At the Airport in Omaha, Ne. They asked me if I would quit playing this song. I kept playing it over and over. I always thought I was the Rock of Gibraltar but then I met Shirley, I took a tumble that day and I was only 20 years old.
This was my father's theme song. We used to play it about a dozen times during and before his birthday dinner. When he passed away on 17 May 2000 at the age of 87, as the executor of the estate, the one thing that I wanted and kept was that 78 RPM record; for his funeral, I had the recording transferred to tape and also CD (I think) and we played it before the showing and at the start of the funeral service - just a great song and performance by Mr. Laine. And as to what was on the other side of the original 78 RPM record, well, "Rock of Gibraltar was the B-Side and the A-Side, which became much more famous, was his recording of the theme song for the movie, "High Noon" (Note: He did not sing "High Noon" on the movie soundtrack as that was done by Tex Ritter, but his recording became more famous). He died on 7 February 2007 in San Diego, CA, at the age of 93 years old.
I kept playing this song over and over, in the Hayden House at the Omaha, Ne. airport, till they asked me to stop. Frankie was always my favorite singer. He still is!
I just can't get tired of listening to Rock of Gibraltar ! what memories from La Cajita de Musica and Jorge Pelaez Rioja in radio (Peru) back in the early fifities!!!
frankie laine was always a favourite of mine, still is. other than bing, who'll always be king, frankie was tops, a lot better than sinatra, como, dino... in my book. pat bonner
Ok, yeah I realize it might have been spelt "er" as a mistake, but I was just saying, when mentioning Gibraltar, it's better to use the correct spelling! Nevertheless, great song!
Does anyone know when this was written. I'm using it for a chapter title in my novel and want to talk about it in the chapter. The book is set in WWII 1943ish. I'd love to know about the writer. Thanks.
Very Proud To Hear This Song About The Rock of Gibraltar! British Gibraltar , UK Overseas Territory 🇬🇧.
Man I'm 30 from central europe and I've been searching for this rendition of this song for past 20 years :-)
Wonderful clip. RIP Frankie, one of the greatest voices of all time.

I kept playing this song over and over at the Omaha, Ne Airport in 1952. One of the employees asked me to stop.
What a posting! My favourite track. I had it on 78 and played it over and over on a wind up gram! Thanks for this.

EXCELLENT SONG FROM FRANKIE LAINE . THE ROCK OF GIBRALTAR,UK OVERSEAS TERRITORY🇬🇧
This is not a song about selling brushes but it is about brushing up against a bush.
I was president of one of Frankie's fan clubs in the mid 50's and this is the first time I ever heard this song. Thanks for posting it.
My mom used to sing some lines from this song :) I never thought to look into what song it was from! Quite catchy

Frankie died a few days ago aged 93. RIP Frankie. Watch this video to see what he was all about.
According to 'First Hits', the book of sheet music hits, it was spelt 'er', for some reason!
Frankie smoked em big time! There's never been anyone like him.
