Still blows my mind how the concept of cordyceps mindcontroling ants gets used for the Pokemon, Paras and Parasect.
You know what’s worse? Cordyceps controls the ant’s muscles and not its brain

Was gonna say this is definitely top 5 creepy thumbnails from Casual. That close up on the ant head just triggers that “NIGHTMARE. NIGHTMARE. NIGHTMARE.” part of me.
To be fair the intro video was cut short and the spider got a face full of acid right after
that ant that wears it's victim's body as armor reminds me of a D&D monster, i forget which edition it exists in, who's a demon that impales it's enemies on spikes that stick out of it's back. Also it's on fire.
If memory serves, there's a super boss from Monster Hunter that does something similar as well. It's a dragon that got pissed at humans for killing monsters and using their bodies as weapons and armor, so it turned the tables and started killing humans and using their bodies as armor (or discarding their bodies and using their armor for itself).

To clarify, Maxis now is not the same company as it was before. EA essentially did the same thing to them as they did to Visceral Games and ran Maxis to the ground, resulting in multiple studio closures and laying off virtually all of the original staff. A new studio was opened under the Maxis name but for many the name is the only thing EA's Maxis has in common with their predecessor.

I believe Cordycepts will sometime get the ant to stay above a colony so that when it releases spores they fall down on the colony to infect more. So while it doesn't get the ant to bite it's own kind it accurately recreates the spores sections from The Last of Us Part 1.
In turn, ants having learned this, will pick up the infected ant, and throw it away.
@@SakuraAvalon I'm guessing the ants that do that are real troopers cuz they risk getting infected too, right? But it also mirrors how most infected are dealt with in media. "Oh you got bit? Here's the door, start walking" or just buckshot and/or express cremation.

People hate on DDT, but those people didn't have to contend with the pre-DDT mosquito populations and their diseases. One hippy's book basically tanked what could have been the greatest weapon against insect-borne diseases known to man. But I'm sure the Africans appreciate their nets.
"One hippy's book" Yeah, because it is not like DDT caused egg thinning and population decline in multiple North American and European bird of prey species, bioaccumulates on both animals and people, magnifies through the food chain, and it is likely a carcinogen to us humans.
People had high DDT concentrations on their blood. Medical tests even found significant concentrations of it in human breast milk, with South African mothers' milk containing high levels of DDT and DDE. And there is also some evidence of neurological abnormalities on babies because of said high DDT levels.
There are still DDT residues present in European soils despite having been banned for many years and some people still have traces of it on their bodies, that shit is a nightmare to get rid of.
