Lorayne's Impromptu OOTW is one of my favourites. I do that anytime I want to do an OOTW. He has so many "good stuff" in his books.
As you saw in the video, it's one of my favorites as well! You're right about the "good stuff"
Favorite OOTW for me as well! I love the fact that it’s impromptu and the gradation of the phases , the more the routine is going and the more the spectator is doing the things (and the less the magician does), and the final convincer with the remainer of the deck is so killer by itself, without having to drag too much attention on it!
I re-read the magic book now and since it was one of my first magic book, we indeed have the tendancie to check « the latest and greatest » but there are so great tricks to perform out there :)
Magician VS Gambler is one of my favorites. Such a strong story-based effect with the door wide open for a range of kicker endings.
The kicker ending does pack a big punch 👊
My favorite tricks that I've performed include: The Sting, Numero Uno, Really!, Spel(L)Egant, Earthly Powers, Eight to Fourteen and Out of My Control.
All great tricks!
Much like you, I took a hiatus to concentrate on more pressing matters for about 20 years. When I first got into card magic, I was recommended a Harry Lorayne VHS tape. That launched me to another level. Friends have actually screamed and ran away when I performed what I learned from Harry. And they wouldn't let me shuffle on poker nights anymore.😆
Harry wasn't just a great magician and performer. When he talks to you in his instructional, he just sounds like a real sincere guy. And like you said about his books, when I was reading them I would hear his voice in my head and it did feel like he was there. A guy like Harry is an uncommon caliber amongst men. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for sharing part of your story!
Exactly.
Back in 1962, I learned at least half of the tricks in CUCM. Today, I still find myself doing "Out of this Universe" (with a patient audience) and "Magnetic Reversals." My favorites? Maybe not. But they've sure withstood the test of time! Oh, and that book got me started on a lifetime with the Curry Turnover Change!
Great stuff, profrt! Thanks for sharing
My eyes always go to that tower speaker in the background😅 Must be a music guy, maybe vinyl 🤔
Bought a H. Lorayne book from Don a while back on Ken Krenzel classics due to your referencing. Don has great stuff over there!
Brilliant coverage! What a legend Harry was and his legacy will continue on!
I am a vinyl guy, but only recently. I love the idea of physically interacting with my music. Anyway, good eye, and thanks for the comment! ;)
Excellent video. Thank you! Del Ray, Tamariz, Harry Lorayne...
Appreciate it! This are some great magicians to revere. 👍
When I heard of Harry's passing, I splurged hundreds on books from Harry's website. His books and DVDs are treasures. The latest I did was "Thirteen" from Jawdroppers , and yes jaws literally dropped . 😲😀.
I always perform Family Unit, Great Divide , Two Shuffles Harry from the Best Ever series on VHS (now on DVD). Mag vs Gambler is an absolute GEM !!!.
Thank You so much Harry !
I learned so much from his memory books!
I need to read those!!
Earthly power of course!
Originally in Apocalypse? 🤔
I sent Harry an email 20 years ago to thank him for helping me change my life for the better personally and professionally. Not long after I received a reply email from him. I was so excited to read his reply. Such a gentlemen he was. God bless you Harry and your family, you will be sorely missed by many.
That's very cool!
The Harry Lorayne trick I’ve performed the most by far is The Moving Pencil from Close-up Card Magic. It never fails to slay an audience!
Nice! Under-represented, too 👍 Thanks for sharing
My favorite Harry Lorayne effect by far is Lazy Man's Card Trick. I perform it exactly as he taught it in Close Up Card Magic and it elicits gasps every time.
It's a great trick! I have my own adaptation using a memdeck
Harry Lorayne as so much material of awesome magic. I love his Out of this Universe 👍🤟👍😊🙏👏
A lot of love for that version of OOTW
Heh. His books are great. It seemed like he was going to go on for ever. The stories about him holding court among magicians in NY are always interesting.
It would have been cool to visit when he was doing that!
Anything in the Magic Book. There is a lot of great stuff in there.
💯 There really is! It's almost unfair to call it a beginner book
I have 2 of HL's memory books, but I'm not familiar with his magic. That's mainly why I am here now.
That's great - I'm almost envious that you're just beginning your relationship with Harry Lorayne magic books!
What a great topic! I have most of Harry‘s books, and yet I have not dove into them yet. You’ve inspired me to dig into them. Thank you for such a great episode! I just got back from the senior tour, what an amazing convention.
