I like to imagine Sanguinius trying to calm his bloodythirsty psychopathic sons with arts and crafts like "FATHER I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. THIS IS NOT THE BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES." Sanginius- "No, that is the colour 'red' and this is called fingerpainting"
I always wondered how He did that. I get that marines are chemically unable to disobey orders from their primarch, but if that was the method Sang choose, then the change in the legions character would've been superficial.
@@dapperultron1784 well, theres a piece of text somewhere about a dreadnaught recalling the event of all the heads of the bloodangels meeting goldenboi for the first time, its a great read and really clears up how they would transition, basicly the moment they saw sanguinius they just fell to thekr knees and straight up started bawling and screaming in anguish at how much of a failure they viewed themselves compared to their primarch :)
I really liked that bit of Echoes of Eternity where we get to spend some time with the Revenants before they became Blood Angels. Those fuckers were spooky. ACTUALLY scary space vampires. I think they were cooler than the Blood Angels tbh. Modern Blood Angels are so goody-two-shoes that I can't fucking stand them. Just like the Ultramarines and Space Wolves.
@@dapperultron1784 They can disobey their Primarch. That's the thing, they wanted to change because Sanguinius wasn't like them and what every marine yearns for is to be like their father. So of course that's what they tried really hard to do and succeeded.
@@venerablebrothergoriate5844 the best character people usually have the darkest histories with quite a few skeletons in the closet. That's kinda a fact of life dude.
@@coolbritannia1979 Oh no no, you guys are cooler than the Blood Angels. You guys ACTUALLY struggle with your geneseed defects. And that's coming from an Iron Hand. Your loyalty despite the struggle you endure with no aid from others is absolutley admirable. You're on the doorstep of Khorne worship with how your defects impact you and yet, you're still loyal. Coolest chapter born of Blood Angels geneseed, and the only successor of the big 3 that I like.
not even a fan of sanguinius but the lion is definitely not one to talk abt being hard to like lol, his whole shtick now that he was revived is forgiveness, understanding and leading those willingly to follow him rather than commanding them to do as he wishes cuz even he realized he was a self absorbed POS who's pride led to not only his downfall but of his legion and world
I think Sanguinius is the most relatable primarch. As beautiful and perfect as he seems he's riven with insecurity over his wings and what they may represent, his fear that he'll be deemed a failure like the 2nd and 11th primarchs, his shame at passing on his flaws and struggles to his sons... What makes him heroic is the way he struggles to overcome his doubts, the way he forces himself to be the symbol others need him to be in spite of those conflicts.
@@codyvandal2860 I don't think Sanguinius knew enough about the Chaos Gods to distinguish them by name at the time of his death, but he definitely feared the wings were the result of random mutation, not the Emperor's intentions, he reflects on this directly a few times in sequences written from his perspective, during the Siege and before.
So... literally building the last member of a Sanguinary Guard while listening to this. The biggest thing you missed with the Blood Angels, and I think the reason why they resonate so well with a lot of us (at least me), is their belief that no matter how horrid, awful, disgusting, degenerate, corrupted, and other apt descriptors of the 40k universe... everything can be made better. No matter how much of a horrible shitbag you are, you can literally ascend to the highest reaches of what mankind can achieve, BECAUSE THEY DID!! They were on the chopping block, with the sword of Damoclese about to fall when Sanguinius was found. Literally Khorne's favored legion for corruption, and they were able to rise above it. That's why "the flaw" in both its forms is so tragic. No matter what they do, no matter how much they wish to transcend this horrific form their genetics have forced them to be, they are doomed to fall to it regardless. But they still resist it regardless, because that's not what they want to be. I think that's something that a lot of people can relate to. This idea that while I've made mistakes, and no matter what I do I'm probably going to fail in the end, I still have to try.
100% it gives hope in such a tragic state and that is beautiful. I of course love the salamanders for the hope of saving the imperium means saving the people but these blood angels are so stricken with there gene flaws but they rise above it. Sanguinius knew that he would die after fighting the whole Horus heresy solo fighting a reaver titan, a fucking imperial titan at the sieg of terra, gives the best speech in lore at the eternal gate, then fights both Ka’Bundha and roid rage Angron, and accepts defeat by the hands of Horus allowing the Emperor to use chink of armor Sanguinius made with his death. His sons will be able to rise above all this not because they are angels but they are human.
tbh I do think it was a pretty big missed opportunity for the Blood Angels to call their big relic cup the "Red Grail" When they could've just called it the "Haemogoblet"
Personally I like the Blood Angels because to me it says a certain concept that I like. Holding onto a shred of humanity for dear life when all that's left is to rage and go out in a blaze of furious glory.
Iron Hands are the other way around. Trying to cast off their humanity and everything limiting about it, while the remnants of their humanity come back to haunt them.
Also don't forget, Sanguinius might have gotten rekt by Horus, but Ferrus Manus got outright decapitated by Fulgrim on Istvaan. He was the first Primarch to die and everyone saw it happen.
Yeah, Ferrus was the first one to give his life for the Emperor’s dream, on a battlefield far from home. But no, let’s all keep crying about Sanguinius.
He really lost his head. I shouldn't have written that, Ferrus always had a solid body of work and a good head on his shoulders. That is until He received the Viking crew cut, of course. Where Fulgrim and his boys were going, Ferrus wasn't fated to beheading that way.
