Thanks. Preload is set when installing gears like rotational tension on the pinion bearings average is like 30” pounds to rotate pinion and carrier with axles disconnected. you don’t want to mess with it after the gears are setup it can change pinion depth and cause bearing problems after initial setup now if you are replacing gears or pinion bearings you whould definitely be setting preload up with a good dialing indicator torque wrench inch lb one

now that you blew all the gunk out you may want to consider some of that internal frame coating--- I got mine from Eastwood. Looks like somebody made some sort of mess of that tranny crossmember, eh?

yes I need to I’ve seen the Eastwood stuff and something called cavity wax that’s a spray also 👍 the previous owner had the cross member ears cut off and moved very poorly done not sure what transmission he had I got it just as a roller I’m going to redo all that area soon need it on the lift for a few things right now

@@torque405 yeah, those 2 vertical bolts are really just for alignment....gotta have the horizontal bolt. Seemed to me that he didn't know, and did not investigate, for the adapter to mount the tranny forward.
