  • Just getting into the game? Maybe you're a trial player? Or perhaps an old content sync enjoyer. Think Dawntrail won't effect you? WRONG! Dawntrail has a lot that's going to effect players of all levels and I'm here to get you prepared for the inevitable. So take a load off even if you aren't at the point to take the vacation to the New World and let me help you point out what you should expect in the upcoming expansion.

    Just some things I missed *Updated about combo condensation below*:
    Dark Knight's Blood weapon is getting combined with Delirium. Good change as basically they were only pressed at the same time anyway, though not good news for Gposers.
    Monk during Brotherhood will be able to stack an additional 5 Chakra so that you are less likely to over cap (very nice).
    @eds7756 pointed out that there will be an updated visual queue for fights. There will be red glow signifier when boss fight messages appear to make them more easy to notice. If anyone has done Shinryu extreme then you will know what I am talking about.
    According to @tonyike8451 umbral ice phase MP generation will be determine the MP generation of ice spells. So basically all spells will generate the same amount of MP. So if you have three stacks of Umbral Ice any spell will be a full MP regain. So basically it won't affect BLM rotation at all, and might increase BLM damage over all.
    @maruisaiahnapa7381 Informs me that Bard will be getting Shadowbite at level 25, all the way down from level 72.
    So apparently the combo combination is not going to to affect your weaponskills but only on procced abilities. In my opinion this is kind of stupid. There are barely any abilities that this will effect and they are actually giving players the ability to bloat there hot bars even more as they are now allowing you separate abilities that were already combined into different buttons. Much sadge.

      Pictomancer and Viper start out at lvl 80, but no idea what part of their kits will be available to players if they end up in lower level dungeons.

    You probably wouldn't notice why Brd's inability to use songs without a target is such a pain in the ass unless you did savage/ultimate. Those fights have a lot more forced downtime phases compared to casual content and it makes brd song management really awkward

      Fair point. I do play Bard on A8S as I've said, and well I guess during the intermissions this would be useful.

    I can understand the removal of damaging gap closers from a gameplay balancing perspective, but dragoon's whole concept is that they do a big jump to hit their enemy from far away, so if there's any class that deserved to keep a damaging gap closer, it's that one. Removing it just feels wrong to me.

      Spineshatter dive can't catch a break... first they take away its stun effect and now it's just gone :(

      We still have one gap closer aoe jump, Dragonfire Dive. Jump and High Jump are not positional changes but are still damaging “jump” animations. So the job identity is still there.

      I love having a gap closer that causes damage as a WAR main who doesn't get those speedy boosts/dashes otherwise and cannon in my brain a tank barrelling into you would probably do a little damage! XD

      Honestly spineshatter felt weaker (visually and feel) anyways compared to Dragonfire dive and Stardiver, im not surprised its gone since they never really upgrade the animations

    The button condensation was never meant for combos, they have corrected the record on this in the most recent live letter. Think more of stuff like Dragoon's jump turning into mirage dive, or paladin's confiteor turning into blade combo (or fight or flight becoming goring blade) and so on and so forth.

      A shame we still don't have this option for 1-2-3(and 4 for certain classes like dragoon where 1 transforms after the 3). It would help reduce strain on those with physical disabilities and also just would be nice

      @@BaithNa I've just skimmed over the patch notes for the third time, I can't see what you're referring to, but I hope I'm wrong and that you're right and that there's an option for people to consolidate combos if they want to.

    A better tip to save money with a Fantasia (especially if you change gender/race): Make an alt with the changes you made (utilising Saved Appearances).

    I'm not the most effective player. Not ever done a savage. But I dislike them taking my Spineshatter dive and giving me a slide. Dragoons jump. Gimme a GCD jump.

    If we're talking about early game things I think need adjusted, it's to bring a few of the more exciting abilities down to lower levels. I've seen cases of people that just don't get into the game before they get to the more interesting parts of their kit and end up quiting. Bring a few of the core things that make certain jobs fun down to like the 30's or 40's and they might retain more players through the rest of it. This would also help those of us that do a lot of leveling roulettes to stay engaged when we pop into an ARR dungeon.

      Yes please!! They don't even need to do full reworks, just put weaker versions of core skills at low levels that then upgrade into the high level versions.

