The Jag won't spit a cam chain out and bugger up the engine like a bmw either
i have been driving many years {i have a max. no claims bonus on insurance} and the X.F. 2.2 DIESEL 190 B.H.P IS FAST ENOUGH AND ECONOMICAL ENOUGH FOR ANYONE WELL DONE BY JAGUAR AND THE BRITISH WORKER AND THANKS TO THE INDIA FIRM FOR INVESTING IN US
Ok. Yes it was a sarcastic dig at the reviewer.
I love the Jag.Its a stunning car. And the fact that some of its engines are ford modeo derived is hardly an insult when the mondeo is also one of the best cars in its class. High spec Audis such as the A6 and TT also use the same engines as can be found in lowly Skodas and VWs etc...Its standard practice these days and no bad thing either. Cars are cheaper to service and repair as a result, and parts are easier to find and often interchangeable.
The very fact that its neither a Mercedes nor a BMW its what makes it so interesting in my eyes.
I'm bored out of my skull of seeing Mercs and Beemers all over the damn place.
EXACTLY, can anyone keep track of how many different models and combination of letters and symbols Mercedes or BMW have?
I have waited for years for this 2.2 a Jag I want and can afford. Now that they have made it I am going to the showroom very shortly to place an order. There is one more thing I think Jaguar are forgetting and something I would consider in the Future and that is the v12 engine and badge. The icing on the cake.
jaaaag is best looking car bmw is best looking taxi,,
I like Jags drive an older one myself, BMW's and Mercedes an Audis are a dime a dozen here, and nobody looks twice at them, and how the birds love a Jaguar! lol
To Jaguar,
Keep working at it. Just because you didn't do it this time doesn't mean next time you can't or won't. Just keep working at it.
I own a 2011 3L D S premium luxury 279bhp, it's quiet smooth and goes like fuk ⚡🚗💨
And the 20inch wheels make it look sexy ✨
I wouldnt hesitate jaguar all the way.
I have owned and daily driven an XF 2.2D for a few years (and so have my dad) and afterwards had 2x different F10 520d's (one normal and one M Sport) and from my experience the Jag was the betrer car.
Jag gave me significantly better fuel ecconomy and was faster than the BMW.
The XF also looks better and feels more special on the interior.
The Jag was quite reliable but do think the BMW would do better in that regard.
I prefer my 3.0L. The twin exhausts look awesome. I had an X-type 2.2 with 157bhp. It was ok but pretty slow. When I see a 2.2L XF - I think Cheapskate. For me the Jag looks great - way better than a 5 series.
Can’t be same engine?
2.2, avoid the 3.0 (chocolate engines), and the 2.0 in the later ones are horrendous. The 2.2 is the DW12, the 2.2 version of the 2.0 DW10 thats in the black mondeo. Only thing to watch on XFs is windscreens leak, any steamed windows etc walk away, the electrics under the seats cop for the water that comes in and corrode the connections on the ECUs, other than that they are really good cars. Cambelts are 72k or 5 years.
@@KKTR3 I can’t believe I posted this 10 years ago. I have since had an XF sport 3.0 (297bhp diesel) it was very good. A 2.0 180bhp XF (slow as anything). Now I’m in an xe Reims edition (very nice).
@@twintron as I’m old -following my trusted mechanic, friends advice- it’s the 2.2 200bhp I am looking at going for 2014
@weedmastersr Don't blame them. They're still on fifth gear....while Porsche's reached 7.
the black buttons don't look as nice as the old silver ones, is there still an option for silver buttons
Great! Beautiful car.
You buy a BMW with your head.
You buy a Jaguar with your heart.
The former puts a smile on your face when you get out.
The latter makes feel like you don't want to get out.
....Just drive....
Exactly, people attempt to slag Jagaur s-types and say its a ford, and when I tell them its not, I'm still angry that there slagging ford anyway, like whats so wrong with ford that its a bad thing if jagaur did share parts? And yes the 2.2 is a ford/peaguet/citeron derived engine. VW is really just as good as Audi in my opinion, nearly all audi engines are VW, and seat and skoda's engines are all last gen Vw's. Even the porchse cayenne uses the same body as the touareg, plus the V6 hybrid engine
Well, what a suprise! The Brit reviewer didn't try to reccomend the Jag based on stupid cliches like "it has more soul than a german car" or "it's more beautiful and special than a German car"...
The 23 fans managed to push the silly 'soul' thing in people's view though ;)
Who's watching their pennies and buying a Jaguar anyway? I think people buying cars this nice buy what suits them best and ignore the small price differences.
Me
BMW's and Merc's are the iPhones of the car world...overpriced, they all look the same, everybody wants one even though there are far better options out there.