I saw some posts about the senior tour, and it looked great. Glad you're digging into your Harry Lorayne books! 📚
I discovered Harry’s book the memory book when I was in middle school. At that point the book had already been published for over 25 years and I found one of the early editions. It was being discarded from my school library, but I was just so fascinated by the topic, I took it home and read it over the next few weeks. Over the years, those memory tricks have certainly served me well. Honestly, the best trick you’re going to get out of that book is how to memorize a deck of cards pretty quickly. Being able to memorize it forwards and backwards is a huge help if you’re going to be doing memorized stack decks. It still is n a lot of bookstores and you can get the cheap paper back for about six bucks. Of course that book was it with a controversy which seems to be a bit of a reoccurring theme in Henry’s life! He had an amazing co-author that he worked with. Unfortunately, there were some legal challenges over who got the rights to the work and such. But his co-author has also written a lot of really cool memory books. His name is Jerry Lucas, and he is still very much alive.
Thanks for sharing your HL story, Frank. You're absolutely right that's there's a whole other "magical" side of HL that has nothing to do with card tricks. Great stuff!
Harry and Daryl were the first magicians who taught me outstanding magic, and I'll always be thankful they were among us.
Great video! Thanks
What were the first books you acquired by these authors? 🤔
@Erudite Magic Harry's book was Special Effects and Daryl it wasn't a book it was a dvd named encyclopedia of card sleights.
It was good because I didn't know anything back then.
Thanks for sharing!
Jeff, this is a fantastic channel. I always look forward to your next video!
Thanks, frobstube 😃👍
A brilliant magician/ memory man and prolific writer of magic books that are now mainly out of print but I have a few of his books and will be revisiting them.As you say his style of writing made you feel he was there by your side teaching his tricks.
💯 Kalvin!
Thanks for doing these videos 😊👌🔥
It's my pleasure, Marco - thanks for taking time to watch and comment!
I had the opportunity to buy Harry’s last book the essential Harry lorayne and I learned a trick I’ve always wanted to learn from him which is called numero uno. But I learned others like magicians vs gambler and cardshark vs the four gamblers. These tricks are my favorite
Those are great! I remember seeing a video clip of Numero Uno back in the day and being utterly fooled. 🤯
@@EruditeMagic yeah man! Me too, since then I’ve gotten the classic collections vol 2, close up card magic, the magic book and just got deckstarity!
Wow, what a great Harry Lorayne section of your library! 🤩
Excellent review… 🙏🌅
Thanks, David! I hope it pushes you back into your magic library 📚
Hours working on the Paul Curry’s Turnover Change in Close-up Card Magic & Ultra-bind is part of a rope routine I do. Was working to make Voice Print (off L&L’s Greatest Card Magic dvd) a go-to but then discovered Dan Harlan’s version using the method called Win-Win. Harry was great guy. I heard he could be pushy but TBH that’s surival if you are going to have a career like him. Wonderful sentiments in your post for a major figure. May he rest in peace.
Thanks for sharing, George! Harry was definitely quite a guy and one-of-a-kind
Being relatively new to magic, I don't have a ton of books, and the only one I have by Harry Lorayne is The Magic Book, which I haven't read cover to cover yet either. That said, I did like I've Got Your Number, because (trying not to give too much info) it seems more likely to hit than how I've seen the same basic effect presented before, and I think it also expands on what I've seen before.
That's great, James! You've got a great Harry Lorayne resource 👍
Halo aces and Hary take on Paul curry OOTW on close up card magic .
Two great tricks!
Vernon’s Aces is a fantastic way of going into an Ace production routine. Seems utterly impossible.
That's because in some ways...it is! 😄
Pena que não tem dublado 😢
Desculpe
are you gonna review john bannons new book
Yup. Just waiting on my copy to arrive
How long does it take you to read a magic book cause it takes me some time
About a week for a good, detailed review
A beautiful and heartwarming tribute to the most prolific and influential magician of our time. Thank you Jeff for reminding us how fortunate we have been to have had him writing and inspiring us for so long 🥰
Thanks, Bernard - hope you get to dig back into his writings soon!
@@EruditeMagic I am delving into it right now. Reading the Essential Lorayne and watching the DVDS
Excellent! 👏
The contents are a potpourri of hai greatest hits all in one place and the dvd performances are like a tribute to his brilliance. Only weakness is the quality of the paper - much thinner than those produced by Harry himself. But just a minor gripe and I apologize for being a bit petty. 🙇🏽♂️
I understand
One at a time aces from The Magic Book
So many good recommendations here - thanks for sharing 👍
Any chance you can use your pull at vanishinginc to get them to republish What Lies Inside?
It's in discussion!
@@EruditeMagic Thanks so much! I've been checking for used copies on dons magic and books and similar sites for like a year now and never found it.
Let Don know to put you on his list. Often he will email you when he gets one in stock and give you first dibs on it
@@EruditeMagic Thanks. I emailed him.
