Ruth, you are such a treasure, you do not know. Today I woke up...and thought..Saturday! Ruth...I put my puppy in her cage so I can enjoy moments of bliss w you. I will share this in person w my mom, who is 101...we have watched many of your videos together,,,
Awe!!! Tell your mama I said hi!!!!
I really love all your videos! Thank you💕
Love your videos and learning so much.
Thank you!
You are providing your children a wonderful childhood. I smiled when your daughter pulled out her book while stirring the white sauce. 😊
I used to read while barbecuing on the grill. After I 🔥 enough meat, my husband took over grilling😅. Win! I even had one farm cat that yowled when meat was burning😊
I would prop a book on our wide window sill while washing dishes...it took me so long! Mom didn't always let me get away with that shenanigan!😂
My mom is home with the Lord these days and my daddy is 87. What we call homesteading they called life. They had me later in life but I grew up much in the way you are raising your family. Now I am raising 2 of my grandbabies as much that way as possible. I think it makes for better humans. LOL Love your channel.
They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit...at almost 70 I am claiming that thought as I continue on homesteading and prepping.
Great video! My husband retired and has decided to take over making supper which is nice but involves a learning curve. This week we mastered meatloaf and hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy. It has been fun, but definitely a slow process. The biggest thing we have conquered is not adding too much salt. I always tell him you can always add more, but you can't take it out. Your videos are great lessons for someone learning to cook. Your children are such a great help! Thank you for showing your patience in breaking things down to being simple to do.
That's a lovely video capture (at about 10:35) when you were boiling the chicken broth. The steam from the pot, superimposed on the sunshine in the background, looks like you are cooking a pot of flames! Gorgeous!
I loved that shot too!!!
I Know! That was phenomenal!
I thought the same thing!
I love how your daughter is reading while cooking❤ I'm from a family of huge readers!
Yes. My girls are all avid readers.
I thought the same thing!
Best advise ever, I did this with breakfast biscuits, now I don’t even measure! It truly does become second nature. Thank you
LOVE a girl who can cook & read at the same time!! (@ 14:35 min)
Thank you for your dedication/hard work in doing these videos.
We IMMENSELY appreciate you and yours❤
It’s like going back 70 years and watching my mama cook. Except mama, for a family of nine, used about one fifth of the meat you used and three times the beans. Meat was hard to come by. We never minded. It was delicious. 😊
WHAT KINDNESS, PEACEFULNESS and HARMONY is in your home. We on the 'outside looking in' no doubt marvel at this .. as in: 'YES. This is attainable and possible. Welcome to Love.' My heart swells. Thank you.
Happy Saturday with a sweet video from RuthAnn!! Yummy winter recipes. Loved seeing Hadassah multi-tasking with reading her book while she stirs something on the stove...just made me smile to see this lovely young woman, so skillful in the kitchen! At my age my multi-tasking days are pretty much done for, but I love listening to an audiobook if the recipe or chore isn't too involved. Enjoy your pre-wedding happy busyness! Thank you for your faithfulness in creating educational and heart-warming videos for your fans and friends! Blessings, Marie
Thank you for these kind words!!!
You are such a great teacher. I love the way you incorporate the children into your cooking and cleaning up meals. Outside chores they never feel like they’re the only one doing chores.
Thank you for sharing your methods. I hope more young mothers fallow your advice. Teach them young and they will have the knowledge for a lifetime. The old say give a man a fish feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish feed him for life. I probably have it not exactly C right but you get the picture.
May you and your family be Blessed.
May your daughter and her new husband be Blessed. When is the new baby coming?
I thankyou from the bottom of my heart for sharing your beautiful family and lifestyle. I am 54 and wish I had you in my ear when I was raising our children and supporting my family while my husband was away with the military. I have excitedly learnt so much from you and you brighten my day. thank you xxxx from Australia xxxx
I am a single working mom but have been making your sandwich bread the past few weeks. We love it and my teen boys use it for their school lunches, with dinner or a snack! I enjoy your channel. Thanks so much!
Wow, good for you!
I love every thing about you and family you are a big blessing to my life pray for me God bless you and your family so sweet I love you ❤️ you’re a very caring humble mom cook. Hard worker but your children help do so did we. God is Good salad dressing sounds so yummy good salad gotta have a great dressing God bless your sweet day ❤
You have a address where I can send you things ????