But remember,that that modern BMW, crummy in comparison Jaguar XF, or E Class will break down within 5 years.......... My dad got a 2009 5 Series when it was brand new, broke in 2014!! 😭😭
My 2009 GS350 has 300,000 km on the clock, and is still running like a clock!! And the hand stiched Japanese calf hide seats, and full hand scraped mahogany is UNBEATABLE compared to "MB TEX", or the joke of BMW pleater and plastic! 😂😂
@@SURENITY nonsense I have the xf 2.2 and it's FAR more reliable than the gs300 where locks failed and gearbox and stereo. Real world the xf is more durable
Were in 2024 and my '13 with nearly 170k miles does 46mpg whilst driving 80mph and over
@juukame Fifth gear is still around, their new season started last week
Why dont you mention the model year of the car? What year was the face lift?
Facelift year: 2011.
Why the utter fuck would you chose a bmw or a merc over this......WHY?
Oh, he just doesn't know any better.
I'm talking about the cost of the tax disk. And the Jag cost 31k, not a million.
i'm confused i thought fifth gear wasn't on anymore; are they just doing web videos now?
I have an E60 530i. It's worse than my old E39 528i. I hate it. I've already done 16k miles in it and it's just bloody annoying. IMO, BMW are going backwards. Every 5 they make, is worse than the E39. Jaguar's cars are getting better, XF is far better than S-Type.
Which color is that Jag?
Speaking of the BMW 520d: Could you please show us a test of the new 525d with the four cylinder engine? I think that while it is a very logical thing to have that engine in that car (the 23d engine was as powerful and more economic than the old 25d 6 cyl.), it might be interesting to find out whether it makes you as "happy" as a 6 cyl does.
it doesn't match the BMW.... IT DESTROYS IT! It's just so much more refined and better looking.
Ditto
How the heck can you say the BMW is better, to make the 520d any good you have to put so many options on it... and the jag is more refined, better looking and... it's a jag.
What a stupid conclusion.
My opinion? Jaguar ended in the late 90´s. Sad but true.
Alfa Romeo 166 is the glamorous executive car of our times.
Are BMW Paying fifth gear? The Jag is far better then the BMW! BMW's are boring, the interiors are crap and too much alike to the rest of the range.... The XF has being given all its awards for a reason; ITS FANTASTIC! The XF is far more desirable!
A Jaguar with 4 cylinders is not a Jaguar. I don't mind the diesel engine but it should be at least 6 cylinders, doesn't have to be a big 6, just more than 4.
My beautiful sleak Jaguar is the most beautiful car on the road I have 2012 2.2 diesel in delicious pale metallic blue, we are in wonder of its lines, it’s little purrr, I don’t care it’s not the fastest, it’s fast enough to leave the silly little boys agog. Thankyou Jaguar, I love you all...
jaguar=love
BMW has seriously upped their game
Has there ever been a car reviewer that haven't been inspired by Jeremy Clarkson?
how did you do it can you share with me , thank you
Indian firm TATA is not an investor, its the owner of JLR
merc bmw and audi has great cars , just like any other carbrand, this car looks amazing and indeed a little tiny in space but who cares, if you don't like it go for another car , everyone has opinions , I'm glad I can afford a medium class car like this !
Love how Jaguar make it look like they make the engine when its really from Ford at least they make there own petrol and diesels engines again with the new ingenium range along side the V6s & V8s
Daryl Yates this car is 6 years old, as is the review. The new XF uses the jaguar ingenium engines. Totally their own.
pashton76 I know that it's from 2011 what I meant was with the 2.2 Diesel engine in these XFs and other JLR products such as the Evoque were Ford units and JLR made it look it they made them I mentioned that they now make there own engines now

But will it blend?
Actually, Audi normally start the trend/technology..i.e. engines/parts/chassis. and then when Audi are finished with them, the parts/engines/chassis are handed down the lower end of the group. Of course Porsche, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Bentley are part of the same group so influences are taken off each other. Makes High End VAG/Porsche Group cars excellent IMHO.
Cars have internal combustion engines,. Not motors
The funny thing is, if you have money to buy these cars brand new, fuel economy shouldnt be an issue.
No, but if you want to sell it on to the next guy that doesn’t have as much money, it definitely is so forth and so on
@TheVtieg6 right on, S for the win
I like driving it
Agreed, as much as i love this Jag, like every other car, its not perfect.
Tiny diesel in a big jag, I don't think I've ever yawned so hard.
A whole new engine!!! (from the ford mondeo......)
not a ford engine you muppet
@TheVtieg6: good choice.
Very nice
It handes much better than a F10 IMO.
The 5 series is plain and boring both inside and out. In my opinion its ugly. I'd defiantly have the jag!!!
Fuck the BMW 5 series... its dull and boring. The Jaaaaag's good looks and charm make up for the few hundred quid difference!!
