That's what my instructor says and I won't go into his background but he taught me to keep that weapon and your eyes on the threat and utilize that slide "release" for a mag change so much quicker and your not bringing that weapon into your "work space" and taking your eyes off the threat. The difference between a "Tactical reload" and a "reload with retention" is how one manipulates the magazines. With a Tac load both mags are handled simultaneously to reduce the window of the gun being down. The concept would be wrapped around duress, i.e. exigent circumstances-I need to do this right and I need it done now. The concept of reloading with retention is very simple too. It can be done one mag at a time. More of administrative function. All that said. It's fancy definitions for "Keep thr thing working."
The challenge is something unlikely or low probability can carry a very high risk should the unlikely occurrence actually happen. Gordon Graham made this his life work and does a great presentation on the topic.

Thanks, Mick. The reloading numbers remind me of when my former employer stopped training us "weak hand" firing. They claimed officers that were injured still "instinctively" attempted using their injured strong hand, despite the support hand being uninjured. Made no sense to me. Even if chances are slim, you're more liable to use it correctly in a time of need if you have trained.
If you drop the slide lock at the same time as the lock in of the magazine on a GLOCK pistol it makes it increasingly easy for that lever to drop. This was intentional and most people I see even extremely well shooters don’t seem to know this. Mick try showing some people this and getting the concept out there. !!!!Drop the slide and slam the mag at the same time and it almost drops itself!!!
Most semi auto pistols will experience this. The "slamming" as you described is not a feature, it's physics. The energy upwards caused a jump and knocks the slide off the slide lock.
@@CarryTrainer just doesn't make sense to me. I've cracked so many many base plates like that. Also why do it, for video? It only makes for more cleaning to do later versus putting it in your pocket, all it's doing is adding more dirt and grime into your pistol too. I dunno, I like to keep my tools nice because money doesn't come easy, I just don't see the point in unnecessary abuse
@timjohnson8390 do it for video? If you are training slide lock loads, The mag is dropped. Period. Input, what you want to output. As for cracked magazines. In decades of training I can count on one hand how many I've broken. Those that did were a substandard product, or used a ton or both.
Great skill drills as always. I did just add a second G17 backup mag to my G26 EDC. Latest incident in our normally quiet little southern town was 3 thugs with guns in a highly crowded shopping center robbing and attempted kidnapping. All on camera, all on the news...the Target center was next to the interstate and 3 miles from the state line...oh yeah... at 5pm on a Monday too. They weren't caught and no leads other than other police jurisdictions said they have had similar incidents in past year. Maybe it IS the old infantry vet in me... but if i can carry one backup mag, i can carry two just as easily. Not to mention... its getting worse rather than better until we reverse course in this country with stronger laws, tougher prosecutions, and less normalizing of thuggery and socialistic silliness. Also a little revolver as BUG is either on me... mostly because my wife won't carry...but at least i can get it to her if need be...or if i have to have it myself as a last resort. I realize this sounds a little crazy... but it is getting crazy.

What is the point of a tactical reload, i mean worrying about the spent mag or mostly spent mag. Shouldent you just drop it and worry about the full mag
@@CarryTrainer - In the 70's I was part of the NYPD Stakeout Unit and we used S&W model 10's with a snub model 10 as a backup thus the phrase NY Reload was coined

Sure. Different cities claim the technique. I assume it's much older as in the days of single shot and early repeating handguns

Making mag changes a drill is a waste of time. Better to have 5-7 rounds loaded in your mags and change them as you work on more important tasks.
