I've gone through many umbrellas over the years. So much so that I think of umbrellas as a consumable. This project attempts to put to rest the consumable label I've given umbrellas. Today, I'm going to build what I would consider the indestructible umbrella, or Da Uber-brella.
PARTS LIST:
● 2ft - 1" PVC pipe
● 1x - 1" PVC coupler
● 2x - 1" PVC cap
● 1x - 1-1/4" PVC coupler (expansion piece)
● 3x - 10' length of CPVC (from these 10' lengths, cut the following pieces)
- 8x - 1/2" x 22" CPVC
- 8x - 1/2" x 10" CPVC
● 16x - 1/2" CPVC caps
● 2x - 2' length wooden dowel - largest diameter that can slide into CPVC
● Box of 100 #208 eyelet screws (to be used as the hinge system)
● 8x - 1/4" dia. x 1/2" long hex-head bolt
● 4ft x 4ft sheet of tarp
● 3' - 1/2" rope (doesn't need to be exactly 1/2")

Out of all the umbrella DIYs, this was the one detailed and understandable. Thank you.
I'm so glad!
And I'm watching today, 3 years later and so happy!! Thank you! @@XLessThanZ
I am hating the fact that I have thrown away so many outdoor umbrellas, because of a broken arm. I could have saved so much money. Thanks for a very thoroughly explained video. Please do an update.
People have mentioned that and I think I'll look into a new idea...Thanks🤙🏽
You did a great job. Thank you for posting.
True genius
This is the amazing diy umbrella i found. Great video bro! Thanks
No follow up? GREAT VID!!!
Thanks, great project.
Don’t need a 1” coupler & removal of the inside stop, just use a 1-1/4 pvc.
It's a nice idea, and surprising to find very few YT vids about this subject. Some other ideas would be like a 'frankenbrella' using parts from a commercially made patio version, or did you ever see those ones for made for fishing? The ribs/fabric could be shortened and the pole changed, leaving a sturdier hand-sized version.
There are YT vids showing 3D printed DIY metal forming dies; stronger hardware for a normal umbrella could be made like this using steel strips. Perhaps on a standard umbrella the weak parts could be reinforced using resin and ultra-light glass cloth (designed for RC planes), or braided tube, and compression molded in some way. The hinge rivets drilled out and upgraded hmm.
You're going to loose a finger using the tablesaw like that.
On going to make one myself. I broke two today in a wind and rain storm, I was soaked by the time I got to the car.
Thanks for this video. I have an idea now
nice project
i also want to make a strong umbrella thank you
I imagine you could use bamboo or cane in place of the PVC.
Please use a vice to hold your ole instead of your hand when drilling anything.
Pole
Why would you stop just before you finished the umbrella?
Wanted to do something different from the typical canopy, but yep, should've at least finished it.
@@XLessThanZ yours was the best video i found.
@@AUS5113 appreciate it
Bravooo💗👍
👍👍👍
Excuse me, since you didn’t use a push stick on your table saw, I assume you don’t wear any eye protection, either! Thanks 4 the brainstorming, which includes what not to do.
