the spare bit holder stops u from biting down hard on small things with the pilers. A lot of people file the spare bit holder down or move it out the way, good video. I use this tool daily
Great tool. I just wish it had a saw and wire cutters that wouldn't crack all the time. Mine always crack under light use. I retired the tool when the cutters failed me during a trail side motorcycle repair and left me having to use my pocket knife to cut wire
Looks like a good tool to consider! I wish Gerber would get the carbide cutters an upgraded material. With the Leatherman you can scar the cutters up and they still work! With the Gerber not so much. For example in a tornado scenario, if this is all you have, you are at a disadvantage after the carbide cutters blow apart. Great video! Thanks for these reviews!
Sir, do you have the Center Drive Plus too? I was watching Ben from TX Tool Crib and he briefly said something about the two Center Drive Tools when he made the Dual Force video. Could you do a comparison on the Center Drive and Center Drive Plus, I didn't know the Plus even existed until Ben put it in his video. Keep them coming sir, you have a fantastic channel my friend.
Two downfalls is the carbide cutters and if you are trying to grab very small things you have to pull out the bit holder to really clamp down hard...other then that an excellent tool I've used mine about everyday for 4 years now still going strong
Those bit holders are tricky. I thought the pliers couldn't grip very well at first! Before the DualForce I have been using this in my work edc rotation and I really like it!
@@hvacbudget8600 You should be able to fit the one from the MP300 (I think) in exchange for the serrated knife/file and awl. Only downside is that it uses hard to find jigsaw blades. It's a cool tool overall, but bit of a mediocre toolset for what I need. Some of the design decisions seemed like an afterthought too, like the ruler and bit holder. There's also a plus version (that may have superceded this version) that comes with bits and replaces the serrated knife with scissors. Also will add the carbide cutters seem to have a habit of shattering in use.
i love the concept and simplicity, but wish there was a way to substitute the file for a simple saw blade, it would make a good tool for breaking down large game if i had a compact means to saw the pelvis without dulling the serrated blade a great deal.
Very true. What we need is something similar to the havalon blade exchanger. Check out the Havalon evolve multitool as well it might interest you. I reviewed that a month or so ago on the channel.

Thanks for the tip! Good to know this tool works well for you. It has a lot if great features.

The cutters are unfortunately not great!

Thank you. I agree about the cutters.

Thank you! There is actually the center drive plus and a new center drive with a seatbelt cutter. Excellent idea for review!

Gerber did a good job with this tool. I would like the tool to have a saw .... some hybrid between surge and center drive would be an ideal tool
Great idea!
Nice review, I like the concept but I am a Leatherman snob.
Yeah, I'm still keeping my Leatherman Surge.
Haha, I like other companies but I'm a Leatherman Loyalist!
I really like the toolset on this one, very rugged. Probably my favorite Gerber tool. Only thing i would do is add a saw.
Good observation. It would be really nice if Gerber had a blade exchanger for thie tool.

@@JackMoney Good idea! I may have to try that!
@@hvacbudget8600 it was from a 'Gerber Legend MP 800', got inspiration from someone on Reddit I believe

I think I seen in Home Depot 4 less than 80
That would be a great deal!
You can get the original center drive for $80 but it doesn’t come with any bits
