What is going on my mates
Today we are going to talk about what happens after Modern Baseball. It's been about two years since Modern Baseball went on "indefinite hiatus" and we'll be discussing what happened after they broke up.
Brendan Lukens isn't doing too much music stuff these days, in fact, I don't think he's doing much of anything these days, in terms of internet ventures. I hope he's okay and doing well.
Sean Huber got married and is now a husband and a father (good for him), so I'm not too sure what his musical future holds, either.
But Ian Farmer and Jake Ewald have been hard at work since Modern Baseball closed out.
They've been playing in and touring in Slaughter Beach, Dog a band that Jake created.
And yeah, that's what we're gonna talk about. Thank you for all of the support lately, it'll never not blow me away.
Hope you have a great upcoming week
Best,
Nate

Slaughter Beach, Dog or MoBo?
Nate The Mate Though I do love both, I will always have a soft spot for MoBo. They are my second favorite band behind Hippo Campus. But then again Slaughter Beach, dog is also amazing. But I think MoBo Will stay a better band in my eyes.
P.s. Slaughter Beach, dog is much more creative than MoBo, in my opinion
Sorry to comment again, but did you hear about CZcams deleting non-Monitized channels on December 10th, I know it won’t affect you but I find it saddening.
MoBoooo
literally can't pick. impossible
Modern Baseball helped me through so much. I have to go with them.
Modern Baseball is the popular, coming-of-age film in the form of a band. Slaughter Beach, Dog is the arthouse spinoff.
badguygeorge perfectly articulated
By fall out boy
I actually got into mobo via slaughter beach
Your Cat and 104 degrees and Acolyte are masterful songs
All I wanna say is if MCR are reuniting i think we can have a MOBO one night only reunion
u kno das fair
my friend got me into modern baseball and slaughter beach dog at the same time it’s kind of crazy to see the 2 different projects without knowing the progression
Candace Dupree that’s really tight tbh
“Im going to force you to like this band” 😂 Nate there’s no need for that
Austin Hargraves that’s probably the most aggressive I’ve ever gotten in one of my videos haha
Nate! You should make a Sorority Noise video. They’re last album, YNAAYT, is a masterpiece
Facts
YES
i didn’t know Slaughter Beach, Dog existed until a few months ago, and i love all of their albums, can’t wait to hear more as time goes on
Computer Man same here matey!
Best channel I’ve discovered in a long time. Really good editing and narration- keep it up!!
slaughter beach dog is forever my favorite cup of coffee
Jacob Gott hahaha this reminds me of a comment I’d see in Anthony Fantano’s comment section haha. Thank you for this
I admire the way you listen to albums and let them grow on you. I just relistened to the new Rex Orange County album and added a slew of more songs. Thanks for the videos! Just downloaded a bunch of Slaughter Beach, Dog and am in love 🥰
Darrian Padilla thank you so much Darian! Sometimes it takes like 25 listens before an album click, u kno? Cheers matey!!!
Thank you so much for the playlist homie.
Seeing them live is gonna get me more into them. There’s a certain headspace they put me in live. It was the first time I’ve thought about the positive little things I’ve gone through throughout my life in a long time. It was a very positive experience.
MoBo #1
Where my "Brendan Lukens" fans?
i miss him
I love this band so so much. I feel like with all the albums, the more I listened to the albums, the more I loved individual songs. I also really don't like rap or spoken word, but Black Oak and 104 Degrees are some of my favorite songs by him. Wowzah.
Joshua Paine black oak was such a pleasant surprise on their last album
Helpful to me as I like MoBo and didn't even know about SBD! Thanks dude
I think you're absolutely right about SBD records being growers. On my first listen of both Birdie and Safe, I wasn't sure if I was into them, but after a few more listens they became two of my all time favourites.
Just saw Slaughter Beach, Dog in Lancaster last night, it was awesome, I loved every second. Met Jake briefly and he was friendly as ever, will never not have my support
incredible video covering my favorite band, i’m glad you share the love. Jake Ewald is the most incredible song writer. Acolyte has been my favorite song since it was first shown off on the audiotree farout session. much love.
