- Soundtrack for one of Buster Keaton's shorts - The Blacksmith (1922). I can't explain with words why I have chosen this one. I guess I just pointed this film with my finger and started to compose music for it. And I didn't regret about it. The more I watched, the more I laughed.
I hope my music makes a better comic effect, I tried to do so. And I always try.
P.S. Please don't use music without permission and don't violate copyright. I keep eye on it.

Still fresh and enjoyable than any other latest movies.

Beautifully done. Score is perfect fit for an excellent short!
After the100 years,
that's still so funny
You know you made a classic when you can make someone laugh 100 years later. What a legend!
@Bruce Wayne I had no clue! That's awesome!
Have you checked out "The Railrodder", made by the guy that directed 'Heavy Metal'? I just did. Keaton still had it - dude *made* me chuckle as I gazed upon a lovely selection of Canadian rail scenes.
I think many movies are funny, but few of them actually make me laugh - but this one did! “The spreading chestnut tree” LOL!
The shock-absorbing saddle was just the best. :D
I really like how despite being really old his movies are still pretty fun to watch with a modern mindset. The definition of a classic.
Classic enough that people are still copying his bits. Check out the “Every Frame a Painting” video on Keaton.
What difference does a modern mindset make to physical comedy, it's timeless.
I’m the 69th Like. NICE!
@@phreak761 I know, what I mean is, even if your experience with the media is only modern movies you could still have fun watching this one, unlike other old movies that seem to have a cultural barrier between generations.
You should also watch Harold Lloyd!
This was made 100 years ago. And it still holds up better than a considerable amount of media, let alone comedies. And such a nicely done soundtrack! Thank you for sharing this!
I can’t believe that it’s over 100 years old and it’s still some of the best comedy ever!
✌️🤣👍
I just can't believe this so antique humor will bright up my day
That ending is absolute perfection
Buster Keaton.
What a man.
He could do it all.
And did!
Wrote. Directed. Produced. Acted. Comedy. Drama. Stunts.
The Great Stone Face.
The Greatest of All Time.
And a great guy.
RIP, darling Buster, and thanx so very much for the magic and memories. .
Thanx muchly for sharing this little treasure!
And your score is a delight!
Nice music. Perfectly complements Buster's grace, dexterity, athleticism -- and beauty. What a handsome man he was.
An extra terestial creature 💛💛💛
How much real & soul-touching one century old humans' comedy was in developing Hollywood's. It launches us back to miss too much those heart-attracting faces.
Music and movie are good harmony. 👍 I enjoyed watching it. Buster Keaton was a great actor and director. Thanks for uploading it. 영상 감사합니다! 😊🎉🎉🎉
This is one of my favorite silent films of all time! Buster Keaton walked so all the other great physical actors could run !
wunderschöne s/w Fim mit Buster Keaton
könnte man ewig zusschauen !
It was a time when giants walked the earth.
I will thank God for my Grandpa every day of my life, for the rest of my days on this earth.
He showed me many amazing things in all areas of life, including these movies, and all of the jazz and country music from this era. Thanks to him I have a love and appreciation for all of it.
I am eternally grateful to the man for this, and everything else.
100 years on and still as funny as ever.
My Great Grandma Virginia Fox is the love interest in this one and a few other Keaton movies. I hadn’t seen too many of them somehow, but your uploads helped immensely. Thanks so much!
Wow🤩
Old is gold
Long live this comedy LEGEND!!!! 100 years of this incredible display of talent. Wonderful!
Buster Keaton is a silent film legend.
My favourite silent comedian, by a mile.
Just came across this on a Buster binge, great job with the music!
Buster Keaton was just magic. People will find this funny for as long as there people.
That saddle contraption was genius besides funny.
Those four hinge arrangements on it were actual car shock absorbers from back then.
@@lawrencelewis8105 I saw that.
I've seen people ride a Bicycle sitting on the handlebars but never anyone ride a motorcycle like that !!!! Amazing guy!
I was fascinated observing the intersection of modern and pre-modern technology as it was happening then. To them it was just the present time. Horses, steam engines and automobiles all happening during the same period... and the movie camera! Technology has moved so fast. This was the beginning.
100 years ago, this was a smart flick by Mr. Keaton. No need for title cards. It's all in the action and acting. Smart business and stunts all with a cute story. The visual quality is very good in this original B & W print. But, what struck me is the enchanting musical score by Angelin Fonda. This music fits the film like a hand in glove. Bravo. The whole experience was as if "The Blacksmith" was really made... just a little way... before yesterday.
