Thanks so much for your support!

This hits close to home, I added video a few years ago to my photo coverage and realized along the way I wanted my final product to be as high quality as I could organically we’ve found 3 people was where we were most efficient (tried 4 but there was no boost in quality).
We break it up a bit differently though both me and my partner shoot photo/video for most the day and then she prioritizes video and I prioritize photo on the big moments our third person is an assistant who mans the camera opposite of us and generally helps move gear around. That was the biggest hurdle for me a I think was the amount of gear video requires for how I wanted it to look and what I wanted the deliverables to be.
Thanks for the peek inside your method.
Before even watching the video i have to like it. Because anyone who has had to do photo and video for any occasion is a human being on another level. And deserves a big hug.
Hahaha Thanks, Manny!
Wow, such a right timing for this video! For my third year as a wedding photographer, I started to think about doing small video clips. Something like Taylor Jackson does. And now you published this video
Yea I've been inspired by Taylor Jackson too, I know he works with a 2nd shooter a lot of the time, but he does still seem to capture photo + video simultaneously by himself
Great video as always! My wife and I use the same strategy when booking weddings. It's been great to not only see my wife thrive in what she does, but also helps us communicate for the better! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for the inspiration. I just moved to a new city and didn't know how to find new clients. After this video I know I need to find a community and go from there.
I just wanna say that after watching your Josiah and Kaley video, a great emotional speech is so key in evoking emotion. Loved it and the first song that went along with the father speaking. I have my first big wedding tomorrow and fingers crossed that the speeches are amazing! Thanks for your content man. Very inspirational. 😉👍
I’m so happy that your subs numbers are getting higher. Keep up the great work, Eric 🤍
Super well said my man. Definitely face the same struggles in Landscape and Adventure story telling
Thanks so much, Karl!
I couldn't agree more! I normally use a team of 4 for wedding days when I get booked for both. Surprisingly enough, my Puerto Rico wedding was like your scenario 3 where they booked me for video and added on photo.
Awesome. Yeah, it's just so much less stressful, and you have so much more to work with for editing. It'll set you up for booking more work in the future at higher prices. :)
Great video thank you. I love how your vulnerability shows in your work and in what you teach. Thank you. I’m getting back into photography and would love to be a second. I’ve never done a wedding before
Thanks so much for watching! Keep working at it! You'll get your opportunity in no time. :)
love the video. i don't shoot photo and video at the same time but I shoot video solo and do same day edits as well during dinner...so i get the hustle - nice work bro!
Your relaxed say of sharing info is so satisfying. Keep it up.
As an upcoming photog, glad to be learning from you leaders.
Ah, thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Simple. Inspiring. To the point. Eric, you are the best!
Killing it
Means a lot, man. I'm gonna be in LA next month and would love to meet up! Just let me know!
Thank you, this has open up my wife and I eyes in making this reality instead of a fantasy.
Thanks for sharing this! Great tips! Also glad to catch you on the Insta Live thanks for answering my question!
Bro it aint easy. Ive done it a few times :D
I don't wish it upon anyone hahaha
Teppo Haapoja Watch your channel pretty good, I haven’t even done a wedding and I already don’t want to do both as I have enough experience to know this will be tough!! If it was a very small wedding, no reception included, I may take it on...... Maybe....
Word of the day: ubiquitous 🤯 leave it to Eric to teach us a new word in addition to dropping some great content 👏🏼👊🏼
Long story short...this is totally helpful right now! perfect timing! THANK YOU!
Yes! Awesome to hear. Thanks for watching!!
Great to see you speak live at Imaging and to personally meet you! Lovely work.
Thanks so much for coming to the class!!
Another great video. Your channel is fire dude 🔥
Also how cool is that hat Eric? And amen to that, do one thing well, better than two things half.
I do it 😉 hoping the z6 will up my game when it arrives
If you want to feel what I think. I think you got some great content, helpful for us that are beraly starting and great. Roll model to follow you got my respect 💪.. ya feel!
Thank you for this video😀
So good! I love this, I made the mistake of taking on a partner when I could have outsourced the work. This is more controllable and like you said you are able to offer different pricing options without devaluing yourself. Are you going to air your workshop online?
Awsome! Your an inspiration!!!
Hey man! All of these videos are great and good teaching.
Yep, definitely need at least one second shooter if you are going to attempt to shoot both video and stills. How we normally work it is I take lead on stills and my associate takes lead on video, but we both shoot video and stills. So he second shoots stills for me and I second shoot video for him. This takes so much pressure off. We make sure we are definitely concentrating on our main role but filling in with short clips and B Roll sequences, along side alternative angles for stills to give us more creative flexibility in the edit. It takes very careful planning so we both know what we are concentrating on and when but it's workable and gives us enough latitude to make sure everything is covered properly. We are lucky in that we both shoot with the same gear and we set up default in-camera presets so we can easily swap from stills to video. This also ensures our videos have the same feel as the stills and there isn't a jarring difference between the two products.
So true. Even shooting one or the other by yourself can be tough for a lot of weddings.
Totally. You'll be way less stressed, and the final product will book you more work at higher prices with more hands on deck! :) Thanks for watching!