Jason Bak Jason, thank you! And I had the same experience. I had to wait so long for the album version haah
i had always loved the way jake narrates through his lyrics, even in early songs from mobo like "Voting Early" to the latest like "this song is gonna buy brendan lukens a new pair of socks" so, when i listened to Slaughter Beach Dog music i instantly loved it.
I love slaughter beach dog. I fell in love with story telling in songs when I first listened to Bright Eyes we are nowhere and it’s now. It really did change my life.
So glad to hear you like the weakerthans too, theyre amazing
Yo! I'm surprised you didn't mention Sean's music 'Steady Hands' its pretty awesome
thanks Nate!!! amazing vid once again. love a good slot beach dawg feature
thank YOU
I saw them at a Toronto bar years ago (Smiling Buddha). Was really bummed about MOBO breaking up so had to see what Jake was up to. What a great time. They had a cool cover of Friday I'm In Love.
you watanabe car at 4:35 SERIOUSLY caught me off guard
Nice video Nate! It's funny Safe and Also No Fear has been the album that's gotten me truly hooked on the band and now I've been going backwards in their discography. I have not made any comments yet but thought you should know I've really been enjoying your videos and you've introduced me to some some really great bands! Or have gotten me to take a second look into one (like Modern Baseball). Cheers my man!
Tillly_menziesii thank you so much Tilly! Safe and also no fear is a slow burning masterpiece
Listen to La Dispute attentively. You're gonna love it.
I second this
Dante Morales they suck ass the vocalist has an ass voice
There's a band called The Heligoats that also has great songs and stories that grow more and more on you with each listen. I love bands that do that to you. Slaughter Beach, Dog is definitely one of my favorites.
As a huge fan of Slaughter Beach, Dog and Jake's songwriting skills, this is such an enjoyable video to listen to. Can't wait till we all can get back to shows and see him live for the first time!
great video, i totally agree with you on your opinion that slaughter beach dog is better than mobo. i just wanted to add that slaughter beach is an actual place in delaware (this always makes me think of the line "delaware, where oh where are we" from fish fry)
Pedro the lion is underrated... Least I think. And another awesome video! You really put out quality content
Nate! I think you missed one detail in that Weakerthans verse - the lyric "afraid" is also meant to be "a frayed", as in a frayed rope. So it has that extra element of precariousness there.
right on! it took me awhile to become a fan of Slaughter Beach, Dog, but when i did i learned to really love all their stuff!
Sam Ellis it’s an acquired taste.. haha not really but kinda
As much as I love Mobo, I think the thing that makes Slaughter Beach, Dog so great is that it’s an entirely different project. It’s like I can’t even compare the two because it’s like the saying of comparing apples to oranges. Both amazing, but in their own way. Amazing video :)
Uh ? Ah, I totally see what you are saying! Thank you mate
Jake is literally my favourite artist to have ever been xD slaughter beach dog and MoBo forever
Isabella Unwin same, Isabella
I really miss the vulnerability and blunt nature of Modern Baseball, but it is a fleeting emotion. It’s very pointed and direct, but it applies one time in ones life.
On the other hand, slaughter beach is special. It has a unique sound and direction that is rare these days, and I really love it.
Yes I’ll mourn for the loss of something inspirational in Modern Baseball, but I’ll be listening to Slaughter Beach for a long time to come.
Also see Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties if you like this form of expression. It’s an offshoot of The Wonder Years and it is EXCELLENT.
Can you go through all the songs on safe and also no fear/their other albums. Like you did with all the mobo albums? Cause I don’t understand half the songs and really want to love slaughter beach dog like you do
Amazing video. I think one of MOBO strong points that Slaughter Beach, Dog lacks is the amazing harmony between two guitarist.
But I'm glad Slaughter Beach Dog is a band.
MoBo is definitely going to get back together at some point.