Watching that White Horse and the car get dirty made me cry inside. Honestly though, the people who made these movies are pure geniuses.
Lol, Think about the production cost, wrecking the car must have given the studios a heart attack. 🍷
@@evm6177 Better a silent movie star in the 1900s than a 1 hit wonder in the 21st. He was a mega-star by todays measures. His silent films could be watched and understood by 90% of the planet.
Love these old films, when life with out mobile phones and internet were not priority. And the cinema was the place where a child's imagination and adults could run wild.
Haven't laughed this much at a comedy in 20 years.
After the100 years,
that's still so funny
This is what the internet was meant for. Thank you for taking the time and effort.
The new musical score wonderfully updates Keaton's classic. THANKS!
Thoroughly enjoyed both film and music. When you think that this film is now 100 years old, it's of remarkable comic quality and of course Buster Keaton was one of the 'GREATS' in the early film industry. This film is as funny to watch today as it would have been a century ago. It's fabulous to be able to watch it, with an original music score, in 2021.
Absolute comedy gold. Keaton was a mastermind!
EL MAS GRANDE DE TODAS LAS EPOCAS: BUSTER KEATON. SUS GAGS SON MARAVILLOSOS, SUMAMENTE ESTUDIADOS Y PRACTICADOS HASTA LLEGAR A LA PERFECCION. TAN EXCELENTES QUE IMPRESIONAN COMO QUE FUESEN CASUALES. SUS IDEAS: ORIGINALISIMAS !!!! FUERON TOMADAS POR MUCHOS GRANDES DEL CINE.
The white car, a Pierce Arrow, was a gift to Buster by his in-laws who he didn't get along with, and this was his way of showing what he thought of them.
No, it is actually a myth. Just some old Pierce Arrow. The presented car was a Rolls-Royce, btw
Pure Gold 🏆
Buster Keaton puts today's Hollywood to shame. He's an American legend that will live on through the centuries in film.
Love how he takes the watch out of the forge, gives it a few taps with a tool, quenches it in the fire and it's good to go!
Every scene says so much with no spoken words needed
Thank you for this high quality movie and music
Tökéletes régi egyesültállamokbeli mozi .
Csodálatos forgatókönyvet , köszönjük a megosztásának hez .
A total thumbs up as this will never get old! Keaton rocks!!!
Wonderful. Great soundtrack. What would a Buster Keaton flick be without a train involved!
My dad is old enough that he remembers seeing these silent films in the 1930s.
The film was shot in 1922, exactly 100 years ago (2022)! It's amazing, the content is still amazing!
I thought I’d seen all of Keatons shorts and full movies. This was a fun surprise
Despite not being the "classical" sound one knows from silent film music, this fits the scenes very well.
Actually, most silent films were distributed with sheet music that was played by local orchestras in the larger theaters, and many of the smaller ones. When soundtracks came along on the film, thousands of professional musicians were put out of work. The "tinkling piano" sound associated with silent films was actually based on a spoof made years later, and is no more accurate than the two circles that denote looking through binoculars in movies.
I would've married Buster in a heartbeat lol. Lovely arrangement! ❤️😊
I laughed my ass off when Biff in the White Van shows-up and all the plotlines come together! Total superstar, man.
Ah, so, I read the description and got my answer. I was wondering why it didn't sound all 1920s-ish...and it was wonderful!
the frickin' magnet !!! Brilliant.
10:34 a shock absorber for horses ?I love this score !! a lot of silent films with added music on here arent exactly the greatest. Thank you so much!!!!
Charlie Chaplin got a lot of criticism for adding the voice over narration to
"The Gold Rush" in the 40s, and it was his own film.
Sometimes artistic license is a tricky thing.
Somebody took Fritz Lang's
"Metropolis", colorized it, and added a rock soundtrack. I didn't like it at all.
Anybody who was around in 1980 probably remembers
"Hooked on Classics"
They took snippets of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and others and set it to the disco boom boom beat to use as soundtracks for working out.
I doubt if anybody who loves classical music had anything good to say.
Messing around with somebody else's work is kind of a mine field.
The music on this one is OK
because it fits and it's not intrusive.
Jay Z or Marilyn Manson would not have been a good choice.
Such a well done soundtrack, things like plucked strings when he's cutting the rope really sell it! You captured every mood so well and really enhanced the tension and payoff moments. It's great to hear higher fidelity music fit so intentionally to an old silent film and not be cheesy.