    Another thing which is not 100% definitive giving the media tour ain't final or reflecting the old game but it was seen during the media tour that they had checkpoint before dungeon bosses rather than after, eliminating the runback pretty big deal if it's happens if it's a sweeping change.

      @@ojosama Most likely it will be slowly rolled out to previous dungeons. I wouldn't be surprised if all previous dungeons still work the same as they have but are slowly retrofitted with each patch.

    I just finished the 3.0 MSQ a few days ago. I have been working on leveling Monk to play through the Stormblood MSQ, so I hope the changes don't throw me off to much. But if the new rotation is simpler with less timer management, I probably don't need to worry too much.

    i've been migrating to maining bard from being a shield healer/dancer main previously, and the untargeted songs seem like a very small thing, but is going to make savage and ultimate be so much more comfortable to do in terms of lining up your raid buffs with the rest of the party! a good example of this coming in handy is in UWU, where you'll be able to put up army's paeon a few seconds earlier in the transition from ifrit to titan, as well as setting it up before lahabrea to squeeze out that little bit of extra damage on him. you'll also be able to start mage's ballad during predation instead of having to wait until the active phase starts to keep your timers consistent with the party for the remainder of ultima. any encounter with a period of downtime coinciding with when you'd want to swap songs is really going to be simpler, since you won't have to make the decision of whether to start the next song early before the downtime, start it late after the downtime, or just skip using it there entirely. usually you'd set it up before the downtime period, especially if it's army's paeon, but then you'll be losing on song uptime after the downtime. now, you'll be able to just keep that timer running on like a continual cooldown, just like anyone else's raid buffs ^^

    Black mage mp is based on which level of umbra ice you are in when you cast an ice spell or umbra soul. At 3 stacks you generate Max MP for 1 ice spell so blm won't be a problem

    Not sure if this is added to the early game, but there is a new visual aid for fights. You know sometimes there is a message that'll appear to let you know about an upcoming mechanic? Yeah me neither, because they are so easily missed. Well now there is an new visual with like a red glow that will accompany it to help people notice it better. Still not sure if I'll be noticing them, but with the combo condensing maybe I will be able to pay more attention to what's happening on screen instead of my hotbar.

    The glasses options being limited to the fashion accessories is really disappointing. I like to use the elegant rimless glasses (as they are the only good looking pair on my character imo) on my crafting and scholar glams and was hoping I could actually use them on my other ones. Shame. Hope they eventually add all the glasses models to the slot.

      Well we still don't gave the teddy bear that was used to show how fashion accessories would work... and this was in a liveletter before endwalker dropped or whenever fashion accessories was first talked about in a liveletter. Granted they're probably gonna prioritize making more glasses for this anyway

    Kind of really like AST trading pure randomness for set hands. Any time I go back to it the card buff mechanic feels interesting, but knowing where to throw the cards is one of the learning points and the cards being totally random feels like it doesn't help with that. Though I also kind of like the idea of taking a hand and planning the cards you want to play from that.

    Maybe it's just be but I am getting pretty sick and tired of staring at my own and the enemies' statuses, so I'm really happy with the monk change. Like it's all and good on like non stress fights, but anytime I have to power up the braincells my rotation goes to absolute crap. Like I don't mess it up with Sam because I have the visual stickers telling me which part of my rotation I am in so Monk getting that new gauge is going to be great! Just my opinion.

    I tried wrapping my brain around something mentioned in the preliminary patch notes about quests that require phrases to be said in /say.
    I can't tell if their being more lenient on them or not. Like if you miss a capitalization or punctuation you have to type it out again.
    Clarification would be nice.

    The changes to monk are a reason for me to play it. I love the idea of monk but i just can't bring myself to deal with staring at the UI to figure out what button i should be pressing.
    The Gauge and combo buttons changes are definitely a high point for me and i'm going to try it 100%.

    They won't consolidate the 1-2-3 combos into 1-1-1 auto combos. Not even as an option. The consolidation will happen for follow-up actions like mirage dive or the monk's earth/wind/fire replies.
    The confusion came about because of vague language and the fact that both Viper and Pictomancer both have something like auto combos. Old jobs will retain their 1-2-3. Sadly.

