Before I begin, I’d like to kindly ask all who care to listen to please do so in the car or on a solid set of headphones. It just sounds better that way.
This has been a very long time comin. A good buddy of mine named Houston Fry came to my place during Covid to pick on a few songs and had told me he had a new one he was working on.
I’ll vividly remember him singing the chorus of this song the very first time and how hard it hit me.
It’s literally been years in the making; I’ve strategically held off on bringing this song to light because I knew I wasn’t ready as a singer or a musician at the time to bring it to its full potential. Who knows, maybe I’m not still and this thing could evolve into something even more grandiose. We can only hope…
The goal is to always be able to look back at our previous selves and say, “Yeah, that guy is not as good as this guy now.”
Enough of that
I also knew that I would need to wait until I had the BAND to put the girth on this thing that it deserves.
I want to give a very heartfelt and special THANK YOU to Mr. Maestro Ivory Slim on the piano 🎹.
I came to him with this song, explained to him my vision, and asked him to take his classical training, experience playing in church, and seasoning directing plays/musicals/orchestras/etc. And make something larger than life out of this song.
My exact words to him were: “I want a high energy, beautiful, and dynamic Cody Johnson song that’s being cut for Disney. LEAVE YOUR MARK”
from a musical standpoint, I personally do not believe he could have done a better job.
For all my musicians out there, this one is wrought with Easter eggs.
I would be remiss if I did not shout out every member of the band for putting their touch and the Faster Horses sound on this song. It was a gigantic group effort. We sat in the rehearsal room and probably ran through this thing over 40 times before we finally got it right.
I hope you guys can enjoy it as much as we do.