I absolutely adore the music in this, the parts where he’s swinging the sledgehammer and pulling the motor by the rope with the cymbals (I think they’re cymbals) in time of the hits as well the piano notes when his hat jumps up and flips around is great
(forgive me for not using proper musical terminology or such I’m just going on what I hear)
Absolutely brilliant.
This may just be my perception, but it seems like there’s a bit of a Buster Keaton revival going on. Right now, over half a million people have watched (and enjoyed!) a hundred year old movie. That’s pretty cool!
Twenty years later, Disney used the exact same gag with selecting the shoes in the Donald Duck cartoon "The Village Smithy!"
Well, one might argue that it was a classic by that time already and they were paying homage to Keaton. However, it's also possible they were just recycling material from him, which is ironic for current Disney at least.
I remember seeing that same Gag being used in Lucky Luke several times.
Your score is brilliant, superbly enhances Buster's genius. Well done!
I didn't know this Buster Keaton's short film. It's fun. Thank you.
The king above all comedians
One of my favorites 👍🤣 especially when Buster accidentally ruined the man’s Fancy Car 🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆😆😆
Lol, Think about the production cost, wrecking the car must have given the studios a heart attack. 🍷
So funny sir g 🤣 I miss you 🙂💐💐🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Excellent job! Bravo! .......
very impressive. great music. made the video that much more enjoyable. good work. thanks for your hard work and sharing.
Бастер просто гений!
I take great pleasure watching a film my Great Grandfather likely watched..
Amazing score! Feels perfectly for the film. Congratulations
OH BUSTER, I DO LOVE YA.....AND I'M VERY FONDA THE MUSIC TOO......THANK YOU ANGELIN
This was great, I love how you wrote the pizzicato "plink" sections to correspond with the threads of the rope being cut while the blacksmith dangled. Really well done!
Bravo. The music was a perfect accompaniment for this film.
Congratulations for the piece! It fitted like a glove in the short. I´ll surely rewatch it again someday
rooscuro thank you so much!
Great score! Thank you!
I'm 25 yo but I guess age is really getting me when little gags like the horse showing off its shoes make me laugh lol That was enjoyable all around, love the silly practical effects.
100% better than the mind-numbing gash daytime TV churns out
As a horse rider, the horsey scenes had me in stitches 🤣👌
I Wonder how they Can control the horses in such a way.
Sames! 😂🤗💋💕
@@vrajananda The horse was trained btw lol
Love the Music
Next year a 100 birthday of this clip. Incredibly vivid
Absolutely wonderful!
11:30 сто лет прошло, автосервис не изменился.
The music actually rocks!!!
A model Buster Keaton classic wearing a new coat - another beautifully composed soundtrack from Angelin Fonda which enhances the great comedy and visual flair of Keaton. I am 100% convinced that if these magnificent films were shown on mainstream television or launched on Netflix with these new soundtracks they would win a whole new audience for Keaton. Well done on the soundtrack - it gives the film such bounce. The only other composer of this quality for silent films is the great Carl Davis.
You might be right. Modern shows and movies are definately too talky. And this makes them pretty much the same

Хорошее музыкальное сопровождение.
That was a very good film, with a very complementing soundtrack. You especialy nailed it with the musical sound effects.
Like so many other Buster Keaton films, The Blacksmith is truly a timeless classic, which is only confirmed all too well by your superb & well adapted approach.
I can only imagine how many hours and effort went into this project, but I nevertheless hope to see another complete film with your musical accompaniment one day.
Anyway, thank you so much for this fantastic and lovingly composed score!
These kind of movies are so awesome
Good movie and a lovely score.
For future reference: PLAYBACK SPEED x .75 makes all these old silent films more realistic :)
Wow, I loved this! Beautiful work!
Thank you Angelin, I enjoyed the film and with your sound track even more. I've turned off some silent films with modern sound tracks, just too awful to put up with, yours was wonderful, you're very talented!
Classic 🤓🙋♂️👍❤
Very nice music...well done, Angelin!
Noice and tight, Angelin - a sweet, beautifully timed arrangement. Thanks!
Chaplin and Keaton, the most funny 90's kids ever to exist.
That music was very lovingly done, and fit well! Thank you for sharing it.
One of my favorites
I think your composition is brilliant!
Fitting score. Nice job!
This is Gold
And to think that little boy is over 90 years old...
That's a well trained horse, much nicer than the one that kicked me