Honestly yeah they are vampires pretty much but I feel like people read way too much into that. I just remember I was reading the Dante book and it was talking about a bunch of blood angels firing at some tyranids charging them and they were all resisting the urge to just charge at them at rip them apart, and when they finally did it was fucking awesome. I like the slight vampire vibe but honestly I love blood angels because they are all basically doom guy.
Just out of curiosity I looked to see how often blood or wolf came up for their respective factions. On their respective GW shop pages I counted 3 unique Blood Angels items with names containing the word "blood" or a synonym for blood. On the Space Wolves page I counted 8 unique items with names containing the word "wolf" or synonyms thereof. On the 40k Lexicanum, I looked at the names of each chapter's entries under Armoury, Characters, Vessels, and Formations. Same as the GW shop pages, I looked for instances of "wolf" or synonyms on the Space Wolves lists, and instances of "blood" or synonyms on the Blood Angels lists: Armoury: BA 16 SW 38 Characters: BA 3 SW 9 Vessels: BA 8 SW 0 Formations: BA 1 SW 5 Lexicanum Totals: BA 28 SW 52 This test admittedly could be a little more thorough, and I purposefully didn't count words like 'red' or 'crimson' for the BA, or 'howl', 'pelt', 'fang', or 'claw' for the SW. Even so it isn't even close. The BA do noticeably get flanderised, as with a lot of 40k factions, but it isn't anywhere near to the same extent as the SW are.
Wow, this is actually genuinely interesting to know? In terms of models yeah it does make sense that they do have so few titles, and I know there are still some things that don't really have models that have the whole "Sanguinary" naming convention Regardless, I think that's very cool that you made the list
They were my first army and since them have found their curses brilliant for character building. What interests me the most is how they operate as a society, where their culture exists to hold back their lust but whats more interesting is the surveillance within their own organisation. People talk about how space wolves are close nit, but not enough is talked about the blood angels bonded brother hood for paranoia of loosing themselves or their brothers. Was really shown very well in angels of death where they can get lonely and melancholic outside the chapter for not finding enough people to relate to like ultramarines or fists. This nature has affected the cultures of their successors, this can be seen in their organisation, aesthetics and society. This is actually quite a unique identity as most successors of 1st founding chapters variate in their own way. Flesh Tearers are the furthest away from angelic vampires and more like Peter Jackson's Uruk Hai. Maybe what the blood angels need is more stuff on their successor, alot of them don't even have a paragraph of lore. Perhaps one chapter could be yes vampiric but with a knightly aesthetic or angelic aesthetic with a Celtic culture.
The blood angels are my favorite legion and chapter. The whole balance of nobility and savagery that they have, and that you can actually see unlike the wolves, the aesthetic, the tactics their primarch and characters are cool. Their successors are cool as hell.
I will grant that the Flesh Tearers are cool. But the rest??? They're all just red Ultramarines to me. Nothing actually interesting about them, just the same old sad prettyboy vampire schtick that the rest of the Blood Angels successors fall back on, and the same old "STALWART HEROES OF HUMANITY" type of comic book morality. But the Flesh Tearers.... HOLY SHIT ARE THEY COOL. They ditch the sadboi shit and go balls-deep into the PSYCHO CANNIBAL, and man do I fucking ADORE them for it. Constantly on the edge of falling to Khorne, but still kicking ass in the name of the Emperor, ACTUALLY struggling with their defects because barely a moment goes by when they don't think of snacking on one of their serfs or something, but then absolutely CUTTING LOOSE on the battlefield. Nassir Amit is my absolute favorite out of the big 3, those being Blood Angels, Ultramarines and Space Wolves. Y'know, the chapters that take all the screentime from all the other ones. Flesh Tearers are like World Eaters but loyalist and I love them for it.
@@venerablebrothergoriate5844 I feel that the Flesh tearers aren't that bad of an offshoot, but I like the mourning feel the Lamenters give which fits the whole tragic Catholic theme SO MUCH BETTER than the actual main chapter, makes for far more better pyrrhic and savage stands, where maybe this deployment of a small set of Space Marines might succeed at great cost.... Or genuinely fail since their bad luck offshoots the nasty space marine bs tacticool shit.
@@Dodsodalo I mean, yes. The Lamenters are alright. i am probably one of the few that actually likes their paintjob as well. But I'm an Iron Hands fan. Iron Hands know that Astartes are living weapons and nothing more. They're not philosophants, bodyguards, nursemaids to civilians or STALWART HEROES OF MANKIND. Iron Hands aren't on the comic book morality shit that the Blood Angels, Ultramarines and Space Wolves are. They are the axe the Imperium wields to strike the head from the shoulders of the alien and the traitor. An axe does not ask itself to who's neck it falls. A weapon does not question why it must perform its duty. It merely performs its duty. That is why I can't stand the Noblebright big 3 astartes chapters, the SW, BA, and UM. They're all so obsessed with heroism that it has become utterly monotonous and eye-wateringly boring. It feels like that shit distracts from what a Space Marine really is, that being a genetically altered KILLING MACHINE.