    There's a very real possibility that NIN will have no unlock whatsoever at lvl 60, with the removal of Huraijin and seemingly nothing replacing it.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention the other BRD changes, like getting a pre-Shadowbite AoE proc skill at level 25 (almost 50 levels before you learn Shadowbite), merging the Straight Shot and Shadowbite Ready procs, or turning Pitch Perfect into an AoE attack with falloff. I'm glad those changes are coming because it improves the job's versatility and introduces us to its staple mechanics earlier on.
    I wish they also restored Sidewinder's scaling damage to the number of DoTs on the target or increased the songs' party buffs by 1-2%, but as it stands the current changes will make the job just a lot more fun to play!

      ​@@ojosamaiirc they're going to revamp the skill itself from level 52, rather than give it an AoE improvement at 90+. Also, the name for the pre-Shadowbite skill I mentioned is Wide Volley!

    On Blm and Mp regain. It's based on how much ice you have 3 stacks of ice = 9999 mp, 2 stacks 6000, 1 is 3000. You only need to cast 1 ice spell after casting bliz 3 to get into ice and ice 4 fills you up and you apply thunder. The new blm is gonna be fun till 7.2 when they give us back Ice paradox lol

    I have played every version of Astro, I don’t understand why some people have a hard time using cards while healing it’s weird.
    To me it feels like players tunnel to hard on cards that they forget about healing

    Removing damage from gap closers is great. One thing I hate in every MMO I play is rotations that require me to use every useful ability I have to squeeze out every ounce of damage in a rotation. Honestly sucks.
    Leave utility to utility..
    Also I hated Astro cards after the novelty wore off. It's a ridiculous APM increase that never ends for a little gain. I just wrote the job off entirely and played the other healers.

    If there is an AOE trick attack (I'm thinking the Mug upgrade might do this since it looks like an AOE), NIN getting AOE suiton via Huton is very good, because under TCJ, currently you either cast Doton which is a little superfluous, or you case Huton, which is pointless. An AOE trick attack would make using TCJ on CD on AOE pulls a lot less janky feeling.

    I know I am a Viera so I'm not a Miqo and have little weigh in but...but...the teeth are rarely going to be seen let's be honest. I'd see it being more of an issue for gposing pros but they have their ways to make it look how they want so I think it felt like a huge complaint that is a non-issue in the long run.
    I'm looking forward to the new adventure and can't believe we are already fast arriving!

    they need to remove damage from all movement skills entirely, but keep some of their animations like drg spineshatter dive.
    As a drk main I love it's new dash being a cool magical animation.
    I will miss ninja huton management, just wish they have armor crush refresh for it same level you got it, was dumb wasting a mudra lower levels to refresh it.
    I agree with monk, not a main, was bad at buff/debuff upkeep but kept things engaging still.
    The option to make actions be same button, that sadly is only for certain abilities that will have a follow up action. It won't be for GCD combos like most thought.
    Most smns I've seen rarely used rez, often having to tell them to use it and getting ignored then party wipes lol.
    Even encountered some smn not even know they've had it since LV12 either.

    I saw a post from Peridot( BLM from one of world race teams) saying blm aoe spells aren't getting well potency wise so the optimal is to flare-flare-free thunder/foul-transpose-freeze-free thunder/foul-transpose and repeat

    Hey, nice video. Just wanna make a comment on the AST section though. As an AST main since SB when i started, I think people are hyperfocusing on the RNG thing. its more of a skill expression, a "you got THIS card, what will you do?". I think the ShBr version of AST with some of the EW tweaks (specifically Astrodyne and the EW Divination change, but keeping sleeve draw and redraw charges from ShBr) would have been the best compromise. You could mitigate the RNG with job knowledge in ShBr where as getting 3 seals in EW rarely mattered and IMO often felt like a waste of time (since 2 got you mana regen) as AST personal DPS is low AF anyways and you gained more by buffing the dps of others.
    Personally im glad they decided to make cards unique again but i am disappointed that 3 of the new card effects are just more healing buttons instead of buff type utility like crit buff or mana regen.     I am pretty sure they are adding a multi target trick attack styled attack for ninja. However I am not sure at what level it will be implemented. It would be dumb if you didn’t get it at the same level that you unlock your final sign, because yeah Huton will be absolutely useless until you get that ability, unless for some reason it’s damage it super good which I doubt.

