A fun and easy whittle / wood carving - I tried to keep it around 10 minutes. Great beginner whittling project or just to relax and have fun.
Wood: Pine
Knife: Stanley 199 with Lenox Bi-Metal utility knife blade
Nice carve ….that’s what I will be doing after work tomorrow 👍
Thank you! Enjoy your whittling! 👍✌
@@WhittlingWoods I love those kind of carves , I’m not very good at eyes lol
Wow was that a great video!! I watched it twice the second time at half speed and it was even better! Thanks for posting. I am going to watch it again. I am working my wat thru your videos.
Thank you very much! Glad the video was helpful. 👍✌
I have an old Stanley like that used to be my dads how cool.😎
Yes, the 199 has been around quite some time.
Wow! That was great!
Thank you Stephanie! 👍✌
Gr8 idea in using one of the worlds sharpest knives and only a few bucks , no stropping just chuck another blade in or turn it around .Flipping lethal tho watch ur digits making sure where the blades gonna end up . Thanks for showing us your bravery and project , Greetings from Wales UK ,keep them plasters handy lol .
Thank you. I have had a few "scratches" over the years. 😅 Glad to have someone from Wales on board! 👍✌
Just about to start whittling and caught your tutorial. Firstly, I am impressed by your scar-free left hand! And that you are using a Stanley knife. i have been concerned about spending a lot of money on specialist knives whilst starting out in case o don't carry on with it. It's obvious that you don't need them to do a good carving. Thanks.
Thank you. You can accomplish quite a bit with the old Stanley. If I was just starting out, I would grab a Stanley 199 and one quality medium size carving knife with a straight edge that comes carving sharp out of the box. Do not worry about all the other options for now. 👍✌
now you made me want to get my utility knife out again , I have had good luck with that as well as my modified fish fileting knife , that's a lot of fun to use too ... that's besides all the expensive knives lol . sometimes keeping it simple is the best .
How true! Like you, I have quite a number of knives, but tend to use only a couple most of the time.
Thanks so much. I’m new to whittling and love these easy tutorials. Nice sharp knife, too.
Thanks much! Definitely keep your knives sharp.
Yea easy to follow!
Well done ..great job and video
Thank you Gene!
Great job! What a fUn little project. Thanks for the video!
Thank you Dennis, glad you liked it!
The fixed blade utility knives may not be all that sexy but they really are the very best. Excellent presentation!
So true. Thank you! 👍✌
Never seen carve with these Stanley knives before, guess you got to be careful the stop cuts don't go too deep, very little blade mass/body for resistance
you did a great job of this , good video work ...keep them coming .
Thanks Clare, I appreciate that!
Great carving, thank you
Thank you Tom!
Real nice simple and quick carving!
I like it👍
Thanks Darryl, I am glad you liked it ✌👍
Great tutorial!! I have many fixed blade carving knives, but my favorite carving knife is a 3 blade pocket knife I’ve reshaped the blades on to suit myself. Keep on keeping on!!
Thank you Carson! Yes, there is just something stratifying when you use a pocket knife!👍✌
Just got in to carving. Looking forward to trying this one. I’m sure it won’t look anything like yours though. Haha
Well done!
Thanks Phil. Enjoy you journey into wood carving/whittling!
The box blade !
A whittle ready box blade 😉. Thank you!👍✌
Vraiment magnifique mais une question, vous ne protégez pas vos doigts ???
Encore 👏👏👏👏👏
Merci. J'essaie de faire attention ! 👍✌
thanks
Thank you!
FRIGGIN SWEET!!!!!
Thanks Ron!
It sounded like the wood was real soft using the old Stanley knife.
The pine/spruce is easy cutting wood, but a bit fragile.
Thank you for the video. Do you strop your utility knife blade before carving?
Yes I strop before, during and after. Always strop! 👍✌
Have you modified the 199 as Lynn did?
Do you sharpen the blades as he does?
Enjoyed the tutorial!
No I did not see Lynn's method. I just extend a 4 notch blade in the 199 so it seats in the 2 notches on the inside, put it on some ceramic stones (medium, fine, ultrafine) and stropped it. Works real well for me.

@@usernamemykel Thanks for the video reference 👍
@@WhittlingWoods
You're welcome.
BTW - What brand/model blades are you using, please?
@@usernamemykel Lenox Gold - the blades have 4 notches so it allows for further extension

You go to fast for us beginers. You need to slow down and explain things
Thanks Kevin - I will keep that in mind. I have a few slower passed tutorials that may help. Check out: czcams.com/video/CY9ZbLV5AVU/video.html or czcams.com/video/gVpg9YiJ8Ko/video.html
