    I just picked up the Chief Wahoo road hat and love it. I’m glad that NE stuck with keeping the logo as it was in the 80’s and 90’s, it being bigger than what the most recent Wahoo logo was.

    I just discovered your channel, thanks for creating it in the first place! I got my first New Era cap back in 1996 (an on-field Yankees for just over $20 complete with the old tagging) and this video really takes me back.
    If I'm not mistaken, team logos on hats from that era, as well as the MLB logos on the back, didn't protrude outward nearly as much as they do nowadays, they're very much three-dimensional.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 2 lety

      Yes, you got it - in fact that was a major point with the Retro collection in this review - they returned to the flat stitching on the logos, rather than the raised or lofted embroidery of modern caps. Thanks for the comments!

    How is the sizing on the retro classic vs. polyester on-fields?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před rokem

      They are the same, which is to say that they can vary a lot from cap-to-cap - the fabrication process is the same. I've done other videos comparing Wool to Poly, but sizing from the factory is not anything I've noted in those comparisons, thanks.

  • @Chriswasreigns
    @Chriswasreigns Před rokem

    What I’m wondering is how the beim is compared to the new models. Is it kinda soft like the old ones or is it pretty stiff like the newer one?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před rokem +1

      Assuming you meant "brim," New Era has been very consistent in using a visor that is a blend between plastic (resin) and cardboard (fiber) - the main variation I see is from site of manufacture. Unfortunately this Retro Classic collection is no longer available, but the Pirates cap I own has a visor that tends to be a little bit more flexible than some, although it still feels like the same blended material used throughout current on-field caps, thanks.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 4 lety +1

      I usually stay with my normal size in wool caps, because wool can also respond pretty well to stretching if you use a hat jack. If you go one size up and it's too big, you can also do something like this - czcams.com/video/yG9rcE7UuVI/video.html Thanks for the question.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 3 lety

      I'd say it is a very faithful re-issue, right down to the flat stitching of the logo - it's not lofted as with todays caps. Unfortunately this collection disappeared with two events - closure of the last US plant that made these, and the acquisition of the Lids online business by Fanatics (the Retro Classic vanished, along with some other collections). Thanks

    Sorry for this question but do you think wool hats come tighter or smaller??

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 4 lety +1

      No, all sizes and materials vary from cap to cap, and I don't think wool is any better or worse than poly in that regard. The one thing wool does is shrink more and faster than poly when exposed to heat and moisture, thanks.

    Where can I get the old polyester on field caps without the New Era flag logo?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 6 lety +3

      Your best bet is to find some still on the shelves at Lids or other stores. If you're looking for teams outside your local area, you may have a decent chance. All on-field caps are still the AC Performance Polyester (since 2007), but the NE Flag was added to them starting in the 2016 Postseason. I think you might still be able to get a few styles through Lids' online site too, because they sometimes have two 'Authentic' fitteds for a team listed under different numbers/photos - but I have not tried ordering one of these, so there's no guarantee. Good Luck!

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  Před 6 lety

      Unless they see a lot of heat when they are wet, wool caps won't shrink too much. The way I stretch and shape my caps, sometimes I have to refresh them every now and then, but wool is easier to work with than polyester. I'd go for your normal size in Wool, but consider buying a Hat Jack (see czcams.com/video/8N-EL-rmgIc/video.html), so that you can stretch them every few weeks or months, to keep a good fit. Good luck!

    I just recently bought a vintage 90s era 59Fifty Orioles hat... The crown is much more pointy and rectangular compared to newer 59Fifty hats... The visor is much softer on the vintage hat than a new one, it seems like it might be a bit tougher to curve the bill into a nice and lasting shape. Strangely the new old stock vintage Orioles hat I bought only cost me $28 shipped, the same hat non vintage would cost $40... I would've guessed the vintage would've cost more.

    I was actually thinking about getting one but, Now I have seen it in detail.......no thanks. I actually like the fact of having the new era flag on the side. It just looks too boxey for me. I'm glad they produce the low profile 59fifty and long may it continue as I have a few of them now.