Darkness in the Blood was a pretty good sequel to Devastation of Baal. The dynamics between primaris and the miniscule amount of first born astartes and addressing the genetic flaws of their new recruits.
BA fanboy here. Awesome video. I guess i really dig stories where the characters have this seething rage just underneatg the surface of themselves, but have enough sensibility to understand that lashing out gets you nowhere. Plus, it makes for great fan service whenever they actually are allowed to cut loose. If im being completely honest though, most stories are really just "the rage...must keep it in check...or the chapter is doomed blah blah blah"
Thats why I like the Flesh Tearers and not the Blood Angels. Flesh Tearers struggle with their defects so much that they had no choice but to WEAPONIZE it. AND BOY HOWDY DID THEY FUCKING WEAPONIZE IT XD
@@venerablebrothergoriate5844 you comment under any comment how you love FT and dont like BA. poor soul which is forgottne by gw. Now take your threat and STFU DOG. Pray for the live of Lord-commander that allowed you to stay alive, dirty revenant. Shame of the chapter. And for Noble will of Seth which is better than you. Go in your concer and howl.
I'd have to disagree with this one. I was hoping you'd give more than just "Their names are funny and they're bland just because." Their noble warrior exterior, and the bloodlusting savage inside dichotomy is interesting, made even more so by the fact some chapters lean to either side of the scale. The fact that they were full on murder dogs before Sanguinius turned the entire legion around is interesting. The Black Rage is just a dope concept in itself and have you seen their armour? I mean hell, they sleep in coffins and get withdrawal symptoms when they haven't drank blood in a while, like which other legion has drug addict marines? Not a blood Angels fan, but they're pretty cool imo.
Flesh Tearers are the only cool ones, tbh. During the crusade they were basically Sangiunius's problem children, but they still loved him and kicked ass for him. AND NOW?! THEY'RE PSYCHO CANNIBALS IN POWER ARMOR!!!! They're on the doorstep to Khorne worship with the way they have to struggle with the defects they inherited from their parent chapter, and yet, they remain so loyal that, if an Inquisitor was sent to investigate them, they'd probably EAT the Inquisitor for doubting them!!! Flesh Tearers are fucking AWESOME.
I just don’t think it’s very well executed. Instead of having a tragic dichotomy they come off in their books as a teenage drama’s female protagonist’s edgy love interest
@@11jerans yeah. That’s about right. They also kinda read like some emo kid’s OC. A character who has a beautiful face, gleaming blond hair, wields a beautifully crafted sword, wears armor etched and gilded with gold and rubies, he’s super fast, super strong, but when the going gets tough he goes crazy and needs to drink blood. Remove that from the context of Warhammer and he sounds like a fucking OC for some sort of cringe-ass 14 year old’s RP server.
So fun fact my favorite legions are both the blood angels and night lords. I love the nobility of the blood angels while they also try to tackle their flaws and are always trying to be better
and effortlessly just being better. The Flesh Tearers are really the only ones that seem to actually struggle with their flaws, constantly white-knuckle gripped on the edge of the downward spiral to Khorne worship. I like the Flesh Tearers a lot, and if you ask me, the fact that they're still holding on despite the fact that their struggle is far greater than that of the Blood Angels, puts their parent chapter to shame.
Okay. think of it this way: They're literally hyperfixating on arts and crafts so that they don't forget the teachings of their gene father because two things will happen. They regress back to what they were before they met Sanguinius and become the revenant legion which in consequence would become even more effective versions of world eaters.
As someone who has just jumped into 40k, the blood angels are one of the first chapters that caught my eye, I understand where you're coming from but honestly I think they're interesting
What makes the Blood Angels my favorite loyalist chapter is primarily their thematic dichotomy. They strive to be protectors of humanity and bring aid to mankind. But, they are cursed with the Red Thirst and the Black Rage which forces them to commit atrocities. What makes them fascinating is seeing how they fight their nature with nurture. Knowing that they will fall to one curse or another, that truth, for them, is what motivates them to be better while they are still in control. They know that they themselves are doomed, but by utilizing their teachings of their Primarch and protecting regular humans, they honor Sanguinius, themselves, and the ideals of humanity itself. But the catch is that their “nurture” is basically a preemptive penance for their “nature”. As each Blood Angel are victims of curses that are the antithesis of what they wish to be. So it’s that thematic dichotomy of tragedy and optimism that makes them fascinating.
Yeah this is the reason i love them too. The rest about them is pretty cool, but the moment you strap som angel shit to their name and style and I’m head over heels.
I'm a proud Blo... Vitae Angel and I love your videos! (I'm also Canadian). When it comes to all of the synonyms for blood in the devastation of Baal and subsequent novels, blame guy Hailey. It often feels like GW locked him in a room with only a pen, paper, and a thesaurus. He uses such unnecessary words at times
It's 3rd edition. I'm at the local GW shop. Waiting for a table to open. My most common opponent was this gentleman in his 50's and he'd bust out his blood angels and I'd have my fluffy ultra marines. Pretty much learned how to play by playing him so often. Every thursday, for almost a year. I thought they were...mid as well, but I grew a huge respect for his play style & his goal was to stack as many death company as possible, pre battle he had to roll for each unit to see if they succumbed to the black rage. I learned so much by playing him and my experience playing was so positive I stuck with the hobby. I was 17 at the time...20 years ago...those were good times.
