JUNE 9, 2021: The age old 'mermaid story' told by residents who live in the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine resurfaced on Tuesday after another fatal crash.
Daniel Gayle, who has been diving and fishing in the Rio Cobre for the last 10 years, said the river has a season when the mermaid wants blood and that is when a series of accidents usually occur.

Rio is haunted .I was going across the bridge when I was eight months pregnant with my daughter.Suddenly by seatbelt began to choke me ,when I stepped on my brakes the brakes was extremely tough.I felt the car drifting towards the edge of the bridge and I started crying out for Jesus.How got over that bridge only God knows but I could not stop trembling.When I reached the gas station I had to stop for a while and calm down because I was in shock.

When I described the previous owner of my childhood home who had died to my mother she knew for sure I could see things. Saw the figure standing at the foot of my bed plain as day. I’d never met this man in my life, so there’s no way I would have known what he looked like. I was 9 years old. That’s only one of many incidents. To this day my family knows if a say I see or feel something to take it serious.

I was born in Jamaica and raised a broad, I know when I was 5 or something I most likely past that bridge before but once I came back to Jamaica to visit as a adult. An actual seeing this place for the first time and being there it was beautiful but, I felt a extremely intense aura in the air. So intense I was slightly shivering had to ask my uncle what is this place while driving past the bridge to the other side. He told me so many stories about this area that was hard to believe. But that feeling I got being there for the first time tells me something about that place is off
When I was growing up I was also told that slaves were also killed and thrown in the river. Flat bridge is a gate. Twice they have put bridge on the sides to prevent people going over, but when heavy rains river come down and wash them away, so they never bothered to put back any. That part I know for a fact, cause I was born then. I was born the same year March when Jamaica gained independence. But you do hear a lot of stories about flat bridge been haunted.

I went to visit Jamaica as I'm half Jamaican I stayed in rio for a while......and I got a vibe that I found unexplainable about the area I truly believe that Rio is indeed haunted by something.

I remember hearing as a child that River Mumma is the guardian of the fish that live in the river and does not like her fish captured or killed. Perhaps she get angry at humans and wants blood for blood for taking her wards.

@@shellaentertainment4000 We saw about a dozen huge fishes from a bus crossing the bridge... Everyone was shocked. Some people said they were mermaids. They didn't look like mermaids to me. They looked like fishes, but they were bigger than any human and fully white as ghosts.. I never knew those types of monsters lived in the river... They must live at the deep bottom to be so white and only resurfaced because of low oxygen from dynamite or from other gases being released from the riverbed.... Anyway,. I would never ever swim in the Rio Cobre. Too many lives lost in it. Those divers are brave. The size of the fishes alone had me scared.

What is also creepy about the Rio Cobre is that no one knows where the source is. Seriously. Look it up. It's on Wikipedia. In other words, the water flowing in the Rio Cobre is coming from somewhere that no one can find. Usually the source of a river is a lake, but there is no lake feeding the Rio Cobre. Where is the water coming from?
The source of a river is not a lake... all rivers starts on highlands... (mountains, hills). The little springs joins and create rivers as they travel to the flatlands. I Know that the Rio Cobre is complicated but it's only because of its length and the multitude of rivers connected to it...
@@joviedwards1064 Look at the satellite images on Google maps of the Rio Cobre. Find Flat Bridge, zoom right in and go north till you reach Bog Walk. You can see multiple small rivers feeding the Rio Cobre, but if you follow all of them to find their source each either disappears or dries up. Its as if the water from the Rio Cobre is coming from underground. Again, to this day the source is a mystery even with 2021 technology and surveying.

That place needs a good deliverance church service. I am from Guyana and we have certain spooky places too in our country, and many of these areas have opened up church’s and have been keeping worship services and believe it not those evil sitings have disappeared. Spirits don’t like to hear the word of God.I remember growing up hearing people living in certain remote bush and river areas talk about mermaids and water demons appeared to be half human and half beast like looking. Some say they beast demon we called massacuremon I hope I spelt it correctly looked like a male demon fiery eyes hairy body long hands and fingers and it comes out only at nights in a particular area of the river that has alleged sometimes stops cargo boats or boats owned by people who residing in the rivers areas who use boats as a way of transportation. it has been more than 30 years since people have ever mentioned seeing any due to the areas been developed to industrial camp site businesses like bauxite, gold and diamond quarry and timber and more residential homes and small businesses have developed the areas so, spirits are being disturbed so, the areas become less haunted. In Guyana we would have taken a bottle of rum or high wine which is stronger than rum 85% proof alcohol it is the raw alcohol before it’s produced into rum and break it on the bridge and pour its contents into the river a form of christening or performing a spiritual ceremony to cut the curse

