      Are you kidding? Mexico would probably do everything possible to block such a movie... The Mexican government. long ago rewrote Mexican history leaving out the African slave population, and historical contributions... Slavery was totally abolished in Mex. by 1829... Abolishment began in 1821 but was not officially recognized until 1829 after Vicente Guerrero's army chased the spaniards out of Mexico, and into Texas, and Colorado where they regrouped, and eventually returned to Mexico with a bullshit meeting for peace with president Guerrero at which time the motherfuckers murdered him, and retook control... They retook control but did not reinstate slavery... They pretended to follow President Guerrero's plan of "Iguala" which was suppose to mean ALL MEXICANS WERE IQUAL UNDER THE LAW... The caste system was suppose to have been completely done away with... There would be no more caste system labels such as "Bozales" aka African born slaves, "Zambos" aka a person of mixed Indigenous/African blood, "Torno Atras" aka a throwback or someone who had parents that looked more spanish or Indigenous but was born a throwback or more African looking.... The white ruling government of the 1830's wanted all Mexicans to believe that EVERYONE born in Mexico was just "Mexican" without regard to skin color... This was one way they managed to leave out the African heritage of Mex.... No one called themselves "Afro Mexicano" or Indigena Mexicano, or euro Mexicano... Everyone just called themselves Mexicano or Mexican... As time went on, colonial history of slavery was blurred, which is exactly what the Mexican white gov. wanted..... Fast forward 2019, the African heritage of Mexico hides under 500 years of mixing blood, and LIES !

    Claiming to be a member of a royal family from Gabon (Central African country), Yanga became the leader of a band of slaves near Veracruz around 1570. While escaping into the mountains, he and his companions built a small free colony. For over 30 years it grew, surviving in part by capturing the caravans that brought goods back to Veracruz. However, in 1609 the decision was taken by the colonial government to put an end to this adventure.

      @@salingstuff8085 I am more than glad and honored to have Aztec and black kings blood running through me that I will pass on to my future kids . As a person who lived in Mexico I can say that it’s different for most since we don’t really see race like that tbh if you are Mexican you are Mexican and if you are American you are American etc etc where as in the us for example there is a such thing as “African Americans” and if let’s say you were black in Mexico you would just be Mexican not a African Mexican. Of course there are the Afro Mexicans but they have that name because of their far back culture and not because of how they look necessarily. With all that being said . White skin toned Mexicans do have more opportunities then others but it’s definitely not a problem to where black skin tones Mexicans feel degraded by any means

    There are still so few resources pertaining to Mexico’s African history but it was so much harder trying to seek out this type of information on my own way back when I started my learning process 15 years ago so I am grateful for your effort to share this information.
    Most people falsely believe that Mexicans are solely Mestizos (Spanish-Indigenous). We certainly are never formally taught that Mexico has Black/African history & it was only recently that Afro-Mexicans were acknowledged as a distinct racial/ethnic group which is crucial for allowing the community to advocate for itself & receive legal protections.

    great videos I know you will get even more views once you continue the series, it's just that CZcams tends to inadvertently punish people who produce a few very high quality videos like you and reward those who post tons of average ones. just stick with it, get in contact with other animation channels they could learn a lot from you!

    • @heroesofcolor
      @heroesofcolor  Před 4 lety +4

      Hi Tiara, the Spanish Crown issued a Royal Decree in San Basilio de Palenque in 1691. San Lorenzo de Los Negros pre-dates that. But, you are right in mentioning that Yanga's town should have said that it was "among the first", as I am now learning that South America has had other successful revolts that pre-date Yanga's independence.

    It’s sad that Mexico didn’t acknowledge the impact that Afro-Americans had on New Spains’ (modern day Mexico) culture growth until 1992. It was a hidden heritage until that year and even to this day, this side of Mexico’s history is not vastly well known.
