There's something special about Esperanza. She can reinvent herself and make it even better. This is leading edge: syncopated, melodic, scary. Hold on as it takes a while to get it but when you do then you just can't believe it. I went to the gig in Paris and half understood, now I totally understand and love her and music to bits
If we haven't noticed, Esperanza is redefining music and will become as important to its evolution as Charlie Parker and Dizzy were! Just my opinion... But mark my words.
+Bob Rutkas Actually for me this new stuff is completely in line with the older stuff and shows a cool development. This could also be some electrified stuff from "Radio Music Society"? Anyway super nice stuff. And as much as I admire Jacob Collier I think inventing such nice pieces is still ahead of him...
SvenHild I agree... if you only take into account what he has already done! He is currently working on an album, I can't wait to see what he does when he's not covering other people :D
I went to a Jazz festival on acid and Esperanza closed the show performing his recent music . she seemed like an acid goddes speaking the truth hmm good memories
I think that if you lived on a desert island and this album was food, it would be possible to live on it. It is clever, entertaining, sexy, funky, jazzy, rocky, spiritual, sensual etc. Almost everything you could want out of rhythm and twelve notes!!!
It is like eating the best meal you ever had. I think that its her finest album so far. I love some of her other albums but I really think that this is truly great. If it means anything, I was told by a good source that the album was played to David Bowie and he liked it too! We are/were in good company.
I think the fretless makes her transition to the upright more seamless. .....but who knows what goes on in the mind of a genius. The audience is always stunned....
See this pretty girl? Watch this pretty girl flow Lone ranger I see you like the view Wandering from a distance with my pretty feet can do Come break me Don't march up In your discerning shoes I see right through the cooler all around your blowing fuse So let loose The mountain How we dance Good lava we all know you wanna See this pretty girl flow You wanna With this pretty girl flow Good lava You stranger One day I gonna be Planting your own flattered, conquered fear and fantasy Right on me With this pretty girl flow Promise not to linger if I leave and let you climb Inside My mountain How we dance Good lava We all know you wanna See this pretty girl flow You wanna With this pretty girl flow You wanna See this pretty girl flow You wanna With this pretty girl flow Good lava How we dance Good lava We all know you wanna
This is good and I can hear 70's King Crimson , Funkadelic as well as Hendrix in it. She is very talented .It is totally different to her first record. That is a good thing. Some people make the same record over and over again.
No point to compare Charlie parker and Esperanza, two different people I love them both, however the way she plays bass and sing !!! that's another matter. Of course lot's of great influences but first of all big imagination and creativity, no question Love it !!!
Did Jaco Pastorius and Tania Maria "play pattycake" and create this phenom? I am feeling this no bordered genius...she is straight renaissance! Is that an Ampeg Fliptop she DI-ing out of? Daaaam!
Very good stuff and, yes, I can hear Fripp (thankfully not Frippertronics which I find tedious) and Hendrix. Anyone else hear Living Colour? She'd be well worth going to see. Dunno if she gets over to the UK much.
Hendrix meets 70's King Crimson. She's as beautiful as a glowing star and she sings over 5-string fretless bass grooves. If you ever hear she makes amazing apple pies, please give me a call! ^^ That soundman though... He should be fired for forgetting about her bass' volume at the beginning. But hey, I suppose he was just in awe cause she's way too sexy to be true. It's like if Sasha Grey played the bass like Jaco.
flyversusfly76 You are right I do not have to enjoy it for it to be considered great music. I guess I should not have made the comment if I thought it would offend others. To be quite honest I really wish I could enjoy it because I enjoy all of Esperanza's other music. I can be a bit sarcastic at times so my comment was truly not intended to offend. I will give this track another try to see if it grows on me.
+ralph ellison Ah, i see. sometimes I just need to see where someone is coming from. There are disharmonic tendencies in this song and I guess it's harder to appreciate.
flyversusfly76 What do you think about this side of Esperanza, to you believe this style of expressing herself is how she longed to express herself or simply a project that might open up a new way of seeing herself?