We also have a spirit call moon gazer it comes out in full moon and it’s tall up in the sky gazing up at the moon that’s why it got the same !it doesn’t move and I heard that if you try to walk in front of it it may grab you ! I never heard anyone one said that the moon gazer spirit has ever touched them and I heard when it walks, it make big long steps or strides cause remember it’s very tall spirit up in the skies so, it’s legs are very long !i had a friend from Congo, Africa who told me about that spirit too I was surprised that they got them there. The are human living amount their families and I heard when returning home in the morning the fire can be seen going to the house to go home where it came from so,, people know that any old woman living there that may looks weird in person may be an old higue but when they leave at night they have to shed their human skin to transform into this flying ball of fiery creature and they cannot let people see when they are transforming that’s why the go in a secret room or place and the can blind you permanently if they see you looking at them when they’re transforming cause you’re not supposed to see them doing it and I heard if villagers know that this person is such a person once the fly off and leave the skin if you rub pepper on it they old higue when she returns to get back into it will be unable. She would fight and try and even speaks to the skin asking, “skin skin you nah kno mi” In other words before she turns into the fire she has to take off the human appearance meaning shed the skin and when returning back to the place where she left her skin she had to get back into to be human and is blows when people find them cause no one wants an old higue living in their village I understand people in the village usually try to set a trap to find an old higue by throwing rice in front of them and once you’re an old higue you cannot cross or pass you have to stop and count and or pick up every grain of rice if you make a mistake you got to start over counting ! Some of them if they don’t want to, they would turn back, if they see the rice on the ground and once they do that you suspect that they’re an old higue. That’s how they identify an old higue when they catch you the entire village folks come out to give you a beating because when people or children are awoken with mysterious redness black and blue patches spots that look abnormal they know that is old higue sucking their families. These old higue have to return home by fore day in the morning ! I heard the suck donkeys too ! I had a friend in Haiti who used to tell me about old higue in their country ! I was wondering if it was Nancy story parents used to tell us but when my friend from Haiti confirmed it I say, maybe it true. We see less of it today, to almost none existence because this generation don’t have time for such nonsense ! People are worshipping god more than iniquity and holding deliverance services to rid evil from amongst us and bring healing upon the sick because I heard this old higue thing is a generation curse that parents and family pass on to daughter, mother grand daughter and their generation on their dying bed. the call the person in the room who they want to hand it over to, hold their hand and transfer it to them. These Drivers are Heroes. And they should be recognized and honored.
The best thing is to find out what form of spirit control that river so they will know what sacrifice to make what if u do a blood sacrifice to a spirit that likes shiny stuff like penny silver fold ect??? Youth man let me address this first, no killing of animals is going to stop this tragedy. The area needs to be secured to prevent these accidents. This has been going on for as long as I can remember, and it will not stop until those security measures are put in place. The government should indeed hire skilled divers and they should be compensated. It's sad they are not recognized in a more tangible way but keep doing your good deed, the unseen eyes will reward you. The place is not haunted, people need to be more careful.
It is haunted believe me I almost died 2 days ago trust me, my car shut off as I turned on the bridge alone going to midnight and was still driving idk how I made it. When it saw car lights coming by, it stopped. The rest is history. After coming off the bridge in a couple mins, it shut off again and was driving fast to the River side, I jumped out the car. Now I have bruises all over. I was bleeding 🩸 too. I have to take a break from work. The car almost ran over me. When it saw the car lights again it slowed down, crashed in a tree and went over the other side to my right.

Honestly, Flat Bridge was build by the slaves in the 1700's. However, many of the slaves died while building the bridge. Therefore, the best solution to adjust the bridge and make it wider. This will prevent the drivers from driving off the bridge because it too narrow.

From what I've heard, vehicles can be going as slow as they should crossing the flat bridge and still ended up going over. How do you explain that? I do believe it could be spiritual, but not mermaid. Evil do exist, but they're only making it worse trying to solve it on their own, or with the help of the same forces that are behind it. Simply put, they need Jesus. They need a repentance and revival service that'll require some serious fasting for days.
