  • AHA, BHA, and PHA! Or as we like to say, “Ah-ha! Ba-ha! And Pa-ha!” 😜 We want to thank Naturium for sponsoring a portion of this video to share with you guys our thoughts on what seems like an endless selection of products with chemical exfoliants! It can still get pretty confusing, right?! This is why we decided to update our previous video on chemical exfoliation 101. 🤓 We’ll talk all about what they can do to our skin, what exfoliants we can find in our products, and which best suits specific skin types. And of course, it isn’t Beauty Within without product recs. 😉

Hi lovelies! We noticed some of you asking about why Fel would mention that Salicylic acid was banned in the EU so we thought we’d address it here. In our research, we discovered that salicylic acid is also used as a preservative and is commonly used in rinse-off hair care products and in nearly all cosmetic products for this very reason (excluding mouthwash, toothpaste, eyeliner, and mascara).
We also learned that SA has a close relation to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) which is what led to its ban around 2014 over concerns on salicylate poisoning and Reye’s syndrome in children and in young adults. Keep in mind that this is poisoning from oral intake of aspirin, not from topical usage. But it was interesting to hear that there were restrictions over this ingredient. (And as a brief tangent, that kind of explains those DIY remedies on using crushed aspirin pills to help your pimple, huh?) In 2018, the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety updated its opinion on SA and basically said it’s generally safe to use, given that they’re formulated at specific concentrations depending on what SA is being used for in the product.
As for topical usage, SA is considered safe when “used for purposes other than preservative at a concentration up to 3%” and doesn’t have an impact on buying and selling skincare products containing salicylic acid in the EU.

    ec.europa.eu/health/sites/health/files/scientific_committees/consumer_safety/docs/sccs_o_223.pdf
And on another fun fact on SA that didn’t make the cut: SA is technically not even considered a BHA! Apparently when looking at it in terms of chemical structure, SA doesn’t match the structure of true beta-hydroxy acids. Even the FDA states in their regulations for products containing salicylic acid that “from a chemist’s perspective, salicylic acid is not a true BHA.” But because cosmetic companies and brands often refer to SA as BHA, this is what stuck. We’ll spare you the technical terms that make SA different from true beta-hydroxy acids but we thought it was super cool to share!

Hope that clears some things up a little bit for you! As always, thank you so much for your amazing support! We love you to infinity and beyond! 💕

I exfoliated too much and it led to damage in my moisture barrier, my skin was super dry but at the same time I started having a lot of pimples because of the damage itself (the skin is weaker and that can result in infections and inflammation) I also had this weird pink marks on my cheeks (PIE). I stopped for a whole month and now the acne is completely gone and the pink marks are fading quickly. Just remember to be very gentle with your skin because you can actually end up causing more damage than good.

I’ve been switching between retinol and tlc fambroos glycolic every other night. in the morning i use a niacinimide serum. i have been breaking out tho and now i’m wondering if it’s too much and i should just cut it all out!! or stick with it bc results are coming... 🤔

In case any vegan is watching this and thinks, so why is The ordinary vegan if they use lactic acid?
Lactic acid has that name because can be extracted from the fermentation of lactose (the sugar in milk), BUT it is usually extracted from the fermentation of other sugars like cane sugar, beetroot or grapes for cosmetic use.

Glycolic acid is amazing! I use a 5% wash mixed with a gentle wash on a daily basis. Out of my entire toolkit, it's the one item that if missing, everything else falls apart or stops working. I've had acne for decades but my dermatologist recommended toolkit consists of: antibacterial cream (benzoyl peroxide at the moment), some retinol (differin at the moment), birth control, and spironolactone (at varying levels over the years). My skin care targets hyperpigmentation so I use licorice root serum, fermented rice essence, and SPF. You don't need to spend a ton on these basic ingredients, maybe shell out only for serums. Also, save your money for microneedling sessions at your dermatologist, honestly that's the only treatment worth your money for acne scars.

Yorcy Barrios I don’t use it LOL that’s kind of why I was asking you 😅 i’d like to give it a try. Are you supposed to use it twice a day? Or just once? And do you apply it daily? Or just a few days out of the week? Thank you again for your help 🙏🏼

@@velvetkitty8883 @Yorcy Barrios I apply it 3-4 times a week, at night. I use six drops for my face and four on my neck. It's really worked well for the dark marks that linger after acne.

    Hey beauties,
I am new to skin care routine and would like to more how I can use the products so that I can enhance my skin. My skin is dry skin (sometimes combination) with large pores, acnes (during periods) & sensitive. For my night routine, I use rose water toner followed by Klairs Vita C serum & Clinique 72-hours moisture surge moisturizer and finally using face shop collagen volume lifting eye cream (for my dark circles)
I would love if you advise me how I can carry my skin care routines (day & night)

I used Naturiam Niacinamide and Zink Serum and its alright, it kind of stings and is very sticky. Wouldnt buy again nor would I use any of there other product. I love niacinamide and have had much better feeling and confidence in my skin while using other products for the same price.