Great video!
so cool
Thanks for the video! I offer photo and video as well, but I manage the expectations of the clients. So when they feel that photo's are more important than they get more photo's and like a highlight reel. And also vice versa. However it is easier to focus on one thing :)
Totally! I know that if you have this approach, and they're not expecting a full cinematic masterpiece, you can definitely make it happen, but if you go the route I teach here, you'll just be investing in your ability to make higher quality films and be able to charge more later when doing both. Thanks for watching, Gary!!
Great Vid! Thanks for the tips!
CZcams dad killin it as always
Beautiful.
“Let me feel your thoughts” hahaha 😂
You say that you are answering questions, but it feels like you are raising more questions... about my existence. I don't know if I'm in the right place or doing the right things now... but thanks! I think someone said something about unexamined live... something, something.
Thank you Eric
Eric Floberg... I'll remember the name. I've hit the bell.
Thanks for this! I'm a trash filmmaker and I won't be trash for long!
Dope video, you're always dropping 💎💎💎
Oh god I’m about to experience this! Lol but I have my Neice that’s recorded once with me and shes 15 but hey she wants to learn!
Awesome bro!! Great video! 👌
If you ever wonder if you're a hipster, just think try to remember if you've ever defined a coffee shop with industrial lightbulbs and brown wood as "cool".
Love the vids!
Love your video’s. Are you stil running? And i was was wondering how do you do your marketing. Perhaps a idea for a future video ? Have a nice one.
Thanks for watching!! I've haven't been running because of the new baby and being sick for weeks on end, but I plan on getting back to it very soon! Hoping to run 3 marathons this year. :) All my marketing is natural - no paid advertisements. I talk a bit about shooting for discounts here, which is one strategy I use: czcams.com/video/V_4IUMgR7xU/video.html

Your production quality is amazing
I wish I could have heard you while you were here in Nashville! I couldn't make the weekend at all smh
Ah, bummer! What are you doing March 17 & 18th...?? Haha no pressure, but would love to see you at the workshop!
I love your videos bro !
Thanks for all the tips daddy! As an 18yo beginner I will try to ask some more talented people to go and learn with them, I think its the best way to learn! Wish I could go see you in Chicago, but that's how life is 😜
Thanks for watching! Keep at it and find your crowd!
@@EricFloberg let's do this 💪💪
Definitely a helpful video
Dope Content! Hope to see more in 2020.
great video! Love your dance and rap intro haha
😂 thanks, Kien!
Good stuff mate!
One thing I struggle with (specially when the photographer is hired separately) is during the ceremonies we try not to get on each other's way... and OMG some people just have no consideration, they just get in front of you and don't even care I am there.
Great video Eric! I honestly don't see how people shoot both by themselves. How do you go about paying the videographers that work with you? Do they just get the whole amount or do you keep some of the profit?
Thanks for watching, Adrian! I pay second shooters $50/hour and lead shooters anywhere from $100/$150 an hour for just shooting, no editing. Jesse get's 70% of each booking if he shoots and edits and I get a 30% cut.
Thank you Eric . I find this piece timely. I do have a question, how do you work with associates who also have their brands to build?
I mean, having individual brands, there could be conflict of interest. So, how do you manage this?
Looking forward to your reply
Thanks for watching! Totally understand, great question. I don't have any expectation that my associates will be with me long term. I would love to see them use work that they did for me for their own brand and do it on their own, honestly. It's just something thats inherently temporary, and I've come to grips with that. But, as long as I'm keeping community close, there will always be candidates for associate positions. :)
Great video! Keep em coming 👊🏻👊🏻
Thank you!! I plan on making a ton more videos this off-season!
Eric Floberg they’re bad ass, and the humour lightens the mood! P.s. when are you coming to England?
@@LayNPlayTV No plans any time soon, but we'll see! If someone were to give me a reason or pay me for a job, I'd totally be down to go! ;)
Eric Floberg happy to put you up if you need somewhere to crash... and the coffee here 😍
@@LayNPlayTV Thanks so much!
Hi just one more comment haha! I really REALLY want to go to your workshop! I've been wanting to go since I found out you did workshops last June. I asked you on Instagram recently if you are planning to do another one and you said not right now. I know a ton of people would love to get to one that can't make it in March. Thanks for what you do and I hope to meet you at a workshop one day!!!
The way it's looking right now, this March one might be the only face-to-face workshop I do this year. I'm thinking about moving things to online, but I just don't know if/when that'll happen, so if you can make it in March, it would be a great time since I'm not sure how many more there will be in the future! Hope you can make it!!
@@EricFloberg Okay awesome thank you!!!!!
Thanks for the content dude!
Thanks for watching!!
Cool Insights.. what's the song playing in the end? 🎸🔊
ahhhh, you gonna tell us people when you're in town! I would've brought ya an overpriced coffee that was made with a chemistry set!
Okay, Networking is a great tool! I understand!
YUP! GOT TO!
How have you successfully surrounded yourself with such positive creative funny people!? I would love to know more about attracting better people in your life that fully connect with you. Thanks again!!!
Also on record, this is the best intro of 2020!!!