I had typed out a comment about why I liked the blood angels, and upon rereading it, I realised I was just describing why I like the world eaters (my favourite legion) being hidden behind a veneer of nobility...I really like the khorne marines pretending to be noble I guess
Wait this is also true for Dark Angels and Lion specifically. He acts like a noble but in his heart he never left the cursed forests of Caliban. He is exterminator of the Emperor. Flesh Tearers can't even compare to his savagery. That's the purpose of his existence.
@@wedoalittleeco-trolling9126 No that’s not true. I get what you’re saying but the lion does not fight or campaign like a savage or a berserker. He’s much more cerebral and tactical. Does he eat people and drink their blood? Are dark angels so beserk that they kill their own side? No. Lion and DA are no where near as savage as the flesh tearers and they don’t need to be, they are much stronger and more well rounded
Sounds like you're a Flesh Tearer fan and didn't even know it. Which is cool. With the way the Flesh Tearers are struggling, yet still remaining loyal, they put the Blood Angels to shame. And when they cut loose on the battlefield... OOOOO BOY IS IT SO GLORIOUSLY MESSY!!! Not for them the clean slice of a power sword, Gabriel Seth runs around with a fucking EVISCERATOR. REJECT FINESSE AND ELEGANCE. EMBRACE BRUTALITY.
@@wedoalittleeco-trolling9126 The Lion is no savage. He fights with the cold-burning hate of an Iron Hand. He is calculating and careful, but so skilled that it doesn't come off that way. He's no berzerker. He doesn't need to be. That's why, even as an Iron Hand, I would be more accepting of the idea that the Lion, not Russ's dumb ass, was the real executioner. Because an executioner does not wildly swing his axe at the condemned. He takes their head with one swift clean blow, and an executioner must place that blow with strength, skill, AND care that he does not miss.
I love the Blood Angels. I really do. Down to their lore, tabletop content, etc. I have their chapter insignia as a tattoo because I liked the look of it and I’ve been a long time fan of the chapter and Warhammer (I’m aware people regret tattoos, haven’t gotten there yet). I love the concept of representing the best and worst of humanity through the juxtaposition of the rage and their nobility and other attributes. But one thing that tends to bother me is in fact their tendency to be vanilla, just like the video says. I want them to be more close combat than they already are, with more melee based ideas and less “jam on toast”. And I will say that the Flesh Tearers are a fine example of what I hope for, and yet I do have my own gripes with the chapter, outside of Gabriel Seth. My main point is that despite being my absolute favorite, I think that they could be better, and I dearly do want them to be. I hope for improvements in the future. As an aside, this is a great video!
there are talks that sanguinius soul is in the warp and can actually be brought back. you also didnt talk about the genetic defect of the space wolves, when they go full retard-wolf
I, as an Iron Hands fan, also resonate with Imperial Fists fans on account of our factions being used as punching bags to prop up the bad guys, then being discarded. Both the Iron Hands and the Imperial Fists need lore of them actually kicking ass. Same for the White Scars and the Raven Guard.
@@venerablebrothergoriate5844 yooo fellow Iron Hands fan in the wild! We are truly few and far between. It really is a shame they don't get the love they deserve, because their themes and existing lore are dope as fuck. really would love to see more lore from my top three favourite loyalist legions; Iron Hands, White Scars, and Imperial Fists.
@@robin6469 I am a DIEHARD fan of the Iron Hands. My first book with them was the Damnation of Pythos and holy fucking shit was that book so fucking cool. Captain Durun Atticus was such a complete and total badass. Like, he tanked a charnabal saber, one of the best power swords you could get, STRAIGHT TO HIS IRON RIBS without even FLINCHING, and the 3rd legion captain that swung it had just enought time to shit himself when he saw there was no blood on his blade, only a tiny trickle of oil, before Atticus SPLIT HIS SKULL WITH HIS GIGANTIC CHAINAXE. Always so satisfying when some smug traitor thinks he's gonna get a long, drawn out, elegant and skillful duel to show how much better he is than his opponent, then the Iron Hand comes around, fucking BURGERS every hit and crushes the duelist with ease and a cold, casual disdain. No skill. Just overwhelming strength. Like the enemy was nothing more than oil to be wiped from his weapon. Iron Hands are so damn cool
I know I’m late to the party here but I literally just stumbled across your channel tonight and started binging. As for blood angels reading materials I’m sure it was already mentioned a bunch but their omnibus with the story of rafen and his brother arkio was really enjoyable to me. It was the first book material I’ve read of 40k since the chapter was my first army and still main but nostalgia aside it remains a really good read.
Black rage started in the signus campaign. When a greater daemon of khorne killed 300 legionnaires in one strike after breaking the primarch’s legs. Also, they don’t just see themselves as the primarch. They also can think themselves a legionary, fighting off traitors during the siege of terra.
I agree with you that i prefer their successor chapters over the progenitor ( I love my sad boy Lamenters too much), and I do think their characters are pretty awesome.
