    This is so my girl. She is in 1st grade. She as a rare genetic condition also. ZMYND11. She has hypotonia also, math is very hard for her. This has helped me so much. I go back and forth between books and levels also. Thank you for sharing. I love your channel.

    I absolutely love that you tell sophie that there is nothing she can't do! My oldest has had some learning challenges and while I try to adapt his curriculum to his needs and we absolutely move at the pace he needs, I also try to teach him tools to help him cope with his challenges. Telling kids that their diagnosis limits them can really hold them back mentally and prevent them for reaching their full potential. You are doing a fantastic job! ❤

      Thank you! I definitely think that when parents believe in their children, they believe in themselves too.

    Thank you so much for sharing. We are moving into 2nd grade, so this was very helpful. Those readers look so fun!

    I love how you don’t put limitations on your daughter and are doing everything you can to help her reach her full potential.

    Thanks so much for the encouragement for newer homeschool families. Love your quick overview of TGTB art book because I want to use that this year.

    I have a neurotypical child, too. I have his "spine" curriculum (like your TGTB Level 1 for Sophie), and this "stretch" material (Languages Living Level 2 for Sophie). The FallCo Family mom also does "spine and stretch" for her kids but always meets them where they are while offering a stretch on the days they are ready for a stretch. She's unschooling this year, but has a great homeschool channel.

    I love hearing about Sophie's progress and it looks like she is going to have an amazing year next year!
    I will have to look into the handwriting, it looks like it would be great for Marcus, he's really struggling with his and gets easily overwhelmed.

      They have a kindergarten book now that might work too. The pages are smaller, the letters are bigger, and there’s less on the page.

    Love seeing/hearing Sophie’s progress! Such a beautiful, and strong, family. As a first year homeschool momma, I really love these curriculum videos! For some all the choices are daunting and confusing, but I honestly see it as endless possibilities. ❤️🙌🏼

    These picks all look like they're going to be a great fit for Sophie! Totally agree on doing what works for you!!

  • @jerilyn-ourhomeschooltable

    I think your approach for LA is perfect! Those books look so good! A couple of them I used to use in my old classroom, but now I kind of want to get them for my homeschool! 😂 I would love to see some of the projects you do from that Art book from TGATB. I need to do better about incorporating more Art.

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Před 4 lety

      I need to be more intentional about art too, especially since Sophie loves it so much. I’m hoping this book will help. I’ve had so many people comment on the art book that I will definitely include us using it in future videos.

    Would you mind doing a video on how you use MB and TGTB together? I thk this might be the route we need to take w our special needs child.

    My daughter is wrapping up her 2nd grade year, and we love TGTB lang arts, math, and handwriting, as well. We also used Masterbooks' Science Life for beginners, and plan on moving on to the next levels of that series in the upcoming years. We are a part of CC, and use Masterbooks World's History and America's History series as read alouds to support our timelines and history sentences. Very pleased with how it's all working for us! Do you think TGTB's History would be a good fit for grades 5-8?

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, I think TG&TB history is great for upper elementary and middle school.

  • @blissfenwick6318

    Thank you for sharing your supplemental Science books! I LOVE educational books that are beautifully illustrated. They can double as coffee table books for the grownups. ☺️
    Have you tried the My Story series from Master Books? Curious to know how they worked for you if you did. TIA!

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Před 4 lety +1

      I have My Story 1 and I’m considering using it this year with Our America. My only concern is that there’s a lot of writing and because Sophie struggles so much with writing I try to keep it to a minimum in science and history. Otherwise I think it looks fantastic.

    • @blissfenwick6318
      @blissfenwick6318 Před 4 lety

      @@simplejoyfilledliving That makes sense. I didn't know it has a lot of writing.
      By the way, I like how you mentioned not having a separate Bible subject since Abeka, MB, and TGATB are already mainly Christian curricula. I've been thinking a lot about this lately and wondering about the merits of using secular curricula and then having a separate Christian Living subject that I piece together using various resources. I guess I'll have to try one way and then the other if the first doesn't work. It's just that my 4.5 YO has been showing signs of being over talking about God sometimes. She changes the subject or asks to do something else. 😁

  • @3musketeershomestead62

    I can’t agree more with the extra bible study not needed at this age it has enough inside the books.

    Can u explain further about switching back and forth or how would u suggest to go back and forth....... I bought math and LA from both curriculum companies because like Sophie my daughter struggles when hitting a certain point in the curriculum. We are actually doing math k now and primer k from the good and the beautiful. Also can u explain your schedule for year round? Can u tell I’m a newbie?? LOL:)

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Před 4 lety

      These are both good questions. I’m going to make a video on switching between curriculum for special needs and learning issues. But I start with one and when we hit a wall, I switch. I don’t pre-plan anything except which one to start with. On the year round homeschooling, we take a shorter summer break and more breaks during the year. I aim for 200 days and we usually hit between 190-205 days (including field trip days). So the way I do it we have fewer days off total and no breaks longer than 4-6 weeks. I do it mainly because it helps with retention for Sophie and it reduces the stress of having to get it all in in the 180 days.

    I’m curious about what made you pick MB science over TGTB science?

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Před 3 lety +1

      I love TG&TB science but I feel like it was a little above my daughter’s head at this point. I’m planning to move to it in a year or 2.

    • @brittanyedwards3293
      @brittanyedwards3293 Před 3 lety

      @@simplejoyfilledliving Thank you! I’ve been pushing my first grader through TGTB science all year, because everyone I’ve talked to says it’s the best, but I think it may have been over her head. Not sure if it will feel “right” for second grade, but maybe we’ll check out MB 🙂

  • @sew_whatever
    @sew_whatever Před 4 lety

    I have been using for my kindergartener math k and primer k. Since the epidemic situation and I am homeschooling next school year by choice........ I wanted to go your route since I do have a child that struggles a lot ..... I purchased the LA level K tgtb and LLFLE level 1. Also purchased the math level 1 from master books. Can’t wait to get them ..... I am still undecided about history.......for science we are doing Life for beginners master books:)