+ralph ellison I think it's beautifully crafted, well preformed, and totally not my kind of thing.so i get were your coming from.people have things to work though.and I'm sure many will enjoy this. I'll what to see what's next.
She's playing a fretless and singing, now that's major badassery.
+forkedtongue7 MAJORRR !!!!!!!!!!!!!
no kidding. it's superhuman.
yes sir, and she only looks down on the axe every once in while... and spot on the whole time. Jaco, if he were still alive, may have met his match.
She's amazing
Fretless FIVE string, and singing, all in an odd time signature!

mannnn id love to see her live
Just discovered this. Absolute joy to listen to her hi res on Apple with dac

+Bob Rutkas
Her, along with our lord and saviour Jacob Collier :D
+Bob Rutkas Check the band Battles if you haven’t, I think they’re up to something significant too.
+Bob Rutkas Actually for me this new stuff is completely in line with the older stuff and shows a cool development. This could also be some electrified stuff from "Radio Music Society"? +Bob Rutkas I agree with you, but no one's greater than Charlie Parker. Bird Lives!
It's absolutely amazing how this woman can perform on stage.. sending all the energy of her music . She do it in every single presentation.
I went to a Jazz festival on acid and Esperanza closed the show performing his recent music . she seemed like an acid goddes speaking the truth hmm good memories
This is completely bad ass...
The song reminds me of King Crimson, and I like it! :D obviously ;)
+giulianovideo I thought that too. Robert Fripp teaches so perhaps this guitarist was as student or admirer of Fripp.
You're right...I thought at first it resembled Gentle Giant and a bit of King Crimson.
Yes she is playing a 5 string unmarked fretless and singing and its in an odd time signature. Not many can do that.
The music really reminds me on 70`s King Crimson..What a brave move, Esperanza :)
Next step should be tour with Primus.
Great singer and bass player, the amazing Esperanza
Wonderous swirling gush of Black Gold.
takes me on a musical journey floating out of this hemisphere. this fusion is captivating. I get it Emily😁
omg ..how couldn't I fall in love with ya ..play and sing that way..heaven must be like that
Just wonderful music.Esperanza is fantastic. The band is fantastic. Good lava indeed.
I need this album in my life right now!!
Go get it! It's a MASTERPIECE!!!!!
Kandelise Kandle I checked it out of my local library today!
I think that if you lived on a desert island and this album was food, it would be possible to live on it. It is clever, entertaining, sexy, funky, jazzy, rocky, spiritual, sensual etc. Almost everything you could want out of rhythm and twelve notes!!!
+Kandelise Kandle I agree! This album has so many flavors that one would simply have to submit to its intoxicating sounds!
It is like eating the best meal you ever had. I think that its her finest album so far. I love some of her other albums but I really think that this is truly great. If it means anything, I was told by a good source that the album was played to David Bowie and he liked it too! We are/were in good company.
Oh baby, this just might be my favorite song from her upcoming studio release...KEEP 'EM COMING, ESPERANZA!!!
:-D
ULTRA Modern Wonderful my Dear Congrats... TOP Esperanza Spalding
She is awesome! I love her music and artistry
Incredible - can't wait to see this live in Melbs!
March 4, I want so much this album!! The singles so far are amazing!! Loved this!!!
haha the soundman forgot to turn her bass up because her entry was so amazing and sudden.
I think the fretless makes her transition to the upright more seamless. .....but who knows what goes on in the mind of a genius. The audience is always stunned....
past the point of obsession.. and loving the Lava
See this pretty girl?
Watch this pretty girl flow
Lone ranger
I see you like the view
Wandering from a distance with my pretty feet can do
Come break me
Don't march up
In your discerning shoes
I see right through the cooler all around your blowing fuse
So let loose
The mountain
How we dance
Good lava we all know you wanna
See this pretty girl flow
You wanna
With this pretty girl flow
Good lava
You stranger
One day I gonna be
Planting your own flattered, conquered fear and fantasy
Right on me
With this pretty girl flow
Promise not to linger if I leave and let you climb
Inside
My mountain
How we dance
Good lava
We all know you wanna
See this pretty girl flow
You wanna
With this pretty girl flow
You wanna
See this pretty girl flow
You wanna
With this pretty girl flow
Good lava
How we dance
Good lava
We all know you wanna
The character of Emily is swallowing me helplessly into her hot lava! I'm addicted.