    I’m a dragoon main and I’m shocked to hear anyone excited about the removal of spineshatter dive… removing a jump the most iconic move in the dragoon kit and replacing it with a dash is just lame and feels bad. It’s fun to weave in spine shatter, it’s instant mobility etc.
    The gap closing dashes and everything is just taking from its identity, gameplay, and further homogenizing the class into others and it sucks

    Honestly as a pc controller player the combo thing is the thing I’m most excited for, I like being able to condense some with limited buttons I can use and I noticed no problem with it in pvp already

      You know this is NOT how its working right? It was already stated in Multiple Media Tour Videos thst this System is NOT like PVP. You cant put your 1,2,3 Combo into 1 Button.

      @@DantoriusD thank you for letting me know, I have been selective on what I consume from media tours and other content prior to the release since the hype before a dlc or game release is usually when spoilers come out hard in the form of leaks. Still if what they do cuts down on button bloat it’s a win in my book since my keys are at a premium with some classes. Hopefully it won’t introduce problems to run savage and other content but we will see. I have heard that however it’s implemented, it’s optional so it’ll not be intrusive at least.

      @@ZelosDraconis oh in terms of Spoiler you can a tually Consume everything from Media Tours. They usually make sure you dont have any Spoiler. They even remove most of the NPCs in the Media Tour Build. Only the First Area and the First Dungeon is shown in the Media Tour but without any Story Cutscenes so if you call that also as a Spoiler then jeah maybe a small Spoiler here and there. May i ask you which Class you Main? Since im a Controller Player myself and also a Savage/Ultimate Raider and i dont think you have that much of Button bloat aside of AST but he will be cut down in some Skills. Do you make use of Double Cross Hotbars? Because you have easy access to 32+ Slots on your Hotbar which in most cases are way more than you need for any Class.

      @@DantoriusD I mained reaper for this last savage tier and do use cross hot bar but for dawntrail I’m switching to redmage. My concern stems from new abilities coming. For most of my jobs my bars are pretty full because I use a macro to make most of my menuing easier so the 31 buttons I have left fill up. For paladin as an example I needed to set up the both triggers combo for an extra button (which I put divine veil on) but unless new abilities are all going to improve existing buttons then there could develop problems with some other jobs that are tight as well

      @@ZelosDraconis oh there arent that much more Skills for Dantrail. Most of the New Skills are just flat Upgrades for existing skills or Combo upgrades that used the same button but it just Changed line the RDM Melee Combo Finisher. So far its exactly line the previous Expansions. Maybe 1 or 2 more buttons for some Jobs but then they also usually losing some Buttons.

    Ninja does get aoe trick, trick attack upgrades to kunai's bane at level 92, it becomes aoe and doesn't have the positional. Now you would huton a enemy group and apply kunais bane to them for that sweet extra dps.

      Yeah but that doesn’t effect the early game though. So Huton is basically useless until 92.

    I hope the animations for the gap closers get adjustments. Going from jumps/flips to just a forward dash feels bad, especially on DRG. DRG's should be a dive or something just no damage.

    If you like using gapclosers as gapclosers why not just save one charge? I doubt that ~150 potency is going to make a more meaningful difference than mobility.
    You said it yourself, its not how the game is meant to be played and is another example of players optimizing the fun out of everything

    i was really hopeing that if nothing else we would get a better leveling experience for summoner in dt. the job is already feels undercooked at max level and the fact that you dont get the only fun job mechanic until level 86 is astounding to me lol. and then not getting our elemental rite upgrades until lvl 80 so were essentially spamming ruin from 1-80 is so stupid. not even mentioning that even using some of the egi spells is a dps loss over just normal ruin 3 spam is crazy. i cant imaging starting this job from arr to EW without a job boost because omg lol. but at least were getting an upgrade to fester in dt right, every summoners favorite ability lol😂

      It comes down to the fact it shares xp with sch, and the devs have mentioned it before. It's actually the main reason they got rid of customizable attribute points. They've admitted they messed up with that choice and would need to comepltly rework a lot of the game's core systems to separate them. I know when it comes to skills and abilities it's a little different but I wouldn't doubt they tied their hands A LOT when it comes to sum and sch.

    I'm still a new player and currently on SHB. FFXIV is super fun, but damn, is it overwhelming with the amount of content. Does anyone have any advice on how to enjoy this game more, without worring about what everybody else is doing?

