This episode was really unsavory.
Most of the Maigret novels were. When you read a biography of Simenon, you begin to understand why. He had a - what shall we call it - somewhat unsavoury side himself.
Yes , a very curious character with a complicated private life . And prodigious output . He actually COULD write well and did - early
in his career ! When he discovered he could knock a Maigret in a week he opted for quantity rather
than quality. And earned bags of
cash....Can't say I blame him...?