Lamenters aren’t my favorites, but I like that they actually have to deal with real consequences for their legion and they still remain loyal, instead of just being perfect and flawless like the Blood Angels. Lamenters actually have to sacrifice. Like my Iron Hands. Now, the Flesh Tearers, THOSE are my favorite Blood Angels successors. They don’t sit around moping about how afflicted they are, nor do they just flawlessly shrug off the red thirst or the black rage like the Blood Angels do so often. The Flesh Tearers actually struggle with their defects, but they don’t sit there and whine about how sad it is that they have to deal with it. They just nut up and deal with it. So much so that they fuckin WEAPONIZE it. The Flesh Tearers took a shitty situation and turned it, if not in their favor, then mankind’s favor, against their enemies.
Iron Hands, brother. Why? Two words. GORGON TERMINATORS. Imagine cyborg astartes FUSED with their terminator armor with energy fields that FLASHBANG everyone that shoots at them.
@@venerablebrothergoriate5844 Id imagine they would more often than not look like a slowly, baaarely mobile/ most absurdly uncomfortable rave party/disco ball the galaxy has ever seen. -Gorgon1 "BROTHERS WHERE ARE WE" -Gorgan2 "MY EYES" -Gorgon3 "whhaAT"
@@three.6 not so. I mean, flashbanging space marines was never that effective to begin with, and it was designed during the great crusade by Ferrus Manus himself, so it was likely intended for use against alien/unaugmented human targets, but remember, Gorgon terminator armor requires a cybernetic fusion of the wearer and their armor, meaning once it's on, they DON'T take it off. So having to live out the rest of their lives in their terminator armor, whcih is essentialy now a part of them thanks to DRASTIC cybernetic reconstruction of their bodies, you can bet your ass that they can move with markedly greater speed and agility than other chapters that use terminator armor, or even other Iron Hands that use other patterns than the Gorgon. Now don't get me wrong, they're not gonna break the laws of physics like GABRIEL FUCKING ANGELOS LOL, but spending that much time in your armor, you get used to it, and you get better at moving in it over time. It's like using a prosthetic, whcih I can relate to. I have had a prosthetic leg since I was 5, a decent chunk of why I gravitate to the Iron Hands so much. Every year, when I was still growing, I had to get a new one. And each one took some getting used to. But, after that first couple of weeks with it, I'd be moving around in it so naturally that if I wore pants instead of shorts, no one would notice the difference.
I suggest you check out the charnel guard. they're a blood angels successor chapter that leans into the more classic vampire thing by sleeping in statis crypts when not fighting and only waking up to fight. they also have a large number of heresy era wargear like felblades, at least one storm eagle and fire raptor gunships among other things. Highly reclusive fleet based chapter that seems to get involved in some of the imperiums darker and unknown conflicts.
I have a myriad of reason why I love the Blood Angels but I will make crucial point as to why I love the Blood Angels. Just a Side tangent I also do love a good portion of all the other Legions, My favorites for: loyalist 1. Blood Angels, My vampire Angel boys :3 2. Space Wolves, My Werewolf Viking boys 3. Imperial Fists, Turtle Boxing Turret abusing brick boys 4. Salamanders, I love my flamethrowers also they are nice to the people. 5. Raven Guard, I love Stealth Traitor 1. Thousand Sons, I love Wizards 2. Night Lords, I love Stealth, Also batman 3. Alpha Legion, I love Espionage and tricky and did I mention I love stealth? 4. Word Bearers, I love Sorcerers. 5. World Eaters, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!!!! RAAAAAAGGGGGGGGEEEEEEE!!!! Side tangent over! So back to the main reason why I have Blood Angels on top is because they have this defect where they HAVE to control their Rage and Anger otherwise they fall in to the Red Thirst or worst the Black Rage. As someone who has Rage building up inside them everyday because of outside forces, Politics, Life, etc. I look up the the Blood Angels as a shining beacon of hope. If they can control their rage to not go on a killing spree, Why cant I do the same? Also they use the Arts to project their feelings and I do the same with my music.
Not gonna lie, every Legion is cool in their own way, but some are clearly more relevant in 40k storylines than others. It's a bit better in 30k, where most Legions are still going strong and all Primarchs are around most of the time... And then there's Ferrus Manus who got killed pretty early in the Heresy while his Legion was among those that got strongly hit during the dropsite massacre. Yikes. In 40k the Iron Hands still seem more relevant than the Night Lords, who barely try to survive these days...
Three words. Jump pack Dreads. I love Dreadnoughts. It started in Dawn of War. It was love at first sight when my fitst boxy boy waddled out of his manufactorum and informed me that he still served.
I will say that of all the loyal marine books I read, the blood angels are my favorite. Mostly it was a split between Black Templars and Blood angels, and then I happened to read the book Dante. And it was the thing that won be over to the blood boys.
I mean we have the warp entity that looks like sanguinious talks like sanguinious acts like sanguinious is recognized by the blood angels as sanguinious and is tied directly to the black rage and to the sanguinor. So he’s weirdly now a lot closer to coming back.if it looks like a duck quacks like a duck acts like a duck is recognized as a duck by that ducks kids and has a spiritual connection to the souls of all ducks. Then it must be a duck. And the guy is interacting with his kids so much thst they are doubting if he’s actually dead. I love that they are the legion of so depressed and hungry that they are violent.
