You can pick up a used fuel cap for free in a lot of states, usually they’re just left unattended at the fuel island with a tractor attached to it

I’m brand new to driving a semi and definitely still learning! Especially backing up. I literally just drove 1000 with out putting both fuel caps back on!! I was in a hurry and it was raining!!! Lesson learned

You should always lock your fuel so no one dumps sugar in the tank.
You also should get a locking cap for the Def tank it's $100 but we'll worth the sabotage insurance.

I was at the Petro in Kingman AZ one time and saw someone pull the fifth wheel lever on someone in the fuel island, I hurried in and found the driver and told him, he was so grateful because he says to me if you hadn't have told me I might have dropped the trailer because i sometimes forget to check every time before I leave, In all my years of driving that's one thing I have never had happen is fuel cap stolen, have had fuel stolen though
I'm glad you told the guy. Even if he was taking his 30 in the island and deserved it, nobody really deserves that.

They make locking fuel caps that can be keyed to the truck ignition key so you only need one key.
If it makes ya feel better someone cut my mudflap up in sioux falls South Dakota the other day. Still can’t wrap my head around why people do these kinds of things
Seeing other people go through bad stuff doesn't make me feel better. Just makes me wonder about the state of some people nowadays.

I put those locking caps on my truck. Major pain in the ass. Winter is fun. When the key won’t go in, take your mini torch to the keyhole to thaw it out. You can torch the key too.
I took mine back off and put the stock ones back on.
Maybe I'll just run Arizona to Florida this winter 😂

@@JJtheTrucker When your ready to be your own FM you’ll know. Prime was an excellent environment to learn the basics. I’m happy to have spent time there. However, I’m glad I moved to the next step. A lot more money and a ton of freedom over at Landstar.

Yeah I'm definitely getting a set of locking caps for my company truck at Schneider. $115-$150 a piece is crazy expensive, but I would rather just get the locking ones now, use them and not have to worry about someone siphoning my fuel or just stealing my cap. Even if it's not a good lock they have on them not really anyone will go through the trouble to pick lock a fuel cap. I know some people will go that far, but not likely.
Had a buddy who worked at Schneider too who had his fuel caps stolen off his truck 3 times! Company driver or not, I would really just rather not deal with someone taking my fuel cap like that lol.
So it's a good * kind of expensive* but good investment.

Sucks about the fuel cap being stolen. Never had that happen, I have had fuel stolen from me twice at the petro in Amarillo. At least they were nice enough to put the caps back on so no rain got into my tank. I’m now actually carrying a brick with me just in case I ever stop at the petro in Amarillo, I’d love to stay up and see if anyone pulls up and tried to steal fuel. They’ll get a nice brick thrown at their windshield.

Could be worse, my truck got broken into when I went home, nothing was stolen just ran sacked. I feel sorry for the day I'm in my truck and someone breaks into it, it's all fun and games until someone used to have that cap and they still got the key and need one and they see yours...just a thought

Say your driving on I 80 middle of nowhere, been driving for say 3 hours ? You stop at a rest stop, come back and realize the reefer stopped working 3 hours ago, would the load be close to being lost, what kind of timeframe do you have to get service? Or do you have a notification in cab letting you know it stopped working ?
Prime has a good setup for this. If anything happens to the reefer (sops working, goes out of temp range, gets turned off or someone changes the settings), I get notifications every 15 minutes via the Qualcomm and on the app.

Some Prime truck lost the entire tire set from the back of his trailer right inside of town here in Batavia NY. They gave the reason how it would have occurred but little over my mechanical skills.

Really? I'd hope that he'd see this video and realize what a low grade piece of s#!7 he is and how he's managing his finances so poorly that with as much as we Truckers make, he can't even afford to buy his own fuel cap. If I had to do that and watch this video to see the guy I stole from (who has the same job) could easily afford to replace the cap the very next day, I'd hate my life.

Is there money in the damn fuel cap?!?! Wtf! Lol do they make fuel caps with locks? I spoke to soon about locking no need to answer….though would you yank it hard enough to pull the cap out and having the metal peice get into the tank?
The metal piece is kinda spring loaded, so it bends when being pulled out. I didn't realize that until I removed my passenger side cap and just yanked it right out without having to stick my hand in the tank.
But yeah, I think these things must be made of gold or something for that price 😂

I have seen videos of truckers having so many things either stolen off their trucks, tires slashed or just messed with... Sounds like some truckers are complete assholes. So much for a brotherhood.. One bad apple spoils the bunch..

No, it was there when I got out, because I was going to start fueling and took it off (the chain was still holding it) and when I came back it was gone.