....this car honestly left me disappointed. test drived this car last week at my local dealer. exterior gorgeous, looks massive, but inside its tiny, especially in the back. materials are cheap, seats are uncomfortable and the 160bhp version is loud and slow. was planning to move from an a6 to this car.....no chance! awaiting arrival of new bmw 5 :)
Who doesn't have HD videos these days?
a 5 star car according to autocar, no. Is it good? yes
new volvo s 90 is a winner....
@khunopie It is JAG-u-eh. NOT JAG-war.
@jo05dk Only when you have money to spare, which in the case you probably wouldn't get a diesel.
@ratpie Yea you're right :)
@alphaswimmer55 it's JAG-warrr . The brits always speak like they have a mouthful of biscuits
Props to a Brit admitting the BMW is better than the British car.
@sadragne1 I was in the same situation a few years back and I understand it sucks but but they still should have the option for the people with good internet and computers to watch it in HD since the technology is available.And yes we are spoiled and we take everything for granted but its just the way it is when everything is offered to you.I understand this because I grew up in a shitty ghetto that made my life miserable but never give up in trying to get a better life !
Did I say or in any way imply that it was a "problem"? As you seem to be so enraged by.
Did I say there was anything "wrong" with the Ford either....?
I'm looking and I don't see anything there that suggests I did.
My comment was aimed at the inaccuracy of the reviewers statement. Not the car, or its engine.
Stop implying things that have absolutely no basis and take a fucking chill pill!
@MacGyver920 Yea maybe they're to poor to buy the equipment for HD filming:))
Tata owns jaguar FINANCIALLY. They don't share any parts nor does indian people design jaguars today. c'mon people.
easy peasy like bangers and mash
@weedmastersr Yeah.
It was a very ironicly written comment, but I will now admit that I did indeed blow a gasket, and I completley misinterpreted what you really wrote, and for that I'm going to do something that is not seen very often on youtube and Appoligise. I was wrong, however Jaguar is always being slagged, or used to be, for being Fords ect, when this isnt the case at all. I'm constantly on the battle field with that one, so I just thought you were one of the TROLLS. Sorry man :L
Penny pinching?? More like, Treasury Asset pinching?
£130? Damn my Megane 1.6 costs me £242..FFS!
But the car itself costs 1 million pounds. Approximately.
Actually the Skoda superb has the new engines, as does the octavia.
It has for years.
Pre '10 it didn'.
@ 1:42 That's one nasty door closing sound. Too much rattling.
These facelift elements actually ruin the car for me. Wheels are not smarter - good but nothing that special, new headlights are a step back - they look like lifted straight from the XJ, thus the car looses its own "face", character even....IMHO of course.
If u r cheap, u shouldnt buy a jag to begin with
you pay a lot more for a used bmw and mercedes where i live. so i would say it is the other way around
Jeez, did they film this using a potato.
Absolutely do not buy the 2.2d, buy the 3.0td XF s. I have had both. The XFS 3.0s 275bhp does exactly the same MPG as the 2.2, and is silky smooth and much more reliable. Plus the 2.2 diesel spoils the entire car, doesn’t feel like a jag.
2.2, avoid the 3.0 (chocolate engines), and the 2.0 in the later ones are horrendous. The 2.2 is the DW12, the 2.2 version of the 2.0 DW10 thats in the black mondeo. @sarokas12 lol you remember that well :D
Since when has Jaguar been plural? Perhaps I should ask "Since when have Jaguar been plural?" Let's sort out the grammar, please.
.... which the jag is!!!
@weedmastersr The BBC.
@krunal467 Yea they're special .... in bad way :))
But remember,that that modern BMW, crummy in comparison Jaguar XF, or E Class will break down within 5 years.......... My dad got a 2009 5 Series when it was brand new, broke in 2014!! 😭😭

Buy a bmw instead of a jaguar is the same thing as buy a flat in the city center when you want a house in the countryside.
A shame still it is not that far off so.. for some it might just but what they seek.
It's Jag-war NOT Jag-you-are!
@TheONEWELL Off course they do look at Top Gear they rave about anything German and hate anything British unless it's a supercar! I have owned Rovers for the past 10 years and German cars are nice and such but there lifeless and are just too... well clean and boring! That's what I think!
@ktrenchfield Hahah!!!
Diesel engine in a jag? 😂🤣🤣
Yes, engine, not motors
@sarokas12 by Autocar won Bmw 520D :) Jaguar on second place, than audi and merecedes
But still a British company ;)
Get these stupid ADVERTS OFF You Tube I am sick of them!
Good looking car, but I would still go to the Germans.
@weedmastersr FIFTHGEARUK :P
Sorry but Fifth Gear gets worse and worse all the time Autocar Picks the Jag over the BMW!!! Saying "So even three years on, the Jaguar remains the executive car of choice"
Autocar issue 6th July 2011
Fifth Gear... Your fired!
yeah right. The most failed luxury car. Ford did itself a favour by selling it. So long.
Get a BMW instead.