Back in the day, I was very persistent on going to every photographer/videographer meet up I could in my city, and I started to get to know everyone in the industry. As soon as I started building those relationships, we all started second shooting for one another, made facebook groups for referrals, and we all just got a lot closer. I know it's different these, days, but you could be that person that gets everyone connected! Plan a hangout or event and get the ball rolling! ;) Thanks for your kind words!
True...
You have my like 😁😉
You have my heart.
Great info! I’m a photographer and videographer based in Houston. Couples hire me for either photo or video if not both, and I hire another friend of mine that does also photo and video and I edit everything together.
30 seconds in the video and I’m a new subscriber
LIKE of course!
PAUSE....before I even hear what you got to say, let me just drop a HUGE thumbs up on that intro, THAT WAS DOOOOOOPE!!!!
People down here call me crazy and even greedy
For doing event
Multicam photo and video
By myself for events
But then cheques be looking nice
Glad it's not me alone
Thanks Eric. Great Meeting you at Imaging.
So great meeting you too, Tim! I appreciate you coming to the class!

@@prince2thethrone I got it from a boutique shop in Chicago, sorry man! The tag says "Grayers Athletics"
Marketing is my struggle what works best for you? I did video and photography once and never again :). It’s very stressful and risky.
Thumbs up for “great success”
I try it last year not an easy task,
So how do you edit so that both video and photos have a similar look?
I converted my go-to photo presets into LUTs for consistent colors across both. 🤘
what cameras do you shoot on?
In the description! ;)
Tell so many people about your videos. If I didn't have health issues I'd be trying to hard to get to one of your meets in Chicago. 😔
Ah, man. Sorry to hear about your health issues, brother. Shoot me a video DM on instagram and I'd love to chat a bit! I'll send a video reply! ;)
yo i was actually just wondering abouut this
Since cellphone cameras more advanced has it effected your business? I've actually experienced an event planner telling me that one of her bridal clients had a cellphone camera wedding.
Try watching that cellphone wedding on a 65inch 4k tv. Or print those images full blown. I doubt it's on the same level. It starts to show why we pick higher end productions. You cant tell on a 2inch screen. Or Facebook and Instagram Or 5ich if you do full screen on a phone. Lol
@@W93h3753mwesley You missed my point. I think it's ridiculous . I was turned down to shoot a wedding because the bride used cellphone pictures. If you watch some of my videos I'm all about the DSLR's . Cellphone pics are ok for snapshots. Not a nice wedding.
Hat man 🙋🏽♂️🙋🏽♂️. Doing it for the algorithm 😅
Check out Taylor Jackson’s hybrid coverage videos. He actually does show you how to shoot photo and video on the same wedding day. I started doing video only a couple of years back and this year I’m doing hybrid coverage as well. The hardest thing would be couples who want video coverage of the entire ceremony or an actual film with speeches etc. instead of a highlight video. Make sure you clarify what type of video they want and just hire someone if necessary.
What a cool intro . I love it but not at the same time.
Good advice 👍. I'm one of those! Lol
Hey Eric, I would love to join the team if you ever need a second shooter
How do you make it pay with 3 staff working? Are you paying them per job? Per hour worked? A standard wage?
Can you shoot video export it to jpeg? If not good, how about 4k? And do photo for group shot, I do it all the time, photo video and photobooth, our town is too small
yeeeeeee booiiiii
let's gooooooooooooo tons more videos coming soon!!
Come to România! Let's make a team at a traditional Romanian Wedding! :)
best youtube dad
The proudest.
You should film it in glorious 480p and then take screen shots...problem solved!
Damn so we gotta choose up and decide if we want to be a photographer or videographer and then hire or work with the other on every wedding ?
Hi Eric!!!
Hey there!!
Just had an issue where I shot a 1 hour event. I took photos and video, but the client was asking where are the rest of the photos? He expected me to have like hundreds of photos from the event that I was only there for an hour . And deliver a 1 min promotional video. Yeah...I need help.
Hey you said shoot himself us females are out here crushing the game too lol love your content though!!
I've done it by myself, I don't think I'll do it again ! lol
Hey Eric! I totally get what you're saying about creating community, I just have had a hard time going about it...How did you meet everybody in your city? how did you find those people and meetups that you're talking about? How did you second shoot for other photographers/videographers? Every person that I email never answers or turns me down...HELP!!!
Facebook. Seriously. Find the groups and start making connections. If you can't find the FB groups, start DMing people and see who's already in them, so you can get in too. If all else fails, start your own meetups and invite as many people you can, and ask them to invite other creatives too. You have to get off the couch and vulnerable, but it is 100% worth it.
You got me with the title. 😂🤦🏻♂️ I think it’s the worst. Hurts the client experience & the value of wedding photo & video. Glad you’re making this content! Keep killin it!
Thanks so much, Tom! Like I said, in specific circumstances where it's a small wedding, and super loose schedule, I think it's totally fine. If it's like 98% of all other weddings, your so much better off having more people there with you to help and make the best products for your clients. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Eric Floberg yeah I totally agree!
Bad boy hat🎩
Off topic but where did you get that hat????