      There’s no wrong way to play! Don’t worry about doing everything at once, raids and side quests can be done anytime and you’ll still get the lore.
      We all screw up, and half the time in duty finder people are getting put into fights they haven’t done in forever. I stressed so much and then I realized literally no one else cares lol, we’re all just doing whatever and having fun.
      Another thing I’ve done is turn off the names of other players in character config. I did it a few months ago, I have it set to where I can see my friends and anyone I’m in a party or alliance with. It feels sooooo much less overwhelming in crowded areas, and makes me feel like I *am* the warrior of light and not just one of thousands.
      If there’s anything else I promise you that it will be okay! The community really is supportive. 😊

Considering there's no pressure to do all bits of content as quickly as possible, I should really just take my time if that's the case. The raids and savage ones have caught my eye in particular, but the story has kept me engaged too!
      It's funny, cause I hate screwing up too, so I do give it my all whenever I play. However, I shortly realised that probably only 10 -15% are raging players, while the rest are all chill (despite being pro players).
      Like you, I also turned off everyone's names except for friends and alliance members and it automatically made the game feel less daunting. :) Some people say it's a good idea to set goals when you're playing the game. That way when you log in, you have something to work towards to. Would you say an approach like that, has helped you?
      All in all, I plan to stick with this game for the foreseeable future. 😊

      I hope they remove it in 8.0 cause Rez holding SMN and RDM back in potential. With Rez they never can put these 2 on par with BLM just jecause of the "Utility" and im pretty sure just jecause of that Picto will be way up ahead of these 2 in Terms of DPS.

      @@DantoriusD Honestly that's just fine for me as someone who loves Red Mage. It still feels like the class who's both Black and White Mage with Duelist energy which is why I enjoy having the utility of Rezzing in emergencies.
      Then again I have been a healer main for majority of the game. So playing Red Mage I can off-heals with more damage than a healer, and I get the same joy from current Paladin. I say let Picto and Black Mage be the Big Deeps type while keeping Summoner and Red Mage as the Utility Deeps. Gives some spice between the classes.
      I'm also that sort of weirdo who WILL main a healer build with Blue Mage. XD
      I mean. We do have an issue of all classes feeling too samey. So variety of support sub-type and more "selfish" subtype would be good.

    So for blm until you get blizzard 4 you're gonna not be able to fully fill mana because blizzard 4 does fill fully mana because it give you 3 umbral hearts which will fully fill your mana
    Bard still does damage with songs, it just means that now you don't have to have an enemy present to play a song meaning that you can keep your songs rolling and never have to worry about missing a song and now buffs won't screw up because you couldn't sing for a bit

    I hate the collabs. Seriously. In Germany or generally Europe you are just screwed. It's always JP, Asia or US. Oh and if they extend to a company that does work in Europe it Usually has like 2 stores ilon the entire continent. Legit they Claimed Gong Cha would be in Europe too, Gong Cha has literally 2 stores currently on the entire frickin continent. It's tiring, especially since these codes are so overpriced online.

    I'll be honest though... I've read a lot online about how people get mad a casual players not understanding things like "burst phase" in casual content. Things like that don't matter until you get to end game content like savage and ultimate raids. Sometimes I think that players forget that the VAST majority of players are casual players that just enjoy the story and only dabble in other content.
    I kinda stand in between casual and "serious" I dabble more than casual and understand most lingo and strats, even use them, but I don't live in end game content after completing msq.
    I will say there will be an adjustment to rotations now that some gap closers no longer deal damage, which at first seems lame, but they made adjustments to compensate for it so it'll just be a very small learning curve.

    While it's on my mind, I've been playing AST since Stormblood, this card rework is a nice balance between the original card system and it's current one. Each card has a buff/mit/dmg in one pull and either a lady or lord.
    How it looks to be working out is that you have enough cards to buff your entire party except yourself but the guaranteed lord or lady makes up for that as a free lady gives you more time to dps and a lord gives you more dps. Specifically, draw now gives you 4 options at once instead of one card whose seal might be good for you or might not.
    We will never see the days of giving an arrow to blm to force agro off the tank with all their new rapid fire destruction, but it will be more interesting than "these cards all buff everyone's damage by a tickle, that's it". I'm super excited for the rework, I'll be honest.