Angel boy could come back there 3 blood angels that embody every major part of Sangys soul. If they could fusion dance or 3 way sacrifice could work. (Or the 2 half of his soul battling to this day in the darkness of the wap)
My brother in the Emperor. The blood angels are literally the coolest. The duality between their nobility and their red thirst and black rage is really cool. There was this moment in Arks of Omen the Lion which was pretty cool for this. I think it was Dante looked at the Lion and couldn't help but be a little bit sad knowing his father won't ever come back. And that is what is so cool for them, how they're desperately trying to keep their traditions and their nobility even though their hard-wired flaws, sort of like angels desperately trying to keep above the waters of hell. I agreed with your take on the Imperial fists because yes they are pretty boring, like butter on toast. But this take is heck no, bro. If you don't like them I get it. I don't particularly like the Space Wolves but the Blood angels are just not mid
The thing that saves the Blood Angels for me is their love for art and their various hobbies stemming from that. It’s a good mix of depressing with the Black Rage taking over brothers, but then the remaining brothers being able to admire the subliminal nature of that fate. Plus I like their models 🤷🏾♂️
yes, but like follow me on this there was several scenes in the books with his headless ghost showing up, and his legion is still to this day like "nah, he'll be back," meanwhile the Night lords are like "oh no he is so fucking dead"
I remember maybe before 3rd edition came out, maybe even before 4th, the Blood Angels were as, if not more popular than the ultramarines. Like GW had a lot of character miniatures of them. Wished they’d stayed with direction.
Honestly, I agree with your take on the Blood Angels. I know a lot of people who love them, but I just find them a little boring and overblown, same with the Dark Angels--but I know I don't have the right to call other legions boring since my favourite legion is the Iron Hands lol (the Iron Hands aren't boring at all imo, but everyone else seems to think that they are). Speaking of the Iron Tenth, I'm looking forward to your next legions video 😏
I fond the Blacl Rage to be my favorite brand of insane berserk power-ups in the setting. Khorne makes ya eat glue, nuff said. The ways in which the internal culture of the BA deals with its affliction really highlights Grim Dark done right. They are damned and they know it. So the lengths they go to deal with it, The Angel brand Christianity where Saungy is a Martyr and making the Black Rage is an act of faith to all the creative ways they take an inherently destructive thing and make it less destructive is good writing.
The tragedy in their lore is one of my favorite things about the BA, paired with their attitude of "Everything sucks, but we'll help make it not suck so bad for a s long as we can."
The Blood Angels gimmick of having a Blood This, Blood That and Blood Other is incredibly jarring and immature. But beyond that, their lore and models are top notch. Post Sanguinus's death they are what World Eaters could have been with a sane Primarch, kind of.
I’d say it’s more about daddy issues it’s just theere dads name is sanguinious so naming things after him will include the root word for blood. The sanguinary guard were sanguinious guards sanguinary priests well they are named after daddy as well.
I mean a lot if there naming practices are based less on blood and being vampires and more on the sentiment of “we miss our dad let’s name things in reference to him “ the sanguinary guard for example are the guards of sanguinious. I see a lot of people on discussion post confusing the red thirst berserker rage and the black rage berserk state or simply not knowing it's 2 different things.
Blood Angels are my main and honestly a lot kind of rides on how much you absolutely love the vampire or angel theme. I kind of hate how safe they are with this faction in lore, always trying to paint them as the perfect boring angelic tragic heros. I love it when 40k takes a concept and when it goes 0-100 with and makes it as ridiculous as possible. This is why I love the more ridiculous bloodthirsty vampire espect, and I love the knights of blood the most and flesh tears as well. I hate the generic Blood Angels but I did make my own successor chapter for them, and it is more similar to flesh tears but with its own unique spin. I am actually strongly considering making a Black Templars army because the more I look into the more, I realize they take ridiculous concept and go far beyond 100 and do not hold back.
Just before you said "and that's who the blood angels are" I was being shown an ad for an injury law firm in the Chicago area by CZcams. And now forever in my heart and mind that is who the blood angels are.
As an emperors children fan, i dislike the blood angels for the same reason i dislike the fists, and the white scars. I dont really dislike them, i like alot about them, but every time they are mentioned its about how noble they are how perfect their primarch is, etc etc. Theres always this super serious almost reverence. With the Ultramarines for example that doesnt happen since they where overpowered for so long, now everybody memes on them a bit, wich doesnt mean they dont like them, but everyone, writers included, make sure to emphatise that they are not the be all end all. Imagine how i feel when any time a white scar or blood angel practices poetry people go ''ah yes, truly something more than a warrior, very noble and wise'' but when an emperors children does it the reaction is ''woah what a bunch of gay pussies, they only care about vane things'' im just butthurt no one takes the loyalist emperors children seriously, specially the fucking writters. Also if i see one more person say that the Khan is underrated im going on a killing spree, hes cool, but hes not underrated, everyone loves him, theres not a moment in the lore where hes humbled or shown to have flaws, theres no one who dislikes him, hes NOT underrated
I’m mixed, I overall love Vampire aesthetics, the red and gold is cool, and I’m all for the Red Thirst and Black Rage. But two things really sour the legion for me, Mephiston and Siege of Terra Sanguinius. Mephiston basically made the concept of the Black Rage into a power up transformation with no draw backs, and with him being basically the only one able to do this it’s a clash against lore in order to hype up a character. Oh and he has a fragment of Sanguinius’ soul, giving him another powerup to make him even stronger than he already was. He also saw into the Tyranid Hivemind… with no negative drawbacks, you get my point. Sanguinius I enjoy very well until the Siege of Terra really kicks off, where he fights two Greater Daemons, a Titan, basically the entire World Eater’s legion and Angron back to back and the dude is still up and fighting. He’s taken a few injuries, but it’s ridiculous that he can face all of these things and not be pointed out for being blatantly too overpowered. And don’t even get me started on the stupid theory that Sanguinius is going to kill Horus by succumbing to the Black Rage. I don’t let two characters ruin my thoughts on a legion, but it’s always in the back of my head so while I enjoy the Blood Angels to a decent amount, they don’t grab me quite as much as other legions, or even as much as the other basic legions like the Space Wolves or Imperial Fists.
