In SF2, Zangief could get in and give you a piledriver for huge damage. It was scary. But here in the glorious future, Zangief can still piledriver you, but every other character in the game can do a 40 hit combo off a poke that takes half your lifebar. They all evolved, grapplers are still stuck in 1992.

Zangief was my main in this game. Lots of battles with the fam to see who was gonna be the champ at the end of the day. Good times, good memories.

I forgot how "Capcommy" this game's music was. Like a mixture of Megaman X and BoF3. I love it nonetheless. The memories of this arcade cabinet will never die! 😅
That vibe existed in Capcom fg osts over more or less the mid 90s, very notable in MSH and XvSF, SFA2, DS2, and the first versions of SF3. Then Capcom started changing that overall vibe in SFA3, MvC1, DS3 and 3S... And became more experimental in MvC2 and CvS1, both from the same year.

Yeah SNK transcended the original design of the archetype created by Capcom, and ended up influencing Capcom's own grapplers after SF2. That's how they stopping looking "textbook format" as Zangief. So SNK's mad scientist experiments in the 90s are the cause of the chaos of grapplers with versatile movesets.
(And i dont mind it since i like to see the chaos and the salt for grapplers)

With the success of X-Men 97, I really hope we get this back to modern systems. I am not spending near half a thousand dollars for an arcade cabinet than my Switch friends that never played the VS series.
I got this on arcade one up, I also have it on MAME with every other vs game. I hate x men 97, I just want all these games on mod consoles, but marvel/disney are pure trash now. So sad what’s happened to these once amazing companies. Free mvc2!

That Tager Buster hit different...
I mean Tager got options. The biggest problem is that those same options also help your opponent bully you or do combos that would've otherwise been impossible. That and a large number of his options will sometimes lose to what they are meant to beat (spark bolt losing its projectile immunity in recent renditions of the move) as well as sledgehammer will sometimes lose to the attacks its meant to armor if you time the attack to hit the end frames of the armor status.

I love how characters bounce off screen when they lose.
If I recall back in SF Alpha games Capcom in their infinite wisdom designed the games with a delayed execution set up. Case in point, you have to pull back prematurely to block attacks before the attacks actually came out. If you weren’t already holding back before a super move freeze effect occurs you’re eating the super.
Wouldn’t be surprised that carried over in this series.

After doing the air lariat combo do a launcher again and repeat the combo. That's zangief infinite.

Is there some Fightcade etiquette against easy infinites? Sabretooth could have killed Gief or Juggy if he landed a single jumping HP or HK on the ground.