Please I sure live to have it
You have it on this
Love the easy way you recognize and acknowledge that you teach tasks by keeping the children on track.
One of the things I enjoy about your videos is watching how much your kids help. That is really special in today's society. One of the things my mom used to put in her ham and beans to stretch them was little square dumplings (homemade). I do it also once in awhile also to change up the menu.
Hello Tammy, How are you?
I love the cooking videos. The hardest thing is what's for dinner! Everyone wants I don't know or I don't care. I love watching the kids help out.
Yes! I reply back” I don’t care either “… until I start getting some useful feedback:)
I enjoy these glimpses into your daily routine. 4 of my 6 children have left the nest and I truly miss that time of my life. Each child had a day for cooking and we all rotated through the chores. ❤
I only have one child, who is 31 now. I miss the daily routines of cooking for him, and seeing him enjoy his meals. I miss it all, but such is life. I completely understand how you feel.
Your advice is spot on!! I’m a retired teacher, and that is exactly how it works! I learned to cook from my mother and grandmother, and it was a process. By the time I had my three kids, it was second nature. Now that I’m retired, I’m diving back into sourdough and trying new things. I love your videos!!
I didn't really enjoy cooking until I retired as a public assistance caseworker.
Another wonderful visit with you & your family in the kitchen! You meals look delicious & satisfying.
I've been heavy hearted the last few days & when I got to the end of your video & watched head's bowed in prayer & thanksgiving it made my heart smile.
Thank your for sharing your kitchen & your family!
I also enjoyed everyone at the table and heads bowed in prayer
I agree with mastering skills. I'll keep a basic recipe and add tons of notes until it's mine. Then i write it down and it goes in my notebook ❤
Loved today’s video. I was so glad to see more of Maxwell and Mitchell. I know Mitchell is busy and working but Maxwell must hide from the camera. They are all blessed to be raised this way. ❤️I’m curious about the wedding food and how you will accomplish it. I have no doubt you have it figured out though. ❤
Yes Maxwell prefers outside chores and doesn’t willingly choose kitchen work.
I've been , preoccupied, overwhelmed, and just caught up in stuff, I've missed your videos , thank you so much. I planted a ton of tomatoes hoping yo can them with you this fall saving your recipes now ....
I have worked in pediatrics 30 plus years, (RN) seeing your 3 boys....I dont know your story w them. I imagine your big heart rescued them...are u able 2 share...notice 2 of 3 boys more often...
Congratulations to the winner! So excited for them! :) Great video Ruthann~! I thought for sure Mitchell was growing by leaps and bounds and I somehow missed it when he was standing at the sink, but then realized he had a step stool under him. Won't be long, I am sure :) Have an awesome weekend!
God Bless your family on the upcoming wedding
I am in the Highlands of Scotland and I started canning 3 years ago. In Scotland people don’t can, they make jams and pickles but they don’t can meats or sauces. My canner caused a whole lot and the the jars 😮 but now I have 6 months of canned protein and 3 months of tomato sauce
Congratulations to the winner !!!!
I hope all goes well with the wedding, I know it is a lot of work so don’t worry about a video, you just make that wedding a dream wedding for your kids…..and try to get a little rest !!!
Love from your northern neighbor up here in Minnesota ❤
Blessings
For sure!!
Do not worry about a video.
That wedding will only be once!
Mmmaybe 😊 that way, we will get to see more wedding shots!
Von du kannsht❤
Hello from Eastern Iowa! Glad to see another Iowa homesteader on CZcams! 😊 I love to see the kids being so hands on in the kitchen!
Hello to you also from southeast Iowa!❤
Great job Hadassah! It is great that children learn to cook. All four of my boys learned how to cook.
Good seeing your channel I could watch you daily! How exciting for your daughter’s wedding
A couple ideas for getting kids involved in the kitchen would be to let them pick out a recipe they would like to make, and also, don't be in a hurry when working with them so they don't feel pressured or stressed. 🥰
2 weeks out from the wedding - SO exciting! I absolutely love watching you RuthAnn. Ur videos are so peaceful for me ☺️
Yay! Thank you!
I love your philosophy on mastering new skills, makes total sense. I am preparing for surgery next month and concentrating on freezer meals for two. ❤your channel.
You have a beautiful family. I love when your children enjoy cooking and/or help you!
