  • This video is my recent trip on startup airline California Pacific Airlines who recently launched service out of Carlsbad, CA. The target market is to serve North San Diego county with reliable no-frills economy service to destinations such as Las Vegas and the Bay Area out of Carlsbad Airport (KCRQ). This particular trip was Carlsbad to Reno and back on an ex-Delta Erj-145. Had a wonderful experience with the staff and would definitely fly them again if I’m in the area. Enjoy the flight! Flight info below:
    Airline: California Pacific Airlines (4A)
    Flight #: 103
    Aircraft: Embraer 145 (N259JQ)
    Route: CRQ-RNO
    Seat: 17F (+ other windows)
    Date: 11/18/18

    Great footage, love all the different wing and engine views. Never heard of this airline before, must have been a fun one to try flying with. Stunning views at 6:19!

      That caught my eye as well. It's called Half Dome, in Yosemite National Park.

      Thanks! The little start-up airlines are alwasy fun to fly with. The crews always seem so welcoming. This was the first time I saw Yosemite National Park from the air. Stunning views indeed!

    Great video mate. LIKED :) I love the different camera views. And I also love the 145. Never heard of this airline before. Hope they will grow big.

      Abhijit Paul Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Sadly they’ve put a hold on operations this January. Hopefully it’s just temporary.

      Wish CP Air would stick around a while longer. They struggled so much to get to the point of flying.

    I flew this route (and 5 others) with them last month. They are really a great airline and it's really sad to see what happened. Hopefully they pull out and resume flights again.
    I was also hopping between windows too. I'm fairly sure I sat in every single seat on that airplane.

      KLMatSJC That’s awesome. Glad to meet someone else who utilizes all of the space in an empty plane. I really hope they bounce back too. They’ve put so much into the operations not to try again. From what I understand their EAS routes are still running.

      @@LoveJT8D I think N286SK is doing the EAS routes now. I was really lucky that I got to fly on that bird on actual Carlsbad routes. I think it only did it for a week.

      @@LoveJT8D Very disappointing. It is obvious that the only way we will get air service back into Carlsbad is when one of the major airlines steps in and starts service to Los Angeles. There is/was a high demand for this service. When United Express was flying the load factors were very high.

    ERJ 145? I C check those for a living. They're not a bad jet, just a little cramped. Hell of a reliable little thing. Believe CP got a few of them from us.

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety

      Yes this was a 145. That's awesome you get to work so closely with these birds. Other than being a little cramped I thing they're one of the more unique aircraft flying with the airlines. I usually try to book one over a 73G for the sake of something different.

    • @Jacksonkellyfreak
      @Jacksonkellyfreak Před 5 lety

      @@LoveJT8D They're actually not bad to work on but a few things are a nightmare. The seat tracks on the LRs like you flew on are a screw every inch. Which is no big deal but they have a nut on themk and it's pretty inaccessible. Not to mention they're 7 feet long lol. The XR has individual seat tracks.

  • @gordo1163

    I think this airline won't last, I think contour aviation should be using their ERJ 145's to fly routes instead of this airline. I don't think there is any demand to fly to Reno or San Jose from carlsbad. They should've been doing CRQ to SFO, CRQ to LAS, or even CRQ to PHX where they might actually be demand. I hope contour aviation might start operating out of CRQ

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety

      Gordo Agreed. I think it’s important to focus on high demand cities while in the start-up phase. Same thing when BizAir tried CRQ operations. They lost a lot of money on the CRQ to LAX route when most of the focus should have been on CRQ to LAS etc...

    Such a disgrace this airline shut down. I knew from the long run it would shut down, yet it was a nice airline for small charter flights to areas popular, yet densely flown too. I think they should’ve operated out of just SAN, cause Carlsbad is a small airport and city unheard of in my opinion. I believe Contor Aviation is a better SoCal charter airline than this.

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety

      Would love to try Contour at some point. CRQ does seem like a really tough market to fill. CPAir, BizAir, Cal Jet. I think all have started and then stopped in fairly short time frames. Cheaper airport fees but exposure is a huge battle.

      Good. Its not that their service was bad but its their decision making. I'm not surrprised that they went out of service by having service out of CRQ to reno and san jose

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 5 lety +1

      Gordo It’s the same fate as BizAir. They had CRQ-LAX at the same time doing CRQ-LAS and should have gone full throttle promoting the LAS route. Lost too much on the LAX route that saw almost no demand.
