  • WHAT IS VENETIAN PLASTER?
    This is a question I get asked often, which is why I chose to create this video showing the whole process.
    Venetian plaster is not render, it is not paint, it is natural lime based plaster with marble dust, yes real marble crushed into fine dust!
    Basically you are creating a real marble wall with only 2-3mm thickness.
    IS IT EXPENSIVE?
    YES, it is more expensive than paint, more expensive than render and normal solid plaster but a lot cheaper than using a custom marble piece.
    For this video I used Marmorino fine, which is not as shinny and reflective as the high polished version.
    However, the Marmorino finish can not be replicated with anything else, that's why every single wall is a unique piece itself.
    I hope you guys enjoy the video and learn something from it, even if it's just for watching someone working :)
    Please share this video and subscribe to my Chanel so I can keep creating more content to share with you.

    Years ago, I did a large 12-foot high dining room in venetian plaster. It was absolutely gorgeous. Afterward, I wondered if I couldn't have saved time by using a car polisher to help with the burnishing process. Brilliant!

      Hi AI, first of all thanks for your replay. Veneer plaster is used in Spain as well to cover "gotele". I've applied veneer plaster on thousands of homes but never as a finish due to its porosity. Its has a nice shinny effect but it doesn't have any marble dust or lime in it. The application process for veneer is a lot quicker, although a lot more messy usually 😅.
      Here there is a link to what we called "gotele" if you are curious.

    When adding the pigment to the Venetian Plaster Puty, what is the recommended consistency to mix the pigment and what is the % ratio of pigment per kg of Plaster Puty? THANKS

    • @venetianplaster
      @venetianplaster  Před 4 dny +1

      @@antolinsoldadocamps8396 thanks for your comment!
      A good start for me is 1ml of tint per 1kg of product for light colours. Easy to keep track this way. In case you want it darker a 5ml/kg would be a good start.
      I used liquid tints from the paint shop, the same they used to tint acrylic paint.
      Powder tints tend to not mix properly, then little grains of tint burst when troweling the product onto the wall.
      It will require a bit of trial and error to achieve the exact colour you want.
      Good luck and I hope I could be of any help.
      Thanks again

      @antolinsoldadocamps8396 Před 4 dny +1

      Thank you, I'll try a couple of different shades. What tint did you use for the wall on this video (graphite?) How much water do you add to 100gr to get a nice consistency?. Last question, how much tint did you add for the wall ont he video? 5ml per kg?

    • @venetianplaster
      @venetianplaster  Před 4 dny +1

      @@antolinsoldadocamps8396 1 or 2ml/kg of black tint.
      Make sure to mix the product with a proper mixer, it will get a nice consistency to work with, no need to add water at all.
      Mix again when the product gets a bit hard on the drum. Keep the drum shut at all times to stoped from drying out.

    Hi there, great demo and the wall looks great. Your work also looks amazing mate! Im a painter in sydney and did the dulux course down here. There is alot to learn and I am still practicing. Was wondering why you base coated after the applying the quartz primer? Im guessing its to achieve a smoother surface over the grit however the course says to lightly scrape down the wall after applying? Also what base coat would you recommend for your method, 20?40? (nice to see someone using dulux products!)

      Hi mate, good to see other painters like myself doing Venetian. In this case I used Marmorino naturale as base coat (almost 2 coats over the entire wall) you can achieve a super smooth finish by trowel, no need for sanding plus helps with the depth look.

      Hi,
      You can use it pretty much everywhere.
      The elevated pH of the lime in the plaster acts as a fungicide, preventing mold from growing. It's been around for thousands of years using only raw materials. Its fully breathable and tough as marble.
      Not as easy to repair though..

      Hi there,
      I absolute love Morocco 😉🙌.
      You guys have Moroccan plaster or Tadelakt as an ancient technique. I use Tadelakt on wet areas with a Matt sealer (polyurethane)
      Venetian plaster or Stucco Veneziano comes as well in matt finish if you get the marmorino naturale or fine. You have the option of not doing the last step of “burnishing” and then it will appeared less shinny too.
      All my love to all your people for the recent disaster you have had 🙏

    This is by far the Most Comprehensive explanation I've seen, although I only watched like 6-8 videos and about stucco per giunti, as well.
    Coming to this, they are different, right?
    For the bee wax you're using the trowel, isn't it?
    How much do you ask for the square meter to apply it?

      Thanks mate, I truly appreciate your comment.
      It's hard to cover every aspect of this application method. However, there's always room for improvement.
      This is not "stucco per giunti", this is stucco Veneziano. I have a description on my website.
      I apply the Bee's wax with a sponge and then run the trowel over it again to achieve more polished, then removed excess with a microfibre cloth and buffer with a machine.
      Price vary so much depending on many aspects, location, access, condition, finish.. I can tell you that it is more expensive than normal solid plaster.
      Next video will be with a high polished finish.
      Thanks again.
      🙂

      I wouldn’t use this product for a wet area, let alone on an actual shower wall.
      You will need to use Tadelakt or Microcement and apply 3 coats of polyurethane water-based sealer, same used for Microcement.
      For a feature wall (like this video) minimum 3 days.
      For a wet area with the other product, its going to take around 10 days (depending on conditions)

    How would you go about repairing one section of a polished plaster wall? Would you have to re do the whole wall or can a local colour matched repair be done?

    • @venetianplaster
      @venetianplaster  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi mate, it is very difficult to repair an area and make it non visible.
      Pretty much like a touching up metallic paint on a car, you need to re do the whole wall.
      However, depending on the colour it will be less noticeable (light colours, easier to fix)

      Makes sense mate, I run a surface repair company in London, we recently had an enquiry to repair a water damaged polished plaster wall in a high end retail store. I have been exploring potential solutions but it’s not looking good, I wonder if sealing the wall with an impregnating sealer then touching up or air brushing the discoloured area with paint would work.

      Sorry to hear that, I created a full online course with more info and myself talking at the camera 😅. Hopefully I get better at it cause it was a terrifying experience.
      Check it out and let me know what you think.
      Cheers

      Hi Alfonso, thanks for your comment. Over smooth surfaces, the grit helps the base coat to adhere better onto the wall and allows you to build up some product. I found this to work best that’s why I recommended, however this is only my way of doing it 👍

      Sorry, I do not agree with you, Venetian plaster as its name claims was invented and used for hundreds of years in Venice, Italy. Where you can find the best marble and quality glass. I am sure there are similar products in Peru, but not the same. Venetian Plaster has always been expensive product if you want the best results.
      Thanks for your comment.🙂