Hello RuthAnn and sweet family! Good advice for anyone that is trying to cook from scratch.
I guess I was taught that by my mother and grandmothers.
Everything you fix always looks delicious. I had that same coffee cup with the strawberries on it, was my favorite coffee cup.
Congratulations aprylenjoyinglife 🎉
Have a blessed weekend everyone!
Your children will leave your home with way more skills than most of us had a young adults! Congratulations for raising children that will be self sustaining and productive citizens!🙂❤
All of the recipes look wonderful!
Congratulations to the winner. Another wonderful video. Thank you so much for sharing.❤😊
How exciting for the wedding that is coming up soon ❤️. I hope you enjoy the celebration of this new chapter of your children getting
married. Blessings to you and your family.
My goodness, the children are growing fast! Have been binging your videos lately and it's precious to see their growth in so many areas.
Ruthann, I wanted to tell you that I tried your sourdough recipe for the first time. I am soooo happy I did! I have finally found someone (you) who has given step by step instructions (down to the hour) of how to make really good sourdough bread and full proof!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I really wish you had a cookbook. I would buy it in a heartbeat, but until then I will gladly watch your videos and enjoy every minute.;0)
I have found since I was a small girl that I was allergic to lots of store canned and prefab foods. So growing up in the 60's,70's,and 80's my mom went back to cooking everything from scratch. And that is still how I do it today. My older children now understand that convenience is not always healthy. I told them if you can't pronounce it you don't want it. Love to see you and your family each week.
I was wondering i have already started my plants from seeds was wondering if you do the same? I grow fresh herbs all year long. I do dry some.
She’s amazing young lady! She will go far in life!
Hello Ms Ruth: I have to tell you I just love how you have your children helping out not only with housework but cooking meals! It is awesome how your daughter reads while cooking the white sauce lol and your sons get right in there with pealing potatoes as well as doing the dishes! Your recipes are easy to follow and so delicious 🤤😋🤤😋 Thank y'all for all you do. May God bless you and your family. I want to make a trip up north of where I live in Ohio to visit the Mennonite places to shop. You have stirred in me a desire to do more canning and making bread. I am always learning even at 70 yrs old. I appreciate you so much ❤️🥰🤗😘😇😇🤤😋😋🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love Hadassah reading her book while stirring the white sauce😄
Our favorite homemade dressing is the Dorothy Lynch recipe that uses tomato soup, oil, vinegar, sugar, water, salt, pepper and celery seed. I make a quart jar almost weekly and we use it for salads, to dip veggies and my oldest likes it as a sweet and vinegary chip dip/sauce! Wedding blessings for a long and happy marriage to your daughter!
😊 Love that your channel seems to be growing quickly! 170K. Awesome and well-deserved!
So happy for your family with the upcoming wedding! 🙏🏻
As far as ideas for getting kids involved in the kitchen, how about showing a tutorial on teaching kids how to use knives safely? That's not really how to get them involved though, just an idea in general.
It's a start though! I like this idea. I can't think of a recipe I've made lately that doesn't involve chopping something. My youngest daughter was never interested in learning to cook, so now at 17 she's finally wanting to learn. I have to play the part of sous chef each time. She's terrified to chop her own ingredients. I regret not finding a way to teach her when she was younger
J'adore vos vidéos RuthAnn. Your children seems so happy!!!!
This is my favorite channel. I’ve learned so much. I started like you suggested with bread. I make your soft sandwich bread and your hamburger rolls all the time. I no longer buy store bread. I want to encourage others to start small like you suggested it works and is such a blessing to our family.
Thank you so much for the fabulous prize I received and by the way that casserole looked DELISH!!
I had not heard of the name Hadassah before. I looked it up and the meaning is so beautiful.
Hello Shirley, How are you?
Ruthann, this video made my heart glad. I'm especially glad you had chance to visit with your mom and sisters.
It's none of my business, and I don't know your whole family's story, but in the Amish communities nearby my grandparents, if you left the Amish, you were shunned by the entire Amish community, including your own family. There were Mennonites nearby as well, but not the horse and buggy kind, and I'm not sure what their practice was when someone chose to leave the order.
I always found the shunning practice heartbreaking.
I hope by now you have found a salad dressing recipe that the bride and groom think delicious!
Please do not worry about dropping a new video the week of the wedding! We can always watch some of your older videos 😊
Hello, How are you? Wishing you Happy New year full with joy and wonderful moments.
