big of a difference it makes to do single leg deadlifts like this vs. a b-stance deadlift? I prefer these better, but my program prescribes b stance dead’s instead.
It might be that single leg hip thrusts would be the same, if this is the case. Don't know what the most comfortable way to load that would be, though.
Ive always wondered this! Thank you. Would it be the same for lunges and bulgarian split squat for example? I tend to do lunges / split squats holding the weight with the opposite hand of the working leg. (Does that make sense? 🤔😅) im unable to hold both weights so use one.
Shows graphic with highlighted results of weight on the contralateral (opposite) side of the body beinging better for the booty while at the same time narrating results saying that contralateral (opposite) side is better for the booty so that the written word supports the spoken word. Then immediately shows clip of people exercising ipsilaterally (same side) and says that is the best way to develop the booty.
well that's like not holding anything at all, it cancels out. Not one side is prioritized, so best of both worlds aka mix of both glute and hamstring work.
I have always liked it in the opposite side because it helps out with my balance. But it is cool to hear about research looking at this.
The same concept as a b stance RDL and a b stance Hip Thrust…Makes a lot of sense🙏🏻
I’ve wondered this for so long! Thank you!!
wait im confused. you said the study said holding weights in the opposite hand targetted the gluted more, but when you demonstrated you were holding the weight in the same hand as your leg - do you mind clarifying?
I thought the same!

You are correct . I watched it about 5 times because my mind was processing what he said in conjunction with what I was seeing
@jessicaduran8698 thank you for clarifying. With the video with the man, he says the opposite- I don't think he meant that though. 😊
Correct wrong timing on video. Listen to his words.
He's back!!!
I was just thinking about this and couldnt find any credible answers. Thank you!
I always wondered why it felt so different, and thought it was just a preference thing. thanks for breaking this down
Guys this is simple. Try both. Youll clearly see which one targets the glutrs more. Dont need research to show me that.

Ty. I was just thinking about this
Can you hold weight in both hands to maximize both?
wonderful commentating sir
bret thank you because I just started doing it on the same side i will be going back to the opposite ❤🎉
Thanks Bret!

Thank you! I've always had this question.
Doing them on a belt squat machine!!!. I am mind-blown right now.
Thanks for the info … 😊
just do both!
The opposite side is where I feel the most
Good to know!!!
Love this❤❤❤
Ty!!
We love studies!! Thanks for sharing
OHHHH good to know!!!
What about Bulgarian split squats???
What about split squats and step up all unilateral exercises?
🔥

Thanks ❤
I like to mix it up do a set each way
She has perfect legs butt
So many have quad dominant with no ham bump.

Can this be used for gluten balances?
I knew it 🎉

what if I hold the weight in both hands

Noice!
can you hold the kettlebell with both hands in front of you instead off to one side?
didn’t you do it the wrong way in your demo at the end though?
So would this apply to Bulgarians as well?
I noticed it’s harder on opposite hand and I read somewhere else it targets the medius more so I continue to do it
I have been holding on the same side this whole time and I’m trying to grow a peach 😅
So my barbell loaded heavy hits everything? Got it.
It works because your glutes have to stabilise your hip to counterbalance. If you cheat by holding onto a handle it negates this benefit.
🤔
You have a type O, you said opposite side is better for glute but comments on the video your show same side for glute look at what you post
Like to do single👍 gonna do more😉

Take a second careful listen. He talks about both glutes and hamstrings.

In what way does that contradict my comment?
Ummm...Just do both....You guys are work out warriors, be a warrior, just do it
True, do 50 one way and the other 50 the other way. 100 reps each leg, or 25/25 50 total each leg.
You could’ve said that a whole lot more simply. That was just ridiculous.
I hold 25lbs in both hands doing these. So am I hitting glutes and hams
Most effective for the glutes: tightest fitting leggings and best angle 📐 possible 😂
YHWH BLESS YOU IN THE MESSIAH YAHUSHA'S NAME!
What about both sides?

This seems like a slightly…minor thing to be studying? If this is somebody’s phd surely they could have come up with something more interesting lol
Rubbish. Read
