If you look at the Benin Bronzes, there are Portuguese soldiers depicted on some of the bronze panels. Portuguese were in Congo in the 1400's. African gold mines were the obsession of Europeans from North to South.

A fantastic lecture from a wonderful scholar; as a previous commentator said here, I've also watched and listened to hours and hours of content from Professor H French about this book. It is a gripping subject and fills the gap that I've often wondered about. I'm definitely buying this book.

I am reading the book now. I have read a considerable number of books and articles on how the modern world was formed. Howard French has uncovered new areas of scholarship in providing fidelity to the historical records which has been omitted, deliberately or worst, to maintain the myth of racial stratification and White Supremacy.

I heard an interview on LNL with Phillip Adams and was so impressed that I have bought the book immediately, brilliant accessible analysis of the (other )truth that is barely mentioned in the West

This is very fascinating I really enjoyed the quick lesson and I'm excited to read the book. And hagiography is a new word to me but I think one that's powerful going forward.

How did the other countries know about the gold in West Africa?

From Mensa Musa - that trip he took to Mecca was legendary because of the amount of gold he took.