Dude was beating every daemons and prince in siege of terra until was fucked by Horus like Jesus Christ sanguinius so powerful and died at the end, someone dude told and mentioned me about mephiston that he solos the entire hive fleet and I was like "huh?????" You know the Tyranids aren't even a bug but a freaking horrifying alien. Imo I love the blood angels but I hated them cause of the black rage but I hate the grey knights more if you know why in lore wise.
I like to imagine Sanguinius trying to calm his bloodythirsty psychopathic sons with arts and crafts like
"FATHER I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. THIS IS NOT THE BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES."
Sanginius- "No, that is the colour 'red' and this is called fingerpainting"

"Sanguinius is so overbearingly perfect that he wraps back around to being impossible to like."
-Lion 'El Johnson
At least the Lion is just straight impossible to like. A good honest asshole.
common lionel w
Lion likes no one. That's not saying much.
not even a fan of sanguinius but the lion is definitely not one to talk abt being hard to like lol, his whole shtick now that he was revived is forgiveness, understanding and leading those willingly to follow him rather than commanding them to do as he wishes cuz even he realized he was a self absorbed POS who's pride led to not only his downfall but of his legion and world
I think Sanguinius is the most relatable primarch.
Did he think his wings might have something to do with Tzeentch?
Perfect.
One must imagine Sanguinius happy.

Still mid-low tier at best

Yeah, Ferrus was the first one to give his life for the Emperor’s dream, on a battlefield far from home. But no, let’s all keep crying about Sanguinius.
He really lost his head. I shouldn't have written that, Ferrus always had a solid body of work and a good head on his shoulders. That is until He received the Viking crew cut, of course. Where Fulgrim and his boys were going, Ferrus wasn't fated to beheading that way.

Why, Hello there Horus. What brings you to the bridge of the Vengeful Spirit today? Have you seen the Emperor around here?
Just out of curiosity I looked to see how often blood or wolf came up for their respective factions.
On their respective GW shop pages I counted 3 unique Blood Angels items with names containing the word "blood" or a synonym for blood.
On the Space Wolves page I counted 8 unique items with names containing the word "wolf" or synonyms thereof.
On the 40k Lexicanum, I looked at the names of each chapter's entries under Armoury, Characters, Vessels, and Formations. Same as the GW shop pages, I looked for instances of "wolf" or synonyms on the Space Wolves lists, and instances of "blood" or synonyms on the Blood Angels lists:
Armoury:
BA 16
SW 38
Characters:
BA 3
SW 9
Vessels:
BA 8
SW 0
Formations:
BA 1
SW 5
Lexicanum Totals:
BA 28
SW 52
This test admittedly could be a little more thorough, and I purposefully didn't count words like 'red' or 'crimson' for the BA, or 'howl', 'pelt', 'fang', or 'claw' for the SW.
Even so it isn't even close.
The BA do noticeably get flanderised, as with a lot of 40k factions, but it isn't anywhere near to the same extent as the SW are.
Wow, this is actually genuinely interesting to know?
In terms of models yeah it does make sense that they do have so few titles, and I know there are still some things that don't really have models that have the whole "Sanguinary" naming convention
Regardless, I think that's very cool that you made the list

As a blood angels player, I am currently starting to experience the black rage and the red thirst at the same time after watching this video.

Whenever I want to feel angry, not in rage but genuinely upset, I watch this video.
I like them because angel aesthetic is nice
Yeah this is the reason i love them too. The rest about them is pretty cool, but the moment you strap som angel shit to their name and style and I’m head over heels.

I thought they were...mid as well, but I grew a huge respect for his play style & his goal was to stack as many death company as possible, pre battle he had to roll for each unit to see if they succumbed to the black rage. I learned so much by playing him and my experience playing was so positive I stuck with the hobby.

Oh...sweet, glorious Lamenters. I too love those unlucky bastards.
If the Sanguinor is Sanguinius then we need to let him know that "daddy misses him very much".
Painting my armor black as I wonder why Horus made this video.
This video made Dante even sadder. Not even a mention for all he has done 🥺
One of the most provocative thumbnails I ever read in my entire life...
Naming the Blood Angels mid? As expected of a Night Lord simp.
This is quite a nice video, Horus!
Love the Blood Angels, such a personal connection with them. Controlling rage through painting
I’m still shopping around for Space Marine chapter to collect and play. These vids are very helpful
I'd say just go with what looks coolest, it's what I do for miniatures.
