It's supposedly the Khtz of Kyiv, and where the gopnik's live, but we'll see how it stacks up and how dangerous of a hood it really is. It's why I watch Bald though. I love the way he travels, taking buses and trains and taxis everywhere like the locals do. I like the fact that he can speak the language and appreciates the history. I like how he talks to old people and get's their opinions on soviet times and Putin. I like that he shows the poverty and what's amazing and beautiful about the country. Honestly if he really is done soon I'm very much going to miss his videos.

Bald is the travel youtuber we all come to see. I see a lot of youtubers travel and they barely know the culture rather they know the clubs and tourist monuments.
Poverty? Which videos of his have you watched? Its the way of life in those countries. Do not compare that with what you have in your own country.

Your videos with Bald kind of feel like behind the scenes of Bald and Bankrupt and I like it. Bald is pretty picky about what he puts on his channel, while your stuff is much more raw and unfiltered. I think it let's both of your personalities shine and I really enjoy it

It's crazy to watch this again 1 year later as so much in Ukraine has changed since then. Just in the first minute and a half you can see it's pre-war as McDonald's is still working, and the exchange rate is 26uah to $1, now it's officially 36:1 and closer to 40 at these street exchanges.
Bald is epic and effortlessly charming. This 66 year old woman has been a huge fan for a long time.

As far as we can see, you two are the only gopniks in that neighborhood.
The reason soviets "loved covering buildings in bathroom tile" is the economy was planned instead of being driven by demand. Factories just produced whatever they were told to produce, usually planned for 5 years ahead, regardless of what was needed. So people found creative use for stuff that was in oversupply instead of waiting for plans to change to what was needed. :)
Let's just be honest about Bald's view on danger. He once had a conversation with soldiers on their way to the front about a cute dog he bought a treat for.
I remember that video, it was near the top of that mountain pass.

Christina Holm - Johnny and Bald are not concerned about becoming Ukrainians as much as they are on making money from youtube on people like you - Johnny is into buying apartments and I believe this is for his retirement only thing is Ukrainian law on ownership rights can change tomorrow especially if he does not have Ukrainian passport - and if he has Ukr passport he can be drafted in to the army to fight the Russians or detained under Ukrainian law

Great video. I was standing in that very spot by the hotel in front of the McDonald’s In March and April. You should do more tours of the neighborhoods in Kyiv and talk to more shop employees. I learned a great deal from this video, Thank you for posting it,

The most dangerous neighborhood in Kyiv is Stara Darnitsa and particularly DVRZ district. Troeshchina was a gopnik area in 90s, but not anymore.
Are all the Kiev neighborhoods fighting for the title of worst shithole? Every video, there's another neighborhood claiming to be the most dangerous.

TBH, Kyiv is a quite safe city these days and the only chance to get in trouble is to go to some night club or a bar in the outskirts of Kyiv (such as Stara Darnitsa area) during the night time. During the daytime all districts are pretty much the same (safe and boring).

Hey Johnny! I work in tourism and there's a good advise:
Don't tip people small money just because you're in a cheap country. Because salaries are small doesn't mean people are cheap. They sense everything and swear on you afterwards. I used to get all the leftover coins and trash paper money and it was heartbreaking. Better not to give any money at all. Also, your sense of numbers is still based on dollars. Add nother zero in mind while calculating everything.
Yeah the 2 of them deserved a few quid so friendly havin a laugh with you what's a good conversation and atmosphere worth like cant put a price on that shit

Better learn Ukrainian. In Belarus, people who know Belarusian will understand Ukrainian. In Poland, people will understand you better if you know Ukrainian. Russian is dying off as it should be. No more Soviet dictatorship. Eastern European countries languages have more similarities with Ukrainian compared to Russian
Learn Russian if you want to travel to Russia. Ukrainian if you want to travel around Ukraine.
