- In this series I'll show and explain how a violin is build.
For this instrument I use a single piece bird-eye maple back and scroll and a spruce top. I build the violin on the A. Stradivari 1715 model.
In this video I explain some more about the wood, plane the top and back and cut the in their final form.

Sorry, but I've just found your videos and how impressed I am with them. You're so informative and very clear. I have not made a violin yet, but I have always found the art of building them fascinating, so thank you for sharing your skills with us/me.
Your videos made me loving my violin more and more and appreciate the luthiers...
Thank you for your kind words!
Your videos are excellent. I work in a violin shop and most of the violin making videos I see on CZcams are either not very detailed or not very well executed but yours are by far the best I've come across. Keep up the good work. Subscribed and I'll be sharing with my friends and colleagues.
Michael Tacy thank you so much! Sunday, the first part of the new "Repair series". Next part of the violin making series October 10.

Thank you very much for your kind words! Greetings to beautiful Canada!
you are AWESOME. Cheers from Argentina.
Can you reccomend us some books about the art of violin making?! Thank you!!!
Wonderful video! And thank you so much for the work you do. I am wondering, do you have an acceptable tolerance when working on the outline of an instrument? If you know the measurements of an instrument you are copying or “interpreting”, how much difference would you tolerate? Just a matter of curiosity :)
absolutely the best videos
amazing!! thank you so much
Thank you!
Beautiful video Really Congratulations !!. a question; Is it possible to glue a crack in such a way that it cannot be seen with the naked eye? , or will there always be a mark or line? Thank you very much Master.
If the crack is new then it could be possible if the varnish isn't damaged or repairable. Nevertheless, in my opinion, a crack must be visible (at least through the inner side) to prevent that broken instruments are sold as new.
Thanks very much Master.
Great video !!! Thank you so much!! I wonder where I can buy a table like that ?
Thank you! I bought the bench in a shop hear in Holland but I don't think that the ship internationally. Have a look on dictum.com
Thanks, excelente, may I make the back plate the same way as the soundboard using two pieces of wood?
Yes of course you can!
@@maestrokimon thanks
One piece bottom rib?
Also possible! Maybe something for my next instrument!
It is still not clear to me exactly why soft wood is used for the top and hard wood for the back.
It is a combination of the soft but with optimal resonance characteristics spruce and the hard maple that keeps the instrument in one piece seen also the big tension of the strings.
what type of table do you use to make your violin
I'm using a carpenters workbench.
what kind of plane do you use?
I use a Stanley 25cm long (No 4).
@@maestrokimon okay, thank you!! I have a Stanley #4 also and a Japanese hand plane
How much is your violin please?
We will see when it's ready!

Why does this guy talk so much? Just get to it.
I don't only show but also explain how a violin is made. That's why I have to talk a lot some times.
Please do not reduce your talking content, your explanations are very relevant and very much appreciated. ZD, just chill.
