I've seen a few videos where Matt is mentioning a lack of 1 pedal driving in VW group electric cars - here he says he doesn't know why. The answer I was given by an Audi engineer is that VW cars coast - by design. Their research shows constant speed up then slow down via regen actually gives a lower level of efficiency vs cars that roll more. Reason being is you can carry more momentum without using power via rolling, whereas if you're constantly speeding up, then using the regen to slow down, you're slowing down too much and have to step on the "gas" pedal more often to get back up to speed. Given the extra weight of electric vehicles, this makes even more sense as they'll coast easier due to their larger mass. So it's a choice and you'll likely continue to see it.
I'm driving a Q4 50 which, apart from the looks, is pretty much the same car. What Matt also fails to mention (I think, at least), is that the car automatically regenerates in many situations once you take your foot off the "gas" (e.g. if you're approaching an intersection or are too close to the car in front of you) and otherwise coasts to preserve momentum. Also, if you hit the break pedal, it'll use regen breaking as well so. From personal experience (comparing break and the regular drive mode), this actually is more efficient and I find it more comfortable to just lift my foot off the "gas" whenever I don't need to accelerate and let the car do the right thing. A friend of mine has a Model 3 and I asked him how he is coasting. He said that you'll learn to push the "gas" just the right amount to not slow down and to not accelerate.
Funny you say that... I think the front here looks horrendous... Not that most BMWs have a better front but Id take the 3 or 5 series with the still more traditional front any day over this monstrosity...

It doesn't make any sense to put disc brakes on the rear axle of an electric car. Most of the braking is done through recuperation, those rear brakes hardly get any use. @@rasherbasher8203 I disagree, the measure is supposed to be mixed driving in which case these cars could probably do the stated range. What would be a better metric was a measure of max range assuming 70/75 mph on the motorway. That way people know the minimum the should expect to get and any other driving conditions will be more. These ranges only become relevant when you have to make rare but distant trips. Having the metric reflect that would be much better.

I fell for the thumbnail,
God, Skoda for £54k? No, thank you.
Welcome to inflation, where money doesn't mean anything unless you have a ton of it
Should've been 22k pounds.
I like Skoda's I bought an Octavia VRS new in 2009 for £18600 (they did me a mega price) with loads of extras like heated leather seats, Xenons etc. It was an amazing car which we kept for 8 years. For a time we ran it alongside a Porsche Macan S, which was a really nice car...but cost £54K.
I can't believe that this Skoda is now the same price we paid for a loaded Porsche Macan in 2016!! 😯
Why not, what the hell is your problem?

Price/Brand issue.
Skoda are a fantastic budget brand...but if u go to their dealers they are just sensible and solid..no problem with that bit you're not going to get a latte and shortbread that you'd get at Audi/Porsche.
54K is a 'luxury' price point...lots of amazing cars at this price.
I don't think it's a Skoda problem, it's an EV problem.👍🏻
Surely if the WLTP test is meant to be "realistic" then the results should be pretty much what you'll get in the real world but that just isn't the case for EV's.
Same for ICE car efficiency/mpg too tbf
@@Stewiedude1 in some cases yes... these EV cases are lies or I call them utter bollocks.
Having the metric reflect that would be much better.
model y looking... and whats that grill? id RUN to wrap it black
Mat thank you so much for this insane video!
What's insane about the video?
Drawing your dream bmw be like:
Yep. Exactly like BMW X1 and downgraded Rossolini LM Classic.

I love this new Skoda Enyaq vRS Coupe! It looks so cool, futuristic, sporty and aggressive and have an amazing 299hp from 2 electric motors!
299HP :|
299 Bhp for 30 second burst.. but thanks I don't need to watch the video now.
I can't stop looking at the rear left wheel arch and try to figure out if the car paint is already damaged.
In the UK, the Enyaq Coupe can only be had in vRS trim, not Sportline. The orange coloured car shown briefly at 1:41 isn't a Sportline - it has chrome window and grill surrounds. All Sportline (now badged Sportline Plus models) of the standard Enyaq in the UK have black window and grill surrounds, the same as the vRS Coupe.
Those bmw looking grill actually looks better than BMW's....nice looking car
It's not VRS ! It's just RS, the symbol infront is mistaken for V but its just a design.
More like RS 0.5 for me
Incorrect.
It's called the VRS in the UK market because Ford has a copyright on the 'RS' badge over here. In Europe and everywhere else, it's the RS.
Hey Matt, Big Fan from India. Have watched ALL the videos you've done, very informative & entertaining. Can you please find a moded VRS/Golf in UK and review it, pretty sure it is easy to find that particular car there :)