Enjoyed this week’s video, RuthAnn, as always. Thank you for taking us along! ❤ xo
I absolutely love seeing a Mom teaching her children. ❤️❤❤
Law, girl it's like being back at mama's home, with all your food. ❤❤❤
You are so right about the brain space! I am learning how to bake all sorts of bread and it was so difficult at first. But I kept going and now it's so much easier for me to do. I sometimes manage to make a good loaf of bread without looking at the recipe and that is saying something... 😀Thank you for this great video.
I certainly learned tricks for the chicken and ham soup that I never ever thought about b4.
Thank you sooooo much.
Your cutting board is beautiful. Thank you as always for the great recipe ideas.
😯 that came up quick as weddings tend to do
I have been changing my grocery shopping. I include more vegetables. And broths that I heat now to drink. You’re right only one thing at a time.
What is blessing to have meat you grow yourself. That ham and potato casserole looks delicious. I’ve steered away from canned soups. They just taste like chemicals to me. Something changed, Either my taste buds or their recipe 🤷♀️.
Lovely video this week. Thank you ❤
Ruthann every time I watch you homestead videos, I truly smile in friendship Love at your honesty and personality. You just bring this Old Nana such Joy. I hope your momma knows how special you are 😉💕Agape’ NanaB
Wow, thank you
Enjoy all of your videos! Looking forward to more wedding prep and wedding if possible ❤
So inspiring! Thanks for your work!
I cut my celery and freeze it in bags for stew or soup It works well for me that way. Thanks for all your advice I love cows chickens and pigs Had them all whenI was growing up. NEW BRUNSWICK CANADA
Ruth Ann... My favorite time of the week has officially become the time that I spend watching your videos! You are the most amazing, real and enjoyable person on CZcams! Hope you and your family have an amazing week! I can hardly wait for the wedding!
Hello Nancy, How are you?
I love starting my Saturdays with you! Looking forward to seeing you and the family next Saturday already! Enjoy your week dear RuthAnn!
We just had ham and potato casserole last night-it was yummy but I sure wish I would have thought to add green beans! Yum! I’ll definitely do that next time! I so enjoyed teaching my kiddos in the kitchen-4 adults now but I’ve been quite lazy about this youngest son he is 14 and way overdue for some cooking lessons! I’m adding that to my 2024 goals!!!
Hello, How are you?
Congratulations to the winner, how exciting for her. I have been slowly trying to replace the grocery store. Its definitely a process, but so worth it. Thank you for this video. Best of luck with the final preparations for your daughter's wedding.
To help with the "What to make for supper" question, we're using a tip from my Mother-in-law. She would ask my Father-in-law to go out to the freezer and pick what he'd like her to make for supper. I always thought that was a brilliant idea because that alleviates half the battle. My husband takes 2 meat choices from the freezer to thaw in the fridge and then I can decide how to prepare them.
What a great idea! That’s the worst part of homekeeping to me.
What a wonderful jam packed video! It is always fun to watch you and your family all working together to get meals ready. The younger boys are growing so much and all of the kids kitchen skills are impressive. Consider the ripple affect you are causing - One mom teaches 7 children cooking / gardening / homesteading skills and they will each teach their own the same. Amazing! Your encouraging approach is just what is needed to get anyone to venture out and learn to do something new. You allow us the privilege of joining you in your kitchen and go through the process in real life. Seeing it happen is better than reading it. You show how you adapt to mistakes, be it too much butter in the crackers or all the meat, broth and bones being mix together in the fridge, and that is how life often is. For a new wife, mom or just a new cook, seeing this makes you realize that things don't have to be perfect for you to make a good meal if you think outside the box and find a solution. I wish I could have had someone like you when I was starting out. I didn't know how to cook when I got married and my patient and loving husband ate some strange things for the first few years. I was blessed by his kindness and encouragement through my struggles. We are celebrating our 42nd Anniversary this year and he is still my very best friend. I'm excited for you and your daughter with the upcoming wedding. I hope you all have fun, the weather is beautiful and the entire event is filled with love. God's blessings to all of you!
Thank you for this beautiful comment!!! May God continue bless your marriage

You are such an amazing person! I am so glad I found your channel. We all do place so much pressure on ourselves to learn it all and do it all. You are wise beyond words. One task at a time.
I love that you make realistic big family portions!
