I loved this movie and the twist at the end. I am not a screenwriter at all, but I thought the ending would have been more dramatic and in line with Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell Tale Heart" if it turned out that Landor had the third rapist under his floorboards during the final confrontation with Poe. Better still if there were only subtle thumps at the boards while Poe was about to leave, as he wonders if it was just his imagination or if Landor had one last murder yet to commit! :0

I feel as though they must've had that ending in mind at some point, if they didn't straight film it. Otherwise how does Landor feel his daughter has been avenged?

It is, but Netflix didn't push the film enough with critics groups, so it's unlikely to get the Oscar support it deserves

I am actually using this movie as a case study relating to literature, and I must say it is so underrated, for most Poe's readers if we dig a little deeper throughout the movie or the novel by Bayard, we'll find out that there's more to find about poe's stories but in a very symbolic way, thanks for the good explanation, keep it up!!

Today, March 13th, (Or, is it the 17th, as some sites indicate?) is Harry Melling's birthday, and he turns thirty-four! Regardless, let's raise a glass of cheer and wish all of the best to a fine actor, and a Poefect performance.

@Yisroel Konovitch I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't think it was good after the 2nd reveal.
      1. Poe getting mad at Augustus about Lea. "She could've been a mother." No bro she was going to become a murderer by sacrificing you. Smh. Illogical and out of character.
      2. Augustus was able to drag Poe and the Mother out. But the brother couldn't even carry the sister out of danger? (He's an elite cadet who is in better shape than Augustus).
      3. What was guiding their sacrifice? They were never murderers but then were going to be murderers if they successfully sacrificed poe. So what other sacrifices did they perform to prolong Leas life? And why not just repeat those sacrifices?
      4. Poe obviously didn't consent to being sacrificed because he was drugged and when he was waking up Lea had to explain herself to him. But yet Poe wasn't against being sacrificed. He just said "I do love you" to Lea and even got mad at Augustus for saving him.
And just more flaws. Some of the flaws do make sense, but the conclusions just wasn't satisfying, it was more dumb.

DO NOT - DO NOT! WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU SEE THE FILM, which is incredible!! if you love the cinema, love good writing about real human psychology, and love all the cinematic ways to create an historic film, watch the FILM FIRST!! in a way, think Ingmar Bergman and the way he shot his scenes. there is a similarity of look and feel.

that’s your opinion!! you should say that. it is not my opinion, nor anyone’s who knows good cinema. the relationship between the two is complicated and emotional. Melling was incredible!! Christian Bale is always so human and so dramatically controlled, yet set free.