Robert Lanterman I don’t think so matey I’m sorry :(
man, i really wish they will. but they wont. im sorry.
please make a video about sean’s band steady hands. their first album rude boys of bar rock is one of my favorites
I think the issue I had with Slaughter Beach, Dog is that it's slower and a bit less...I'm trying to find the word I mean better than if I just said less energetic, but mostly that I wasn't as gripped by it. I started with the latest stuff in Safe and Also No Fear, so that might have been an issue. I gave it a couple listens over but nothing really reached me in the same way as I was hoping, but the writing WAS fantastic. I just wasn't enthralled enough to get back into it. I'll have to check out the first couple projects now though!
Steady Hands has a good amount of music out, even put out an album after the mobo break up, u should be talking about it!
i completely agree with every song eventually becoming my favourite
Black oak is a masterpiece, I get chills every time I hear it.
saaaame mate
BIG YES TO PEDRO THE LION, such a great band with consistently incredible lyrics.
I love your videos mate 🤙
thank you so much Saul! have a great rest of your sunday
@@NateTheMateForever you as well! I remember being so crushed when mobo broke up. They were my favorite band. I needed new music from Jake or Bren so I checked out SBD. And man oh man it's one if the best decisions I've ever made. They are easily my favorite now. Jake is really something else and he's definitely an underrated songwriter
Birdies really good but safe and also no fear is kinda spooky and I'm obsessed
The line from politics of grooming "She did not hear you softly crying near Or feel your mouth all hot against her ear So you kissed her like she taught you And for the first time on a head You got up and tucked your own self into bed" kill me everytime, love the band and im waiting to get a safe and also no fear tattoo
Andres Mora this comment made me feel so happy and feel less alone in my love for this band. Thank you Andres
@@NateTheMateForever i love the band! Your Instagram actually helped me found them, at first i didnt know if i liked them but the more i listened the more i liked them
You probably came across this in your research but "Glowing" on SBDs EP was a weakerthans cover actually and Jake did a Pedro the Lion cover with MoBo awhile ago, forgot the exact session but it's funny that you mention them.
I was one of the few who found slaughter beach, dog before I found modern baseball. I don’t remember how I came across them but the first song I heard was 104 degrees and I instantly fell in love .
peyton schneider that’s a really cool way to discover them tbh
Wonderful explanation, of course I knew he had Slaughter Beach, Dog. But I also ended up liking Slaughter Beach, Dog. more than Modern Baseball, even more after seeing them live, his progression as a musician shows.
MrOreo Eater13 thank you so much mate
104 degrees sounds very similar to black oak at the start though
SBD played at a local venue and I didn’t go because I didn’t know who they were, now I regret that
Jake with glasses is just rivers cuomo
I listen to Black Oak religiously
Man, I agree with you about liking slaughter beach, dog over mobo. It’s so damn good.
I have started listening to the playlist he made consistently and now I like slaughter beach more than Mobo I was gonna see them live for my birthday but when we got to the venue it was sold out
Motorcycle.jpg is basically free anxiety medicine
The accuracy baby *chefs kiss* I got the green variant in the mail Thursday and had an afternoon of serotonin 😌
I was gonna see them live for my birthday in Richmomd I thought it was buy tickets at the door but turns out it was sold out but I did get to sit right next to Jake and Ian
Where's that clip of them playing spin the bottle from lmao
PhatKat77777 hahaha “the making of birdie” or something. It’s up on the Lame-O records CZcams channel :)
I actually found Modern Baseball through slaughter beach dog since I listened to them first.
man i friggin love Slaughter Beach, Dog
Working on an Acolyte cover with my Gf currently
Make sure to show me!
I already do one, if u want me to record it to u, I can
Nate, if you like story driven songs that reward repeat listens I think you'll love the album 'Grow/Decompose' by Young Jesus
Same to anyone reading this :)
asdfnewguy 702 thank u thank u my mate
Yes!!! Young Jesus Kills!
asdfnewguy 702 just found Young Jesus. Love it.