Unless your playing Horus Heresy then go with any legion that is not thousand sons or *IS* dorn's imperial bananas and you should be fine
-Gorgon1 "BROTHERS WHERE ARE WE"
-Gorgan2 "MY EYES"
-Gorgon3 "whhaAT"
Not to nitpick, but when you spoke about Lemartes, you actually showed pictures of Daenor, another death company chaplain. Nice video though
I’m telling Dante about this video it’ll probably make him want to die even more being called mid
Just a Side tangent I also do love a good portion of all the other Legions,
My favorites for: loyalist
1. Blood Angels, My vampire Angel boys :3
2. Space Wolves, My Werewolf Viking boys
3. Imperial Fists, Turtle Boxing Turret abusing brick boys
4. Salamanders, I love my flamethrowers also they are nice to the people.
5. Raven Guard, I love Stealth
Traitor
1. Thousand Sons, I love Wizards
2. Night Lords, I love Stealth, Also batman
Yikes.
In 40k the Iron Hands still seem more relevant than the Night Lords, who barely try to survive these days...
totally forgot about this title
HORUUUUUUSS, BETRAYEEEEEEEEEER. THIS IS YOUR LAST DAY OF TRECHERY
Man’s has never been so wrong about best Legion.
Three words. Jump pack Dreads.
I love Dreadnoughts. It started in Dawn of War. It was love at first sight when my fitst boxy boy waddled out of his manufactorum and informed me that he still served.
I smell heresy !
Flesh Tearer's go BRRRRTTTTTTT.
Love your videos, but every time I hear your intro all I can think of is that weird dude who goes "uhhh... my name is charmander."
Blood angels was my intro into 40k to this day when I hear space marine I picture them red
They're gonna be my first army cause my mom thinks they're neat.
Mr Bones trying to awaken the black rage before sanguinius even exists
"Konrad Curze on the other hand is like an 8/10 dead. Head removed. Everyone saw it"
Ferrus Manus:
yes, but like
follow me on this
there was several scenes in the books with his headless ghost showing up, and his legion is still to this day like "nah, he'll be back," meanwhile the Night lords are like "oh no he is so fucking dead"
@@TheBoneZone40k only messing about I get what you mean don’t worry 😂
I have to disagree, how are the vampire, angels that go berserk at the memory of their fallen father boring or mid?
I don’t get why people think they are edgy those same people will say that and turn around and say night lords are so based.
I'm curious how you'll handle the sons of ferrus manus I really like those perfectionists
So far, in my research, my opinion is hovering around "outwardly interesting, but they definitely deserve better lore than what they have"
They were my favorite loyalists, but I'm warming to The Lion.
HOOOOOORUUUUUUS!!!!!!?!?!
I mean a lot if there naming practices are based less on blood and being vampires and more on the sentiment of “we miss our dad let’s name things in reference to him “ the sanguinary guard for example are the guards of sanguinious. Sanguinary priests were priests of sanguinous. The wings of sanguinious well that one literally has his name in it .
I never cared for the HAWKBOY. I think the LION can clip him. Now don't yell HERASY! I'll make you REPENT!
You might want to rethink your "are they dead" scale after reading the lions new book
9.28...Notice how Arthur basically transforms into Vincent Price when talking about 'the viscous crimson spewing from his throat..." Lol! Great video man!
I wouldnlike to point out that Sangi is closer to 5 out of ten on dead scale, because we know where his soul is, one is in Dante other in One of the chapter Master of Flesh terers and last part is wandering on the Vengeful Spirit with Black legion.
3:50 dorn "died" (daddy lives) fighting the 1st black cruciade, whered you get the thing about Alpharius' blade. You know Dorn killed alpharius in the Heracy, that's what the image is depicting
I was about to look at the other videos but since i dont know if it would make him happy i will restrain myself
I see a lot of people on discussion post confusing the red thirst berserker rage and the black rage berserk state or simply not knowing it's 2 different things.
I mean pretty sure Sanguinius is somewhere on the 4-6 scale of dead as he is a ghost that actively helps his legion
Can't wait until you get to my legion, just to come to the surface conclusion everyone does lmao
I like strawberry jam on toast. But I like it better with peanut butter better. Like Flesh Tearers.
Imagine how i feel when any time a white scar or blood angel practices poetry people go ''ah yes, truly something more than a warrior, very noble and wise'' but when an emperors children does it the reaction is ''woah what a bunch of gay pussies, they only care about vane things''
im just butthurt no one takes the loyalist emperors children seriously, specially the fucking writters.
Also if i see one more person say that the Khan is underrated im going on a killing spree, hes cool, but hes not underrated, everyone loves him, theres not a moment in the lore where hes humbled or shown to have flaws, theres no one who dislikes him, hes NOT underrated
"INTERESTING VIDEO TITLE, HORUS"
Why are the blood ravens in the thumbnail did they steal blood angel's name
That's a lot coming from a guy who looks a lot like Horus within purging distance.
I thought you said the blood ravens were mid I was about to smack the shi
nah, Blood Ravens are pretty cool.
Gabriel Angelos is a beast
I dig the Blood Angels, but even the being into art and what not is just Dracula.
Blood Angels have been my boys since I was 13, but I absolutely see where you're coming from in this video