To me it’s like Joni’s Lights and Sound band for the next generation.
so amazing! dynamic... flow
Man, so effortless!
This is good and I can hear 70's King Crimson , Funkadelic as well as Hendrix in it. She is very talented .It is totally different to her first record. That is a good thing. Some people make the same record over and over again.
she's more than talented. she's an artist on her own account. she's not the little girl trying to imitate her heroes. she's an autonomous artsist.
I love her!! :*
FANFREKINTASTIC!!!!
she's is a fucking genius and i adore her immensely.
Great!
JONI MITCHELL MEETS KING CRIMSON
una bocanada de aire fresco ...aante tanta polucion musical !!
No point to compare Charlie parker and Esperanza, two different people I love them both, however the way she plays bass and sing !!! that's another matter. Of course lot's of great influences but first of all big imagination and creativity, no question Love it !!!
Diosa
fucking shredding on the fretless bass
cannot wait till she's touring the US again
It's amazing! Looks like Miles Davis that have too the moment classic and psicodelic. It's Davis of 21th century.
The woman is FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I’m in love....
Did Jaco Pastorius and Tania Maria "play pattycake" and create this phenom?
I am feeling this no bordered genius...she is straight renaissance!
Is that an Ampeg Fliptop she DI-ing out of? Daaaam!
Lol @the people who thumbs down dope music on CZcams. I never understand it... I just laugh at it now
Wooo
Very good stuff and, yes, I can hear Fripp (thankfully not Frippertronics which I find tedious) and Hendrix. Anyone else hear Living Colour? She'd be well worth going to see. Dunno if she gets over to the UK much.
I HEAR THE POLICE as well
What effect does Matthew Stevens use at the beginning ? o:
Esp, mountains can't erupt but I still love you XD
Justin Tyson on drums and Matthew Steven on guitar. Best artist in music right now!!! Who is the female backing singer?
+coquipeludo Emily Elbert, an amazing vocalist and performer in her own right.
www.emilyelbert.com/
She understands Miles Davis, Michael Henderson & Keith Jarrett
kinda weather report-ish, but with vocals and guitar. when do we get the album?
I’m guessing that the guitar is tuned down and alternatively. Anyone know exactly?
Does anyone know who the little girl is on the right?
jazz metal

is she coming out with a new album?
+hawdarkshooter God I hope so, this stuff with her new project is awesome.
+hawdarkshooter She just recorded a live studio album. So we just wait.
+hawdarkshooter Yep. Emily's D+Evolution. She actually announced the target release date earlier today: March 4th.
hi¡¡¡ , this song is amazing, one question, can someone tell me the name of the guitarist? i like this chords¡¡
Who is Emily?
Esperanza's middle name.
Is it me or do I have to zone out on some sort of controlled substance to enjoy this piece?
+ralph ellison you don't have to enjoy it, and I wouldn't recommend using substances for that purpose.
flyversusfly76 You are right I do not have to enjoy it for it to be considered great music. I guess I should not have made the comment if I thought it would offend others. Assez abstrait pour moi! Mais belle capacité de réinvention!
ououu
sadly it's dissapearing for me
I need her to be my wife.
NOW WE FIGHTING BRO...this is MY DREAMGIRL!! HA HA
This has alot of POLICE vibes...BUT the singer is way ahead of STING. ESPERANZA IS THE VOICE OF LIFE!!!
She didn't have to rob Devo's theory of de evolution when naming her act.
Suenan monotonos los temas y reirterativas la estructura de las melodias.Igual vale la creacion y continuar con la linea inspirativa de Joni Mitchel.