Pls do a video on basement
I will
If you like stories, if you havent, listen to Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties from first song on first album, in order to the last song on the last album. It's a masterpiece
love them
I went to a live show he did and it was honestly my favorite live band I have seen so far. Amazingly talented man
@@peterpatrick4469 Saw AW20, Anthony Green, Elder Brother, and Ace Enders in 2014 and it may still be one of my favorite concerts ever
Ryan Ross and Jake Ewald, two of my favourite songwriters. And they're both my man crush too lmao 😂
I’ve always thought SB,D was super underrated. The only reason I don’t listen to them 24/7 is because of how melancholy they are, which is beautiful but wrecks you if you listen to them while sad
Josh Shaw yeah they’re so sad hahaah
No Steady Hands mention?
104 degrees is insane
YES
I didn’t really like SBD when I first heard them but after watching this video when it came out in 2019, I became a huge fan. In a weird way I’m almost glad mobo broke up so we could have SBD and Jake can pursue the project to it’s full potential. (Still want mobo to do a reunion so I can see them live lol)
Nate are you a fan of Pinegrove, they're another one of my favourite bands you have spoken about yet? ;)
Nat Boddington I’m in love with them
I mean. I don't think anyone expected MCR to come back. I'm holding out hope for in another 5 years they might come back. Very small might but I believe it's a possibility.
One down is one of my favorite slaughter beach dog song
it reminds me of the way depression feels
His storytelling always reminded me of the mountain goats.
I’d do anything to get a Frank Turner video from you.
Okay so I don’t really research music much, but I really used to think the vocal leads of SBD and MB were so similar until I found out it’s pretty much the same band💀
Mate your forgetting the biggest band that rewards you for multiple listens... Radiohead!!!!
But great video love your opinions I constantly have Birdie on repeat.
Dan Man agreed! Especially on an album like Kid A. I’m still digesting that album haha
Slaughter beach isn’t a fictional town! Its a small coastal town in Delaware, I’ve actually driven through it by accident once or twice on my way to ocean city, maryland. I think Jake has said his parents live there now or something.
*me looking at black oak on all my playlists* HMMMMMMMMMMMM. I don't know I just prefer SB,D. there's something about the way Jake writes in that band and how it's simple but so damn beautiful. I love MoBo, I really do but they're different in all the best ways
Fuck yeah totally going to check them out I didnt even know about them and I’ve been listening to mobo for like 6 year
Jason Gutierrez you’ll like SBD!
love! 😛
Karla Baker love you Karla the mate
I think I literally agreed with every word you said in this video
ayy that's cool to hear, thank you
Thank u for crushing my hope 🥺😪
Mobo all the way all songs are bangers
The only reason i dont think mobo will reunite, is because jake has advanced so far as a songwriter since holy ghost, that i feel like itd be boring for him to get back together with bren
Cameron Wilkinson Great point mate
Michael cera palin vid?
Bought tickets to see slaughter beach, dog as soon as I watched this video 😆
Very good live.
Jessica Price yeah matey!!!
is it bad that i found sbd before i found mobo?
that's even better
Ive always likes SBD but personally I always liked brendans songs better, so nothing beats mobo for me
Slaughter beach dog is so underrated
Getting into SB,D is what makes me not feel the need to cry every time I realise MoBo aren’t coming back
repeat listen rewarding bands other than this: Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst.
Slaughter Beach all the way, it's just much more mature, versatile and well-rounded
I'm seeing them in January and I'm very excited
where @?
@@NateTheMateForever Brighton
Love SBD
they goodie
How do i get into writing stuff like this? Or writing anything really
like Slaughter Beach Dog lyrics or videos like this? Either way.. PRACTICE
gotta suck before you get good
@@NateTheMateForever Lyrics. I got into Mobo pretty late (when Holy Ghost came out) and it blew me away. Especially being out of the scene for 5+ years. They inspired me to learn guitar and write songs. I guess I have trouble trying to find something to write about. My life is pretty boring and uneventful so it's hard to pull from person experience. Finding the right words can be pretty frustrating. Gotta keep practicing though.
Sickk
thanks brady
I hope bren is doing okay
Pop Punk me too me too
